Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 185: Have You Fallen in Love with Him?
Cecilia Nathan and Miles Sinclair got into the car Linden Nathan had arranged.
Cecilia lowered her eyes, her expression listless.
Seeing she was in a bad mood, Miles Sinclair asked gently, "Are you still thinking about Damian Hawthorne?"
"Cecilia, you’re not completely without feelings for Damian, are you?"
Cecilia was silent.
’It would be impossible to say I feel nothing at all.’
’After all, I pursued Damian for so many years.’
’During the time of Miles Sinclair’s supposed "death," Damian Hawthorne was my sole emotional support.’
’Without Damian, the rest of my life wouldn’t have been possible.’
"I know. Damian has actually treated you well all these years." Miles Sinclair turned to look out the window, his lips moving as he spoke in a steady voice. "Although he never publicly acknowledged your status, he was always protecting you behind the scenes. Anything you ever wanted, he would buy it for you."
Cecilia’s heart clenched.
’All these years, whenever she was with Damian, he had always made a habit of protecting her.’
’At least on the surface, he never let anyone bully her.’
’But what he didn’t know was that the one who was truly hurting her... was him.’
"Cecilia, if you don’t want to marry me, I’ll respect your decision. But... I still hope you’ll think it over carefully." After Miles Sinclair spoke, Cecilia was silent for a moment before replying:
"Miles, I really don’t want to get married so soon."
The hand Miles Sinclair had clenched suddenly relaxed.
"Why? Is it because I’m not the man you want to marry?"
"No..." Cecilia took a deep breath and looked at him intently. "I just feel like all of this is happening too fast. So fast it doesn’t feel real."
"Cecilia, don’t you love me anymore?" Miles Sinclair grabbed her hand. "Didn’t you used to say you wouldn’t marry anyone but me? Or has Damian already found his way into your heart? I know you’ve been intimate with him, that you even had a child together, but I don’t care about any of that..."
"Miles!" Cecilia quickly cut him off. "If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t have brought it up."
Miles Sinclair’s breath hitched, and a tremor ran through his eyes.
"I’m tired. I want to get out and walk." Cecilia rubbed the bridge of her nose and said to the driver, "Please pull over."
The car stopped. As Cecilia was getting out, Miles Sinclair grabbed her hand. "Cecilia... have you fallen in love with Damian?"
His tone was filled with panic and accusation.
If he had only been suspicious before, he was now almost certain that Cecilia had fallen for Damian.
Cecilia looked at the hand gripping hers, then her gaze moved to his face. "Miles, do you remember what you told me back when we first talked about marriage?"
"You said marriage should be based on mutual love. That if I didn’t want to get married, we could spend our whole lives together without ever marrying, as long as we were together."
"Have you forgotten all that?"
"No... I haven’t forgotten." Miles Sinclair’s hand slowly let go, and he didn’t seem to know what to do with it. "I’m sorry, Cecilia. I was just being too impatient."
Cecilia shook her head with a smile, her gaze clear. "It’s fine. Don’t worry, I just want some time to myself."
After Cecilia got out of the car, Miles Sinclair didn’t follow her.
"Mr. Sinclair, where... where should we go now?"
Miles Sinclair was about to speak when his phone suddenly rang.
It was a call from Quinn Sutton.
Miles Sinclair narrowed his eyes. After a moment’s thought, he answered the call.
"Miles, I’m sorry. I’ve caused you trouble again..." Quinn Sutton’s first words were a guilty apology.
"What’s wrong?"
"Damian Hawthorne... Damian Hawthorne came to the Sinclair estate. Fiona Sinclair asked me to receive him, but I was worried you’d mind, so I refused. Now they’re downstairs, and I... I don’t want to go down."
"What do you mean, Damian Hawthorne went to the Sinclair estate?" Miles Sinclair immediately sensed something was wrong.
"Miles, Damian Hawthorne is insisting on seeing me. Do you think... he could have discovered something?"
Miles Sinclair said at once, "Impossible!"
"Then why is he so insistent on seeing me? Miles, Cecilia already had her doubts about you, and you proved yourself. Why is Damian Hawthorne still acting like this...?"
"Because he’s Damian Hawthorne!" Miles Sinclair’s voice was as cold as a tomb. "He’s the head of the Hawthorne Family."
Quinn Sutton fell silent.
Miles Sinclair seemed to think of something and sighed. "Don’t worry. Once Cecilia and I are married, both your wishes and mine will come true."
"Mm!" Quinn Sutton said in a low voice. "Don’t worry, I won’t ruin your plan."
Just then, a knock could be heard from Quinn Sutton’s end of the line.
A moment later, the call was disconnected.
Miles Sinclair lowered his phone, suddenly feeling a pair of eyes fixed on him from the side.
Miles Sinclair’s eyelid twitched. He looked out the window, only to find Cecilia Nathan standing nearby, not having gone far at all.
Miles Sinclair’s heart sank.
"Cecilia..."
"Miles Sinclair, so your relationship with Quinn Sutton really isn’t ordinary." Cecilia gave a weary smile. "What exactly are you two plotting?"
The handsome expression on Miles Sinclair’s face suddenly froze.
"Cecilia..."
"Miles Sinclair, you can go explain to my father yourself. We can’t go through with this marriage."
"No... Cecilia, let me explain..." Miles Sinclair immediately got out of the car to grab her, but Cecilia instinctively shook his hand off.
"Cecilia, I told you before, Quinn Sutton is my friend’s wife..."
"A friend’s wife is this close with you?" Cecilia stared at Miles Sinclair, her eyes shimmering with complex emotions. "Miles Sinclair, I feel like I don’t even know you anymore."
"Maybe we’ve both changed over the years."
After Cecilia finished speaking, Miles Sinclair just stood there as his phone continued to ring.
The caller ID showed Quinn Sutton’s name.
Miles Sinclair lowered his gaze and coldly rejected the call from Quinn Sutton.
Cecilia hadn’t walked far when a car suddenly pulled up beside her.
The window rolled down, revealing Hugo Grant’s gentle and refined face.
"Cecilia..."
Cecilia stopped in her tracks. "Hugo Grant?"
"Get in. I’ll give you a ride."
Cecilia glanced back and saw Miles Sinclair trailing her step for step. Without a second thought, she got into Hugo Grant’s car.
Hugo Grant glanced behind them and asked softly, "Had a fight?"
Cecilia pulled at the corners of her lips in a forced smile.
"Do you have time for a cup of tea?" Hugo Grant asked with a smile.
’Hugo Grant didn’t usually seek her out. For him to appear so "coincidentally" meant he had come looking for her on purpose.’
「In a teahouse in Korsyth City Center.」 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
A cup of tea was served. Cecilia took a sip, and her mind began to settle.
’Truth be told, she preferred tea over coffee.’
’Both were refreshing, but the mellow sweetness of tea could calm her spirit.’
"There’s something I’ve been curious about for a long time, but I never had the chance to ask. Now, I think I already know the answer." Hugo Grant sighed. "Cecilia, you’re May Rhodes, aren’t you?"
