Chapter 129: OMINOUS FEELING

"YUHYUN-AH!"

"Yunchae Noona!"

Yun Dujun was relieved when he saw Yun Yuhyun’s face light up after seeing his older cousin.

He brought his son to his parents’ house.

My older brother and his family also live here.

"Uncle, can we play in the Playroom?" Yun Yunchae asked Yun Dujun politely. "I’ll show Yuhyun my new dolls."

"Alright," Yun Dujun said, nodding. "Take care of Yuhyun, Yunchae."

"Yes, Uncle."

"Bye, Daddy."

Yun Dujun just nodded and watched the kids run upstairs.

The kids’ nannies followed behind them naturally.

"You’re here?"

Yun Dujun nodded politely at Yun Inyeop’s greeting. "Yes, Hyung-nim. Yunchae brought Yuhyun to the Playroom."

"Let the kids play while we talk," Yun Inyeop said in his usual strict voice. "Follow me. Everyone is already waiting for you inside."

"Yes, Hyung-nim."

As expected, his older brother brought Yun Dujun to the parlor room that their family would use when discussing important stuff.

His father, Uncle Han Hyunjin, and Kang Chaein (his sister-in-law) were already there.

I feel like I’m about to get executed.

"Sit down, Yun Dujun."

"Yes, Abeoji."

And as soon as Yun Dujun sat down...

"Why are you and Bae Wonyoung divorcing?" his father, Chairman Yun Hyuk, asked sternly. "What happened?"

"It was my fault, Abeoji," Yun Dujun admitted right away. "I hurt Bae Wonyoung."

Yun Dujun explained everything.

Hence, his family members didn’t look pleased after his long explanation.

"You didn’t marry Bae Wonyoung out of love, so why did you have to lie to him?" Yun Inyeop asked while shaking his head, obviously disappointed. "You should have asked him for his cooperation since both of you were actors anyway."

Right?

Yun Dujun hadn’t thought of doing that before.

After all, Bae Wonyoung immediately asked for a divorce as soon as he woke up from his coma.

"How’s Wonyoung?" Uncle Han Hyunjin asked worriedly. "Where is he now?"

"He’s back at his old apartment, Uncle," Yun Dujun answered politely. "He’s living with An Baekya and his younger cousin right now."

"Now I know why he’s not picking up our calls," Uncle Han Hyunjin said, sighing while shaking his head. "He must have been hurt a lot. I’ll understand it, even if Wonyoung doesn’t want to talk to any of us anymore."

"Appa, Wonyoung isn’t the kind of person who’ll cut us off from his life that easily," Kang Chaein said, calling her father-in-law ’Appa’ just like how Bae Wonyoung addressed Uncle Han Hyunjin. "Let’s just give him time and space to heal on his own in the meantime."

Uncle Han Hyunjin nodded in agreement with what Kang Chaein had said.

"Yes, Bae Wonyoung will appreciate that," Yun Dujun said, and then he looked at his father. "Abeoji, I intend to ask the shaman later. But can you also tell her to stop bothering Bae Wonyoung? She kept calling my husband."

The shaman would likely listen to his father rather than him.

"Your grandfather summoned me to his residence earlier," his father said. "I have a feeling that the shaman already told your grandfather about your divorce."

Right.

Their next obstacle would be his grandfather.

My grandfather is very superstitious, so he might stop the divorce.

"Abeoji, please don’t let Grandfather stop the divorce. He might get in the way because the shaman believes the fortune of our family relies on Bae Wonyoung now. So, please stop Grandfather if ever he plans to stop the divorce," Yun Dujun begged his father. "I already promised Bae Wonyoung that I’ll take care of everything, and I don’t want him to be disappointed in me."

"I’ll do what I can," his father said, pausing for a moment. "But are you sure you want the divorce to be finalized? I was under the impression that you and Bae Wonyoung were in love."

"I’m planning to pursue Bae Wonyoung, Abeoji," Yun Dujun explained, shocking his family. So, he explained further. "I love Bae Wonyoung, and I want to marry him again."

That seemed to only confuse his family even more.

"Then why are you divorcing?" Yun Inyeop asked in disbelief. "Can’t you just fight now, then kiss and makeup later?"

