Chapter 100: KARMA

WONYOUNG didn’t get to see what happened next because George and Coach Kwon Taeyoo had blocked his view.

The two men surrounded him as if to protect him.

Plus, An Baekya ran to him and hugged him, acting like a scared child.

Or maybe he’s really afraid?

Wonyoung noticed that An Baekya was pale, and that the child was shaking.

Wait, he doesn’t look like he’s acting!

He immediately bent down and picked up the kid.

An Baekya then wrapped his arms around Wonyoung’s shoulders, burying his face against his neck.

Oh, he’s really scared.

Maybe An Baekya had a trauma related to guns?

It made sense since the child suffered too much violence in his first life.

Well, even without trauma, anyone would be startled by the gunshot.

Wonyoung noticed that Kang Chunja’s gun had a suppressor since it didn’t make as loud a noise as a gun without a silencer would.

However, it was still pretty loud.

Fortunately, not enough to bust our eardrums.

"It’s alright, Baekya," Wonyoung consoled the child while rubbing his back. "It’s over."

Right?

Wonyoung glanced at Yun Dujun from the gap between George and Coach Kwon Taeyoo.

He saw Yun Dujun kicking the gun away while holding both of Kang Chunja’s arms behind her back.

Aigoo.

Wonyoung wanted to feel bad for Kang Chunja because he saw the old woman’s hand bleeding, but he couldn’t muster any form of empathy for his evil mother-in-law.

She almost killed me again!

"Dujun Hyung, I want your mother in prison," Wonyoung said sternly. "I will not entertain any kind of settlement."

Yun Dujun nodded. "Yes, Wonyoung-ah."

"I’m sorry, but we’ll take care of Kang Chunja-nim."

Huh?

Wonyoung turned to the door where the unfamiliar voice had come from.

He saw an old woman— probably in her early or mid-forties— wearing a pretty hanbok, standing by the door.

Oh, she’s not alone.

A dignified-looking (very) old gentleman— probably in his eighties— was standing next to her.

Wait, that old grandpa...

"Grandfather, what are you doing here?"

Wonyoung gasped softly when Yun Dujun confirmed his thoughts.

It was really Yun Dongjin— Yun Dujun’s grandfather.

So, the old woman standing next to the grandpa...

Is she the Yun Clan’s state shaman?

"Yun Dujun, leave your mother to us. She still needs treatment before her punishment," Yun Dongjin said. "We need to talk to you and your husband."

After saying that, the (very) old man turned to Wonyoung.

Okay, I’m not liking this development.

***

"DON’T WORRY, Wonyoung-ah. I’ll stay with An Baekya until you return."

Wonyoung was relieved when Coach Kwon Taeyoo volunteered to keep An Baekya company because An Baekya didn’t want to go home yet.

And I don’t want to bring An Baekya with me since I don’t like the shaman’s vibes.

"Thank you, Coach," Wonyoung said, and then he squatted down to meet An Baekya’s level. "Are you sure you don’t want to go home yet, Baekya?"

"Yes, Appa," An Baekya said while nodding. "I’m still a bit shaken by the gunshot, but I’m fine now. I’ll calm down if I practice acting, so I’d like to stay here until then." The kid then looked up at Coach Kwon Taeyoo and smiled apologetically. "I’m sorry for making you work overtime, Coach."

"It’s alright. Your rich daddies will compensate me well," Coach Kwon Taeyoo said, obviously joking to lighten up the mood. "On a serious note, you’re always welcome to stay longer here, Baekya. I have plenty of things I want to teach you, anyway."

Aww.

Wonyoung was glad that they found the best mentor for An Baekya.

Coach Taeyoo-nim really cares about Baekya, huh?

***

"UNCLE GEORGE will stay with An Baekya, but I already asked Han Myung and an additional group of bodyguards to keep an eye on the child. We’ve already taken care of the police officers who came after they got a report from a concerned citizen who heard the gunshot."

