Chapter 191: Chapter 191: You Can Date, but You Can’t Marry

’He’s been in a relationship before?’

Cecilia’s mind drifted to the petite and pitiable Quinn Sutton.

If Miles Sinclair was involved with anyone, the most likely person was Quinn Sutton.

But Miles Sinclair had said Quinn Sutton was just with a friend of his.

"Who was he in a relationship with?" Cecilia asked.

"I was never able to find out who specifically. I started following Miles Sinclair right when he debuted, and people in the industry told me he had a girlfriend back then. But it was all just rumors, no solid proof." Mona Nathan narrowed her eyes with a deliberately dramatic flair. "But you know how it is in showbiz—where there’s smoke, there’s fire. The crazier the rumor sounds, the more likely it’s true."

"I think you should hire a private investigator to really look into him. And I’m not saying this out of jealousy or anything, I’m genuinely worried about you." Mona Nathan crossed her arms and heaved a long sigh. "Showbiz is a messy, mixed-up world. I’ve seen too many unbelievable things in this industry. That Miles Sinclair... he’s definitely not as simple as he looks. Fooling around, dating him casually, that’s one thing. But marriage..."

"I’d advise you to be careful."

’Another person telling me to be careful.’

Cecilia remembered how when she was with Miles Sinclair before, all her classmates would say she must have saved the universe in a past life.

But now, everyone was telling her to be careful.

’Is Miles Sinclair really that bad?’

"Honestly, if you’re going to marry Miles Sinclair, I think you’d be better off with Damian Hawthorne. At least there’s no question about his abilities or his looks, right? He couldn’t do much before he went blind, but you started chasing him right after his eyes got better. I think he’s more reliable than Miles Sinclair." Mona Nathan seemed to be genuinely weighing the options for her.

"Do you know Quinn Sutton?" Cecilia asked suddenly.

"Quinn Sutton?" Mona Nathan was completely bewildered. "Who’s that?"

Cecilia was silent for a moment. "Never mind... Anyway, thank you for the warning."

She could tell that Mona Nathan was genuinely trying to warn her.

"Marriage is a big deal. If you get taken for a fool, I, as a member of the Nathan Family, will have to share in the disgrace," Mona Nathan said noncommittally.

Watching Mona Nathan’s retreating back, Cecilia raised an eyebrow.

’Mona isn’t a bad person at heart,’ she thought. ’Perhaps she’s just been put on such a high pedestal that it’s hard for her to shake off that arrogance.’

But this business about Miles Sinclair having a girlfriend... it was certainly suspicious.

Cecilia thought of the warnings from Damian Hawthorne and Hugo Grant.

Then she thought about what Chloe Sutton had mentioned regarding Damian Hawthorne’s corneas.

Back when Miles Sinclair had died, doctors had removed his corneas according to the donor agreement he had signed long before his death.

She later went to great lengths to find out that Miles Sinclair’s corneas had gone to Damian Hawthorne.

And because of that, she had stayed by Damian Hawthorne’s side all this time.

In other words, by staying with Damian Hawthorne, she was watching over Miles Sinclair’s corneas.

But against all odds, Miles Sinclair was alive.

’So whose corneas does Damian Hawthorne have?’

「Korsyth Pedestrian Street. A quiet corner.」

The pedestrian street was in the old district. To preserve the old buildings, the roads and scenery remained just as they had been in the past, without any alterations.

Because of this, there were many old streets in the surrounding area.

Caleb Kramer sat on a stone, a cigarette between his fingers and a card in his other hand, a wide grin blooming on his face.

"One billion? Really?"

It was a black card, obviously something special.

Frances Bennett glanced at the card irritably, her face ashen with anger. "Yes, one billion."

"I went through a lot of trouble to get this from the company. Just take the money and go. Don’t let Damian find out about what’s between us."

"Don’t you worry. I promise I won’t say a thing. After all, the death of Damian Hawthorne’s mother had nothing to do with you. When it comes down to it, you were a good sister." As Caleb Kramer finished, Frances Bennett’s face went completely black.

’Only Damian’s father and the butler knew what happened back then.’

Back then, Damian Hawthorne’s father had married her twin sister. Later, when her sister fell ill, she asked her to stay with the Hawthorne Family.

The Hawthornes and Bennetts were joined by marriage, and her sister, fearing Damian would be mistreated after she was gone, asked her to take her place and care for him.

And not long after her sister passed away, Damian Hawthorne’s father also died.

To protect this secret, they had sent the only other person who knew, the butler, out of the country.

But she never expected that the butler would fail to keep the secret and come back to blackmail her again.

Frances Bennett had acted as Damian Hawthorne’s birth mother for so long, she naturally couldn’t bear to have her identity exposed.

Never mind one billion, even if it were two or three billion, she would have to pay it.

Everyone said she didn’t seem like Damian Hawthorne’s mother. That was because she wasn’t his birth mother to begin with.

She was actually just Damian Hawthorne’s aunt.

She had originally planned to tell Damian Hawthorne the truth when he was older, but as he grew more powerful and independent, she became more and more afraid to reveal the secret.

And to protect what her sister and brother-in-law had built, she would do whatever it took to strengthen the Hawthorne Family’s foundation, even if it meant being called opportunistic and power-hungry.

Watching Caleb Kramer leave, Frances Bennett took out her phone and, sure enough, saw a bright dot moving on the map.

She had placed a tracker on that bank card. No matter where Caleb Kramer went, she could find him.

Not long after Caleb Kramer left, Frances Bennett was unaware that a reporter had secretly photographed their entire conversation.

...

Caleb Kramer took the card and went gleefully to a hotel.

"I’ve done everything according to your arrangements. Can you... can you send me out of the country now?" After Caleb Kramer spoke, the man in the mask smiled. "Of course. You can go now."

Caleb Kramer took the thick wad of cash the man gave him, his eyes shining.

He stuffed the money into his backpack and strode out of the room. However, the moment he stepped outside, he was seized by the police waiting there.

"Freeze! Someone reported you for blackmail and extortion. Please come with us to the police station." Several police officers moved forward and restrained him.

"Blackmail and extortion?" Caleb Kramer panicked. "When have I ever done something like that? You’ve got the wrong person..."

Caleb Kramer was about to turn to the man behind him for help, only to find that he was sitting on the sofa, completely ignoring him.

A chill shot through Caleb Kramer’s heart.

’I’ve been set up.’

"You set me up?!"

’Frances wouldn’t dare call the police. The only one who would have is the man in this room.’

It was clear to Caleb Kramer now. He had been completely ensnared in a trap laid by the man in the room.

And to top it off, he had the one-billion-dollar card on him.

’It’s over. I’m completely finished.’

At that moment, back in the villa, Frances Bennett’s eyelid twitched as she stared at the map.

When she saw where Caleb Kramer had gone, Frances Bennett shot to her feet, her face pale as a sheet.

"Why did he go to the police station?" Frances Bennett thought she must be seeing things.

But the place Caleb Kramer had gone was, indeed, the police station.

The police station...

’What is he doing there?’

Just then, a frantic banging sounded on the door.

"Frances, open the door!" The one frantically pounding on the door was none other than Frances Bennett’s nephew.

"Frances, the contract clearly stated the investment was one billion, so why did you only give me one hundred million? How am I supposed to create anything with just one hundred million?"
