Chapter 71: ROAD TO FAME

IT WASN’T just once or twice.

Wonyoung was impressed that An Baekya had received 7 business cards from different entertainment agencies.

The best part?

An Baekya was scouted by the Big 3!

MS Entertainment.

J&C Entertainment.

YB Entertainment.

Those are currently the top 3 idol agencies in the country!

MS Entertainment was the agency behind the top girl group at the moment.

They are known for debuting idols with top visuals, so no wonder they scouted An Baekya.

J&C Entertainment sucked at managing their best girl group, but the main visual of that group was one of the first idols to succeed as an actress.

The scout probably saw An Baekya’s potential to be an actor after debuting as an idol.

YB Entertainment was a surprise, though.

The current #1 boy group came from YB Entertainment. But they’re known for their hip-hop style, so I don’t get how An Baekya caught the scout’s attention. An Baekya looks like the flower type, the very visual that MS Entertainment would go for— but not YB Entertainment, known for caring more about their artists’ talent than physical appearance.

Anyway, Wonyoung was proud of An Baekya.

Having said that...

"I kinda find it creepy that talent scouts for idol agencies would look at a five-year-old child and think to themselves: "yep, that baby is suited to be an idol,"" Wonyoung said while shaking his head. "I know I’m being a hypocrite because I’m supporting your dream to be a child actor. But I can’t help feeling this way."

"Your feelings are valid, Appa," An Baekya said while putting sui mai on his plate. "The idol industry prefers debuting idols at a very young age. And it will only get worse from here. Before I regressed, a female idol from my timeline debuted at only twelve years old."

Holy fuck!

Why would they debut a twelve-year-old kid?!

That was shocking.

Anyway, Wonyoung and An Baekya were able to talk freely like that since their table was far from other customers.

After shopping for new clothes, they had lunch at a dim sum restaurant inside the mall.

But their day was far from over.

An Baekya and I know our style, so shopping for our clothes is easy. But finding the perfect gift for Yun Yuhyun’s graduation is the difficult part.

What could you give a child who already had everything?

Anyway, there’s still time to think about that.

"Baekya, you don’t want to be an idol?" Wonyoung asked curiously, and then he took a bite of his steamed pork soup dumpling before speaking again. "Idol-turned-actors will soon become a common thing in the future."

An Baekya shook his head. "Idol fans are more delusional than actor fans. After all, idols sell parasocial relationships with their fans. Meanwhile, actors sell the characters they play. So, their fans are less delusional than idol fans."

Pfft.

Baekya really talks like a jaded adult.

"I’ll have more freedom as an actor, so that’s the path I’m choosing," An Baekya continued. "And it’s not like I’m passionate about music."

Right.

Let’s just focus on acting.

"You got three business cards from mid and small entertainment companies. But you also got this," Wonyoung said, showing An Baekya the last business card that they got. "It’s from Treasure Management— they’re one of the top acting agencies in the country. They have an impressive actor line-up."

"Their current roster of actors will sue the company later for not paying them correctly."

"Never mind then," Wonyoung said, crumbling the business card from Treasure Management. "That’s probably why they’re named ’Treasure Management’— they love money so much that they’re willing to fuck up the artists bringing income to the company."

"That’s capitalism for you."

Pfft.

Yeah, this kid isn’t really a five-year-old kid.

"You also got a few business cards, Appa," An Baekya said, now moving to a custard bun for his dessert. "Do you have an agency in mind? Or will you continue working as a freelance actor?"

"I’m not sure yet. I’ll think about it later," Wonyoung said, his eyes widening a bit after having a bite of the egg tart. "These egg tarts taste good. Let’s bring home some for Yuhyun and Dujun Sunbae-nim."

***

"YOU’RE going to DIY your graduation gift for Yun Yuhyun?" Wonyoung asked An Baekya worriedly. After shopping at a stationery shop, the two of them were now headed to the hair salon. "You’re not going to pick a fight with him, are you?"

"Of course not, Appa. I’m not a child," An Baekya assured him. "Yun Yuhyun already has all the best things and toys in the world, so I’m just going to give him something that he can’t easily obtain."

"What is it?"

"It’s a secret, Appa. But do you want me to give you a clue?"

"Yes, please."

"Who’s the person that Yun Yuhyun loves most in the world?"

"Dujun Sunbae-nim..."

Wonyoung trailed off, and then he stared at Yun Dujun’s poster plastered on the glass wall of Gentle Ray— a luxury sunglasses brand where Yun Dujun was the ambassador. A brilliant idea then popped up in his mind while looking at the Alpha’s handsome picture.

Wow.

Dujun Sunbae-nim looks good even with weirdly-shaped sunglasses.

Anyways...

"I think I’m going to DIY my graduation gift for Yuhyun as well," Wonyoung said, smiling when he finally realized what he wanted to get for his son. "Let’s go back to the stationery shop before we head to the hair salon, Baekya."