Wonyoung listened to Yun Dujun’s explanation while the Alpha was busy putting the seatbelt on him, even though he could do that on his own. "Hyung, where are we going now?"

"To Grandfather’s house."

"No, I don’t want to go there."

Yun Dujun paused what he was doing and lifted his head. "You don’t want to talk to Grandfather and the shaman anymore?"

"I still want to talk to them, but not at your grandfather’s house. It’s the enemy turf, so I don’t want to go there. If they want to talk, let’s do it at your parents’ house."

"My parents’ house and not our house?"

"They’re not welcome at our house..." Wonyoung trailed off when he realized that he wasn’t a co-owner of Yun Dujun’s house. Legally, at least. "Well, it’s still your house. So, the decision is up to you, Hyung."

"My house is your house, Wonyoung-ah. If you don’t want my grandfather and the shaman there, then we won’t invite them."

Aww.

Of course, Wonyoung’s heart melted after hearing that.

Dujun Hyung and I are really a couple now.

"Hyung, don’t get me wrong. I feel safe with you. But I’d feel safer if your parents are there when we talk to your grandfather and the shaman," Wonyoung explained because he didn’t want Yun Dujun to misunderstand his intention. "Your parents like me. So, I think they’ll protect us from your grandfather and the shaman."

"I understand, Wonyoung-ah. You want to borrow Abeoji and Uncle Hyunjin’s power, right?"

"Exactly. I mean, your parents hate your mother. So, I’m sure they’ll join our side."

"Maybe."

"You’re not confident, Hyung?"

"Well, Abeoji and Uncle Hyunjin never really stand up against Grandfather. That’s how Eomma gets away with a lot of things."

"I think it’s because Appa and Father-in-law didn’t feel the need to do so when you didn’t stand up against your grandfather yourself," Wonyoung said, slightly frustrated now that he could see how strained Yun Dujun’s relationship with his family was in the past. "Appa and Father-in-law were probably just waiting for you to ask for their help. But you didn’t because you didn’t want to be a burden to them. That’s why both of your sides just follow your grandfather’s order, thinking that it was what the other side wanted."

Yun Dujun blinked slowly as if to absorb what Wonyoung had just said, and then the Alpha’s face suddenly beamed as if the realization finally hit him. "That... that actually makes sense, Wonyoung-ah."

Of course.

I’m rarely wrong about these things.

"You must have been such an awkward child, Hyung."

"I am," Yun Dujun admitted while nodding. "But why are you suddenly teasing me, Wonyoung-ah?"

"Hyung, it’s okay. It’s not too late to act like a child at your big age."

"I’m not that old, Bae Wonyoung."

"Well, my age starts at 2 and yours at 3..."

"Yah."

Wonyoung laughed, kissing Yun Dujun on the lips as an apology for teasing him. "Let’s go throw a tantrum at your folks, Hyung."

"I don’t know what you mean by that, but I’m looking forward to your performance, Wonyoung-ah," Yun Dujun said, giving Wonyoung a quick but deep kiss on the lips. "The stage is yours."

***

"APPARENTLY, Madam Kang Chunja-nim’s revolver had a malfunction due to double-charged ammo. Luckily, she only had a shrapnel embedded in her hand. It’s a relief that she didn’t lose a finger. Worse, her hand."

To be honest, Wonyoung wasn’t interested in knowing what happened to his evil mother-in-law. But he thought it would be rude to the (kinda) old gentleman giving the report if he said something, so he just shut his mouth.

He must be my grandfather-in-law’s secretary.

"Madam Kang Chunja-nim has returned to her villa after getting discharged from the hospital."

It seemed like the report was finished, so...

"So, when is my mother-in-law going to jail?"

As soon as Wonyoung asked that, every pair of eyes in the room fell on him.

And now I’m conscious.

Right now, Wonyoung was having coffee with Yun Dujun’s family.

