Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 155: Miss Nathan from Aethelgard
When Cecilia told her it was her doing, Chloe Sutton finally relaxed.
Because of the Sinclair Family’s move, she and her father hadn’t slept all night, worried that someone was sabotaging their company.
When the company had problems before, they couldn’t find out who was responsible, but the Sinclair Family hadn’t offered any help. There were even rumors that the Sinclairs were behind it.
But now, this move from the Sinclair Family made them both delighted and worried.
Fiona Sinclair personally coming to discuss the partnership was more than enough to prove the Sinclair Family’s sincerity.
But she and her father felt something was off about the whole thing. It wasn’t until Cecilia said it was her doing that Chloe could finally let out a sigh of relief.
She might not trust anyone else, but Cecilia was the one who’d helped her family’s company survive its crisis. She couldn’t possibly distrust her.
"Cecilia, thank you!"
"Chloe, there’s actually something I’ve been hiding from you for a long time. I want to be honest with you now."
Before Cecilia could finish, Chloe readily agreed, completely unconcerned. "Okay, let’s find a place to talk. How about the coffee shop downstairs from you? I’m just passing by there anyway."
Seeing that Chloe didn’t seem upset, Cecilia breathed a small sigh of relief.
She hadn’t hidden anything from Chloe, except for the complete truth about her identity.
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Chloe. She was just afraid her identity would bring Chloe trouble.
After all, her identity came with risks.
「Korsyth City Center」
The Apex Cafe was located on the first floor of a large shopping mall, with luxury brand stores on the second floor.
Cecilia went up to the second floor and walked into the "H" store.
Chloe had always wanted a bag from this brand, but with her company’s poor performance, she couldn’t bring herself to buy it.
But over the years, Chloe had given her many luxury items, never once looking down on her for being an "orphan."
"Hello, miss. Do you have an appointment?" a sales associate politely asked, sizing her up.
Cecilia was dressed in ordinary, unremarkable clothes.
But at this store, buying a bag wasn’t a simple purchase; it required buying a quota of other merchandise as well.
"I special-ordered a bag in exotic leather from your store before." Cecilia took out her phone, found the photo, and showed it to the sales associate. "Judging by the date, it should have arrived by now."
The sales associate glanced at the photo and gave a faint smile. "I’m sorry, but while we did receive one of these bags, only our esteemed VVVIP clients are eligible to purchase it. As for your account..."
"Don’t even bother asking. She’s just here to gawk."
The speaker was Mona Nathan. She happened to be passing by and saw Cecilia here, so she came over to watch the spectacle.
She had thought Cecilia was just there to buy some cups or other small products, but to her surprise, Cecilia had picked one of the most difficult-to-purchase items.
Mona glanced at the photo on the phone again and sneered, "So you really did land a sugar daddy. The Grant Family is willing to buy you a bag like this?"
Cecilia put away her phone and said coolly, "Can’t I buy it myself?"
"Yourself?" Mona covered her mouth and laughed. "Where would you get the money? As far as I know, you’ve spent all these years chasing after Damian Hawthorne. You haven’t had much time to earn money, have you? And even if you could, a bag like this isn’t something a person of your status can afford."
Seeing Mona Nathan, the sales associate looked her up and down and immediately decided this was a high-value client.
"Just give the bag to me." Mona handed over her card, but the sales associate hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to take it.
"What’s wrong?" Mona raised an eyebrow. "You think I can’t afford it?"
"No, it’s because this bag was already reserved by a Miss Nathan..."
"Nathan... as in, from the Nathans of Aethelgard?" Mona asked.
"Yes, yes, from the Nathans of Aethelgard! And you are...?" The sales associate’s eyes lit up.
"Oh, I am from the Nathans of Aethelgard. My name is Mona Nathan. My father must have ordered this bag for me."
Hearing that she was from the Nathans of Aethelgard, the sales associate beamed. "Oh, so you’re the one who ordered it! You are indeed one of our esteemed VVVIPs. Please, give me your card, and I’ll wrap it up for you."
The term "VVVIP" gave Mona a moment’s pause.
Although she was a member at this store, she hadn’t reached VVVIP status yet.
’Did my account get upgraded?’
Mona was puzzled for a moment, but the thought of getting that exotic leather bag soon made her ignore the strange feeling in her gut.
’My father did say he ordered a bag for me recently. It must be this one.’
’Besides, there aren’t many Miss Nathans in the Nathan Family of Aethelgard. Who else could it be but me?’
The sales associate took the card and, seeing Cecilia still standing there, shot her a disdainful look. "Miss, if you’re not buying anything, please step aside. Oh, and by the way, to buy any of our bags, you must first make an allocation purchase. Why don’t you take a look at our other accessories and small items? You might find something you like."
Cecilia didn’t move.
Seeing her just stand there, Mona crossed her arms and smirked. "What are you still standing around for? I know you’re not happy about it, but you can’t even afford the cheapest bag in this store without the required prior purchases. If you want one that badly, you could always check out a second-hand luxury shop. You might find something you like there."
The sales associate didn’t stop Mona from taunting Cecilia. In her line of work, she’d seen it all.
However, after she tried to run the card, her expression suddenly stiffened.
"What’s taking so long?" Mona frowned at the sales associate.
The sales associate swiped the card again, several times, an awkward expression on her face as beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
"Miss... Miss Nathan, your card hasn’t reached the VVVIP level. It seems the bag wasn’t reserved by you." The sales associate tremblingly handed back the card she had swiped several times.
"What did you say?" Mona’s face contorted. She snatched her card back. "My dad ordered a bag for me from your store! Is there something wrong with your system?"
The sales associate had now caught on. "Miss Nathan, perhaps you should double-check. This bag was definitely not reserved by you."
Mona stared at the card in her hand in astonishment, her face alternating between pale and flushed.
Just as she stood there in humiliation, a card was presented to the sales associate.
"Try mine." After Cecilia spoke, the atmosphere became awkward and silent.
Mona sneered, "Oh? I’m not a VVVIP, so you think you are?"
Mona refused to believe that Cecilia could buy a bag that she herself couldn’t.
’Even though Cecilia’s last name is also Nathan, who else in the Nathan Family of Aethelgard could it be but me?’
’Unless... it’s Selina Nathan.’
Selina Nathan hadn’t appeared in public for many years. Even if Selina had reserved it, it couldn’t have been the Cecilia standing before her.
’Wait a minute...’
Mona suddenly thought of something.
’Selina Nathan... Cecilia Nathan...’
’Could it be...’
Mona trembled, her lips quivering as she stared wide-eyed at Cecilia. "You... could you be..."
’No, impossible!’
’How could Cecilia Nathan possibly be Selina Nathan?!’
’I remember this woman shamelessly chasing Damian Hawthorne for so many years. Many people had doxxed her, and her identity was known all over Veridia—she was just an orphan with no parents.’
’Cecilia could never be Selina Nathan...’
Just as Mona was reeling with anxious speculation, the sales associate took Cecilia’s card and prepared to swipe it.
Mona stared at the card, her attention completely fixed on it.
