Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 110: His Threat
"Mr. Hawthorne... why are you here?"
Seeing Damian Hawthorne again, Sharon Quincy found her feelings were entirely different.
Once she realized Cecilia Nathan was the eldest daughter of the Nathan family, she knew a relationship with Damian Hawthorne was impossible.
No matter how much she liked Damian Hawthorne, she couldn’t be with him.
The Hawthorne family would never allow it, and Linden Nathan would certainly never agree.
After all, Cecilia Nathan had chased Damian Hawthorne to the ends of the earth. If she were the one to marry him in the end, it would be a slap in the face to the entire Nathan family.
Since she had chosen the Nathan family over Damian Hawthorne, she had no intention of turning back.
"I came to see you, Miss Nathan." Damian Hawthorne offered a mocking smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
Dressed in casual clothes, he had a languid posture, yet he exuded a captivating charisma.
"I’m not Miss Nathan." Sharon Quincy looked mortified.
The caregivers in the room had all been hired by Linden Nathan, and she didn’t want to do anything that he might misconstrue.
"Then who is Miss Nathan?"
His words seemed casual, but they made Sharon Quincy’s heart leap. "What are you asking?"
"You’re the fake Selina Nathan, so there must be a real one, right?"
’So he was here to ask about Selina Nathan.’
"Of course. Miss Nathan is perfectly healthy right now." Sharon Quincy smirked. "You’re not thinking of finding the real Selina Nathan to bring up that proposal about marrying into her family, are you?"
’If Damian Hawthorne knew that Selina Nathan was right under his very nose, he’d probably be kicking himself.’
’But on second thought, he likes that girl named Luna. If he knew Cecilia was Selina Nathan, I wonder if he would give up Luna to be with Cecilia.’
"I’m sorry, I don’t know where Selina Nathan is. She’s elusive. Her movements aren’t for someone like me to know."
Damian Hawthorne wanted to find Selina Nathan, and she was determined not to tell him.
Besides, Linden Nathan had already warned her to keep Selina Nathan’s identity a secret no matter what.
’Now that she was Linden Nathan’s goddaughter, she had to keep her promise.’
"Is that so?" Damian Hawthorne’s lips curled. "Sharon Quincy, you might have fooled Linden Nathan about a few things, but you can’t fool me."
"That truck driver... he was an acquaintance of yours, wasn’t he?"
Sharon Quincy went rigid, her hands tightening on the duvet. Her voice trembled. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Don’t be afraid. I have no interest in that." Damian Hawthorne walked to the window and casually lit a cigarette, his expression inscrutable. "I just want to know who Selina Nathan is."
"Don’t lie to me. Or by tomorrow, the proof that you hired someone for the crash will be delivered to Linden Nathan."
Only then did true fear grip Sharon Quincy.
She wouldn’t believe it if anyone else had said it, but the man standing before her was Damian Hawthorne.
Although she wasn’t from Korsyth, she had heard of Damian Hawthorne’s reputation. His methods were swift and ruthless, and some even whispered that he had blood on his hands.
She didn’t dare to cross a man like that.
"Fine. I’ll tell you."
...
「Korsyth Conservatory of Music, Faculty Dormitory」
Cecilia Nathan placed the documents in front of Aria Miller.
"Aria, I won’t have time to help you anymore after this." Cecilia sighed softly.
What she was about to do would likely cause a huge stir in the entertainment world, and any association with that kind of scandal would be bad for the reputation of someone in a public institution like Aria.
She didn’t want to affect Aria’s career.
"Is it because of Miles Sinclair?" Aria pinpointed her concern. "I know. And Serena Hughes, too. This is my fault. I should have investigated beforehand."
’From any angle, what Serena Hughes had done made her look like a homewrecker.’
Although she didn’t interfere in her students’ personal lives, she found Serena Hughes’s behavior despicable.
"I’ve already refunded Serena Hughes’s course fees. As for the assistant teaching position, please reconsider. Many of my students have said they learned a lot from you. You have too much ability to let your talent go to waste."
The more Aria thought about it, the more of a shame it seemed.
She always felt a kinship with talented individuals, especially someone like Cecilia who was both understated and gifted. She didn’t just admire her; she respected her.
Cecilia shook her head. "Aria, what I’m going to do next is very risky. It involves the entertainment industry, and I’m afraid it will affect you."
"Is it about Miles Sinclair?"
Cecilia froze.
"I heard from Hugo Grant." Aria sighed. "You and that Miles Sinclair haven’t seen each other in so many years. Even if he was your first love, meeting again doesn’t guarantee you can go back to the way things were. Cecilia, you have to look forward."
"You could consider Hugo Grant. Whether you look at his family background or his personality, you’d likely be very happy if you married him."
A faint blush crept onto Cecilia’s cheeks.
She knew Aria was giving her sincere advice.
"Oh, right, let’s get some lunch together." Aria glanced at her watch and smiled playfully. "It’s perfect, actually. My aunt wants to meet you and said she’d like to chat."
’Her aunt?’
Cecilia raised a delicate eyebrow.
Half an hour later, Cecilia saw Hugo Grant’s mother at a Western restaurant.
Mrs. Grant was wearing a qipao and was seated by the window.
She gazed at the menu, lost in thought.
’Her son had been single for so many years that she thought he would be alone for the rest of his life. She never expected him to finally meet someone who made his heart stir.’
’Although the girl’s family background was average, she seemed like a good person. Even her niece, the university professor with sky-high standards, liked her a great deal.’
’This time,’ Mrs. Grant thought, ’I must get to know Cecilia Nathan properly.’
’If everything checked out, she planned to set the two of them up and start preparing for their wedding.’
Just then, a cry of "Welcome!" from the entrance made her look up.
At the door, Frances Bennett walked in with a friend, a crossbody bag slung over her shoulder.
"Is this place really that delicious?"
She asked her friend.
She had lost a lot of weight since Cecilia stopped cooking for her occasionally.
She’d even gone through several chefs at home.
None of them were satisfactory.
She was a foodie and extremely picky about what she ate.
"Of course. This place is all the rage online. I had to make a reservation in advance just to get a table."
"Well then, I’ll have to see for myself."
Frances Bennett scanned her surroundings, looking for a good table, when her eyes suddenly lit up.
"Mrs. Grant, you’re here too?"
Mrs. Grant gave a frosty tug at the corner of her lips, which passed for a greeting.
But Frances Bennett, as if they were old friends, bustled over to Mrs. Grant. "All by yourself? Why don’t we share your table?"
"We can’t. I’m waiting for someone." Mrs. Grant couldn’t even be bothered to make small talk.
But Frances Bennett, completely ignoring the other woman’s expression, just grinned. "Oh, that’s perfect! We can all eat together. The more the merrier!"
Right on cue, a voice from the doorway called out, "Aunt!"
Aria Miller walked in with Cecilia Nathan on her arm.
When she saw Cecilia, Frances Bennett’s expression flickered, but she quickly recovered. "Oh, Cecilia! What are you doing here?"
With that, she rushed over to Cecilia and affectionately grabbed her hand. "I can’t believe I’m seeing you here. What a coincidence!"
Cecilia looked at the overly familiar Frances Bennett and gently pulled her hand away.
"Frances, she is my guest." Seeing Frances act this way, Mrs. Grant was exasperated. "I’m sorry, there’s no seat for you here. Please find another table that’s convenient for you."