Yes, they were at his in-laws’ house at the moment— in the mansion’s fancy parlor room for important guests, to be precise.

Han Hyunjin and Yun Hyuk were there, of course.

So were Yun Dongjin and the shaman simply called ’Ahra.’

Oh, Grandfather’s secretary, too.

"You don’t have to concern yourself with Kang Chunja," Yun Dongjin said sternly, almost scoffing at Wonyoung’s earlier question. "We’ll take care of her punishment."

Aigoo.

Isn’t Yun Dujun’s grandfather already in his late eighties? He’s healthy and strong for his age. And very mean, too. Maybe it’s true that bad people live longer than the good ones.

"Grandfather, how can I not concern myself with my mother-in-law when I’m the victim here?" Wonyoung said firmly, refusing to back down. He didn’t care even if Yun Dongjin glared at him for talking back. "I want my mother-in-law punished properly for trying to kill me again."

Yun Dongjin looked like he wanted to yell at Wonyoung, so he braced himself for the grandpa’s anger.

Well, he wasn’t too worried anyway.

After all, Yun Dujun held his hand tight while shooting his grandfather with a cold glance.

I just know Dujun Hyung will stand up for me.

However, Shaman Ahra touched Yun Dongjin’s shoulder.

And, just like that, the (very) old man shut his mouth.

Oho?

"Wonyoung-ssi, I understand your grievances," Shaman Ahra said gently while smiling at Wonyoung apologetically. "But please let us handle this case. Madam Kang Chunja-nim is still a precious member of this family."

Bullshit.

Wonyoung almost cursed out loud, but looking straight into Shaman Ahra’s eyes suddenly made him feel a bit dizzy.

Plus, he hated the static that came out of nowhere.

The annoying sound kept bothering his head.

And the worst part?

"Wonyoung-ssi, please let this slide again."

The worst part was that Shaman Ahra’s voice kept ringing in Wonyoung’s head, as if her words had become a mantra forcing its way into his mind.

Then he felt the urge to agree with what the shaman said.

No, why would I?

Wonyoung wanted to complain, but he couldn’t open his mouth.

Not only his mouth, but he felt like he had lost control of his entire body.

What the heck?

"Wonyoung-ssi, you’ll forgive your mother-in-law this time, won’t you?" Shaman Ahra asked, still smiling at Wonyoung. "Madam Kang Chunja-nim got her bad karma anyway—"

"Shut up," Yun Dujun said to the shaman coldly, shocking everyone in the room except for Wonyoung. "Shut your mouth and stop forcing my husband to forgive my mother, Ahjumma."

Wow.

Yun Dujun must have been really pissed because he spoke really rudely to the shaman.

Hyung even called her ’Ahjumma,’ as if the shaman were just a neighborhood auntie and not someone who possesses divine power.

Wonyoung thought it was funny.

For some reason, Yun Dujun’s distraction caused him to relax.

As a result, he snapped out of whatever froze him in the first place.

As expected, I can really rely on my husband.

Wonyoung took in a deep breath and released it after regaining control of his body. "Ahjumma, I’m sorry, but I can’t forgive my mother-in-law..."

He trailed off because of what happened.

Shaman Ahra suddenly coughed up a pretty huge chunk of blood.

Okay, that startled and confused Wonyoung.

Is Shaman Ahjumma sick?

***

APPA’S luck has turned, huh?

An Baekya excused himself and went to the bathroom to hide his silly grin.

While looking at his reflection in the mirror, he thought he had made the right choice.

If Coach Taeyoo-nim and Mr. George can see me right now, they’ll probably think I’m a creepy child.

Anyway, he was just glad that Bae Wonyoung’s luck had finally turned.

That’s exactly why I wanted Appa and Yun Dujun-ssi to be in love with each other.

"Appa, you need that luck to beat that old hag’s divine power," An Baekya whispered to himself. "Please fuck that bitch up for the old you and the older me."