The other family members didn’t say a thing, but they seemed to agree with Yun Inyeop.

"Bae Wonyoung and I decided to end our marriage because it started wrong," Yun Dujun explained. "I’ll pursue Bae Wonyoung properly this time while begging for his forgiveness. Then, if Bae Wonyoung forgives me later and gives me another chance, I plan to marry him so that this time, we’ll marry out of love."

Yun Inyeop furrowed his brows. "You kids like making things complicated, huh?"

Kang Chaein laughed softly. "I think it’s romantic, though. It’s not that bad to start all over again. I just hope you do Wonyoung right this time, Dujun-ah."

"I will, Noona."

"Then you should beg for Wonyoung’s forgiveness hard," Uncle Han Hyunjin said sternly. "I do get why the two of you wanted a divorce. But, remember, you have two kids. This divorce will affect the children."

"Yes, Uncle, I understand," Yun Dujun said politely. "I’ll take good care of Yuhyun while fixing my relationship with Bae Wonyoung."

***

WHILE Wonyoung was relaxing at home, he got a call from Director Kang Dusik.

It was actually a video call with the director and Writer Shin Yuna.

"We’re going to delay the production of our drama, Wonyoung-ssi."

That was how the director started the meeting.

"I’m going to rewrite the script."

And that was what Writer Shin Yuna added.

Of course, Wonyoung felt a bit disappointed since he was already excited to start working on their drama.

After all, it would be his acting debut.

And I’m the main lead, too.

But Wonyoung couldn’t display his disappointment because it was obvious that Director Kang Dusik and Writer Shin Yuna were the most disappointed among them.

"I understand. But may I know what happened? Is there a new problem?"

He thought the problem with the investors had been resolved already after Spencer Choi decided to invest in the drama production.

But it seemed like another problem had come up.

"We were trying to secure our broadcast slot by pitching our script to different networks for the time slot that we were aiming for. Otherwise, we can’t start filming. But all the networks we’ve talked to showed interest at first, only to turn down us later."

That was the director’s explanation.

And, yes, that would be a big problem.

"Is someone trying to sabotage our drama, Director?"

Someone more powerful than Spencer Choi, who was a chaebol?

But, come to think of it, the three biggest broadcast stations in the country were owned by chaebols.

So, it was possible that another chaebol was messing with them.

The question was ’why.’

"It’s Actor Kim Seojun-ssi’s sponsor."

Writer Shin Yuna answered the ’why’ part.

Kim Seojun was the actor who wanted Wonyoung’s role.

"Since we found a new investor, Actor Kim Seojun-ssi’s sponsor started blackmailing the broadcast networks so they wouldn’t give us a slot. But they offered us a deal recently."

"What deal, Writer Shin?"

"They want me to create a new character for Actor Kim Seojun-ssi, and they want that character to be equally as important as the main character."

Aigoo.

"Will you be alright, Writer Shin? It must suck that they’re telling you what to write when the drama is your brainchild..."

"I’m going to make Actor Kim Seojun-ssi a villain— and I’ll make the entire nation hate his character to the point that he’ll have a hard time being cast on another show after our drama ends."

Ah, Writer Shin Yuna looked so pissed.

"The sponsor said they don’t mind if Actor Kim Seojun-ssi is given a villain role, as long as he gets plenty of screentime. They made their own bed, so I’ll make them lie on it."

This was why you shouldn’t piss off your drama’s head writer.

"Don’t worry, Wonyoung-ssi. I’ll make sure that the quality of our drama won’t drop. In fact, I’ll make this opportunity to make the entire country love your character more than ever."

"As the drama’s director, I promise you that we’ll still make this a hit, Wonyoung-ssi. We won’t waste your talent on a trashy script. So, please wait for us. The sponsor promised us a good broadcast slot, and that’s why we accepted the deal."

Aww.

Wonyoung was touched that both the director and the writer were worrying this much about him. "Thank you, Director Kang and Writer Shin. I trust both of you, so I’ll wait patiently for the revised script. And, while waiting, I won’t accept any acting project that might overlap our new schedule."

Director Kang Dusik and Writer Shin Yuna both looked relieved and grateful of Wonyoung’s promise.

