Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Asking Cecilia Nathan for Backup

"You’ve done so many disgusting things to her. There are no feelings between you two, only hatred. You’re lucky she isn’t making things worse for you."

"And what about you?" Serena angrily flung her hand away. "What makes you capable of taking on the Hawthorne family?"

"Cecilia may not like me, but she won’t go back on her word..."

"Is that so?" Quinn Sutton stared at her, a sarcastic smile playing on her lips. "Cecilia despises you, doesn’t she? What makes you think she’d ever help us?"

"She’s the young lady of the Nathan family. Helping our Sinclair Corporation would be a simple matter for her..." Serena’s voice lost its conviction.

Cecilia was powerful, yes, but Serena had to admit she had no real grounds to be so sure Cecilia would help.

"Do you really think she’d use the Nathan family’s resources to help us?" Quinn tossed a phone in front of her. "Look. I’m the one who pleaded with a high-level contact in the Nathan family, and that’s why they stepped in to stabilize our company. As for this Cecilia you keep talking about, she hasn’t lifted a finger from start to finish." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

"No... Impossible!" Serena picked up the phone and scrolled through it. When she saw the conversation between Quinn and the other party, her legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the sofa.

The screen did indeed show Quinn asking for help.

And the other person had sent back details of how they had helped.

"Serena, you are my own granddaughter, but you are truly... too stupid." Fiona Sinclair sighed, deeply disappointed. "When it comes to intelligence, you really do take after your father. I was right not to approve of your mother marrying your father back then. All of you from the Hughes family are just too stupid."

Serena’s face went white with rage. "Don’t you dare talk about my father like that!" she snarled through gritted teeth.

Ever since moving in with the Sinclairs, Fiona had frequently used Serena’s father as a way to mock her.

At the end of the day, Fiona looked down on her and her father from the bottom of her heart. That’s why she always made it about intelligence.

Looking at this Quinn Sutton, who had appeared out of nowhere, Serena closed her eyes. A mix of anger and jealousy roiled inside her, threatening to overwhelm her.

’She thought everything that belonged to the Sinclair family would one day be hers.’

’She had swallowed her pride and begged Cecilia, humbling herself completely, all for the sake of the Sinclair family.’

’She never expected to be abandoned by Fiona, only to have this Quinn swoop in and steal her credit.’

"Chat history doesn’t prove anything! If someone from the Nathan family stepped in, why couldn’t it have been Cecilia’s people who helped?" Serena looked at Fiona, the grandmother she had respected most, her eyes red. "I thought you, my own grandmother, would be impartial. I never realized you’ve been looking down on me and my father this whole time."

Fiona’s lips trembled, and she looked away, embarrassed.

"If that’s how it is, then I’m going to find Cecilia and get a straight answer." Serena wiped away a tear and ran outside, sobbing. Quinn couldn’t stop her.

"Grand-aunt Fiona, if Serena goes and confronts her like this, she’ll offend the Nathans directly." Quinn looked a little flustered.

’She had only meant to take Serena down a peg and curry favor with Fiona. She never expected Serena to be so stubborn and actually go looking for Cecilia.’

’Miles Sinclair had said he would help the Sinclair family, but he had also reminded her multiple times to keep it a secret.’

’If Serena blows this wide open, Miles will definitely blame me.’

Fiona quickly realized the gravity of the situation.

Now that the Sinclair family’s crisis was over, there was no reason to offend the young lady of the Nathan family.

If Serena went and confronted her like this, it would only make the young lady despise Serena more, and by extension, the entire Sinclair family.

Fiona took a deep breath and said to the butler outside, "Go quickly, have someone stop her! We can’t let her disgrace the Sinclair family any further."

Ever since she took Serena in, the Sinclair family had known no peace.

’It’s one thing that she brings no benefit to the family, but to tarnish our name like this... At this rate, Sinclair Corporation will be ruined at her hands.’

Fiona was filled with regret. She never should have paraded Serena around in public.

’An heir who isn’t raised in wealth will always have a narrow view of the world.’

Fiona let out a long sigh, her face etched with weariness.

"Grand-aunt Fiona, Damian Hawthorne used to like Serena, but she’s offended too many people now. I think you should send her abroad, and soon." Quinn’s eyes glinted as a plan formed in her mind.

Fiona’s expression grew grim. "You’re right. I’ll make the arrangements immediately. She’ll be sent abroad tomorrow."

Quinn breathed an inward sigh of relief.

’As long as Serena is gone, the Sinclair family will be hers for the taking.’

"By the way, Quinn, which high-level contact in the Nathan family did you ask for help?" Even though Fiona knew Linden Nathan, she wouldn’t dare ask for such a favor herself.

She was, after all, decades older than Linden. If she were to lower herself to ask him for help, she would have to offer him something significant in return.

But at her age, she was unwilling to go begging a junior for help.

She never imagined that this granddaughter of hers, who was usually so low-key, could be so capable as to resolve the issue with such ease.

"Grand-aunt Fiona, have you heard of Miles Sinclair?"

Fiona frowned. "That name... sounds a little familiar."

"Isn’t he that young celebrity that girl, Cecilia, is so fond of?"

She had heard rumors about Cecilia spending a fortune on her favorite celebrity.

Especially after discovering Cecilia’s true identity, she had made a point to research her interests.

And so, Fiona knew a little about the name Miles Sinclair.

"That’s right. He controls half of the Nathan family’s assets right now." Quinn’s expression was hard to read, but her tone held a hint of pride. "And one day, the entire Nathan family will be his."

Fiona frowned, unconvinced. "The Nathan family belongs to Selina. There’s no way it would pass to some male celebrity."

Quinn just smiled, saying nothing.

Then Fiona seemed to have a sudden realization. "Don’t tell me... he has another identity?"

"He’s Selina Nathan’s first love, and the man Linden Nathan has chosen to be his future son-in-law."

’The Nathan family’s future son-in-law...’

Fiona studied Quinn, as if seeing her granddaughter for the very first time.

"Quinn, is this true?"

"Absolutely. If you don’t believe me, Grand-aunt Fiona, just wait and see. As long as I’m here, the Nathans will always be there to help our family. The Sinclairs’ best days are yet to come!"

...

Serena hailed a taxi as she ran. After giving the driver the name of Cecilia’s neighborhood, she collapsed, trembling, into the back seat.

Serena covered her mouth, her body wracked with sobs.

’She thought she could transcend her class and inherit the Sinclair fortune, only to have Fiona replace her in the blink of an eye.’

’Hard work, family ties... none of it meant anything in the face of personal gain.’

’She thought her hard work would earn Fiona’s approval, but she never imagined someone like Quinn would just show up and get in her way.’

’Who the hell was this Quinn Sutton, and what right did she have to compete with her?’

’She was Fiona’s direct granddaughter, while Quinn was just a distant cousin. How dare she treat her like this?’

Serena’s face twisted in a mask of fury.

’She hadn’t known Cecilia for long, but she felt she had a decent grasp of her character.’

’Cecilia was the type who would either refuse outright or see it through to the end if she agreed.’

’She had kept Cecilia’s secret, so Cecilia owed it to her to help.’

’If Cecilia hadn’t helped, then there was no reason for her to keep that secret any longer.’

"We’re here," the taxi driver said.

Serena paid the fare with her phone, then got out and strode quickly toward Cecilia’s apartment.

’She knew where Cecilia lived.’

’As long as Cecilia was willing to stand up for her in front of her grandmother, that Quinn woman would be forced to back down.’

Just then, Cecilia happened to be outside, heading upstairs with some things she had just bought.

When Serena saw Cecilia’s familiar figure from behind, she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her.

She rubbed her eyes, then stared wide-eyed and called out uncertainly, "Cecilia!"