And since the two looked like they would answer any question, he grabbed that chance.

"Director Kang, Writer Shin, may I know who Actor Kim Seojun-ssi’s sponsor is?"

It was Director Kang Dusik who answered Wonyoung’s question.

"We don’t know who exactly it is, but Actor Kim Seojun-ssi’s sponsor is a chaebol from Junsung Group."

Wonyoung felt a shiver down his spine after hearing that.

Junsung Group is the conglomerate that Lee Heeju’s family owns...

***

"I’M SORRY, Appa. But I don’t remember Actor Kim Seojun’s sponsor ever being revealed. I didn’t even know that the sponsor was a chaebol from the Junsung Group until now."

Oh.

Wonyoung was kind of disappointed that An Baekya didn’t know who Kim Seojun’s sponsor was, but he quickly scolded himself.

I shouldn’t rely on An Baekya’s memories too much.

Moreover...

Wonyoung blinked slowly, wondering if he was seeing it right.

An Baekya had been playing with toy cars (that Bae Gayoung got him as a gift) while they were talking.

Since when has An Baekya been interested in toys?

Of course, it was nice seeing An Baekya play with toys like a ’normal’ kid, but it also felt strange.

"Baekya, do you like car toys?"

"No, Appa," An Baekya said in a monotonous voice. Actually, the kid seemed to be spacing out, too. "I don’t like car toys. I’m not a kid."

Riiight.

But...

"Baekya, have you not realized that you’ve been playing with those car toys all this time?"

An Baekya blinked, still obviously out of it. "It’s kind of fun playing with these car toys..." The child suddenly trailed off, and then he gasped. As if horrified to find himself playing with the toys like a kid, he suddenly threw the little cars— causing the poor things to get smashed against the wall. "What am I doing?"

"It’s okay, Baekya," Wonyoung assured the kid, slightly confused as to why An Baekya suddenly threw a tantrum. "It was a bit strange seeing you play with toys, but only because I knew you were older than your current age. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing, though. It’s actually nice to see you playing like a normal child."

"No, it’s not okay. You don’t understand, Appa..."

Huh?

Wonyoung got worried when he saw how spooked An Baekya looked at the moment.

He wanted to ask what was wrong, but he got interrupted when Bae Gayoung arrived.

"Oppa, Baekya, I’m home."

Wonyoung lifted his head to greet Bae Gayoung, but was startled when An Baekya suddenly got up and ran towards his bedroom.

Huh?

Baekya is acting really strange.

***

"DADDY, can I go with Yunchae Noona? We’re going to meet our friends. Today is the day that we’re allowed to eat fast food, right?"

Ah, yes.

Yun Dujun remembered that twice a month, he would let Yun Yuhyun eat at a fast-food restaurant.

He wasn’t a fan of those types of food.

But it wasn’t something that he would deprive his son of.

Yes, it’s unhealthy— and that’s why I only let him eat fast food sometimes.

"You can go, but I don’t think I can pick you up after your playdate with your friends," Yun Dujun said apologetically. "Will that be alright? Daddy is busy today."

After all, he needed to personally inform Spencer Choi of his divorce.

We need to move as discreetly as possible, too.

Aside from that, he also needed to start discussing his schedule with his agency.

The airing time for my new drama has already been confirmed, so we need to start planning the promotions now.

"It’s okay, Daddy," Yun Yuhyun assured him. "Grandma Rosa will be with me."

Yes, that was how it usually was.

But, for some reason, Yun Dujun felt reluctant to let Yun Dujun leave that day.

And I should have listened to my gut feeling.

***

WONYOUNG was planning to ask An Baekya to hang out with him that day when he got that call from Kang Chaein.

It was his sister-in-law.

To be honest, he was still avoiding calls from Yun Dujun’s family.

But something urged him to pick up that call.

"Yes, Noona?"

"Uncle Wonyoung..."

Huh?

It was Yun Yunchae, his son’s older cousin.

And the daughter of my brother-in-law.

"Yunchae, why are you crying?" Wonyoung asked nervously. "What happened? Is Yuhyun with you?"

"Y-Yuhyun is missing, Uncle..."