***

"SIR, according to Kang Junil, Bae Wonyoung-nim and Young Master Baekya were approached by several talent scouts while shopping."

Yun Dujun listened intently to Han Myung’s report while in the backseat of the car.

Someone else was driving while Han Myung, seated in the passenger seat, was giving him a long report.

He was headed to the karaoke bar where he would be meeting Bae Wonyoung later.

Kang Junil is the bodyguard that I asked to guard Bae Wonyoung and An Baekya secretly.

After all, Bae Wonyoung didn’t want to walk around with bodyguards.

"Some of the talent scouts that approached them were from big entertainment companies."

Yun Dujun wouldn’t say that he was surprised.

Bae Wonyoung was handsome while An Baekya looked angelic.

They both have the ’face of an actor.’

If Yun Dujun were a talent scout, he would immediately recruit the two as well.

"Kang Junil said Bae Wonyoung-nim didn’t entertain the talent scouts."

"Bae Wonyoung is cautious, so of course, he wouldn’t do that," Yun Dujun said, proud of how Bae Wonyoung handled the situation. "Are they done with their schedule now?"

"Yes, sir," Han Myung answered. "Bae Wonyoung-nim sent Young Master Baekya home first. And, now, Bae Wonyoung-nim is headed to your meeting place."

The meeting place that Yun Dujun chose was a fancy karaoke bar.

Well, it was just a bar with private rooms equipped with karaoke machines.

That’s why we can’t bring Yuhyun and Baekya there.

"I see," Yun Dujun said, nodding. "Have you contacted Elite Services?"

"Yes, sir," Han Myung answered politely. "They said they’ll send the candidate nannies and bodyguards within the week."

Yun Dujun just nodded.

That was the end of Han Myung’s report, so the car was quiet the entire trip.

It’s boring when Bae Wonyoung isn’t here.

Fortunately, they arrived at the karaoke bar shortly.

And, when Yun Dujun got out of the car, a familiar car parked next to theirs.

"Sunbae-nim!"

Oh.

The door to the backseat of the newly parked car burst open, and Bae Wonyoung stepped out of it.

Ah, we arrived at the same time.

Yun Dujun was about to greet his husband, but he froze when he saw his Omega’s new look.

He cut his hair short?

Bae Wonyoung’s hair was bouncing as the Omega ran towards Yun Dujun.

Oh, he didn’t style his hair this time.

To be fair, his Omega’s hair had always been smooth and soft. But it looked extra soft because Bae Wonyoung didn’t put any gel to style his hair. Hence, it was bouncing naturally.

Yun Dujun also noticed that Bae Wonyoung was wearing something differently.

His Omega often wore smart casual clothes whenever they were outside.

But, this time, Bae Wonyoung wore a varsity jacket, jeans, sneakers, and even a backpack.

This Bae Wonyoung reminds me of the Bae Wonyoung I met in college.

"How do I look, Sunbae-nim?" Bae Wonyoung asked while combing his fingers through his hair. "Do I look younger? Can I pass off as a freshman college student?"

"Yes," Yun Dujun answered immediately. "In the first place, you’ve always looked younger than your age. But with your new hairstyle and clothes, you now look exactly like you did when we were in college."

"That’s great," Bae Wonyoung said, smiling. "I want to look around the age of the character I’m auditioning for."

"If it were just visual alone, you’d already bag the role."

"Praise me more, Sunbae-nim."

"You look squishy, Hoobae-nim."

"What does that mean?"

"Can I touch your face?"

"Go ahead."

"This," Yun Dujun said, then he cupped Bae Wonyoung’s small face between his large hands. "You look so squishy. Like a baby. I want to put you in my pocket, Hoobae-nim."

Bae Wonyoung looked confused at first, and then he suddenly burst out laughing. "Sunbae-nim, where did you learn how to talk like that?"

"It was one of the cheesiest lines from my last romance drama."

"Oh, I should watch that."

"Don’t."

"Why not?"

"It has a lot of kissing scenes."

"So what?"

"That’s fine with you?"

"We’re actors, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said, looking at Yun Dujun as if he were slightly annoyed. "Would you not watch my future drama if it has a kissing scene?"

No, I’d hate it.

However, Yun Dujun couldn’t understand why he’d hate seeing Bae Wonyoung film a kissing scene when they were both actors who could separate work from their private lives.

Hence, he just kept his mouth shut.

But I’d really hate to see Bae Wonyoung kissing someone else— even if it’s just for work.

Yun Dujun felt a pang in his heart just imagining it.

But why...?

***

IT WAS a spacious, fancy karaoke room.

And the best part?

The food, of course.

Wonyoung ordered sliders (mini bulgogi, shrimp, and chicken burgers), fries, croquettes, nachos, mozzarella sticks, sweet potato pizza, and beer.

Yes, beer— the expensive kind.

"Hoobae-nim, are you sure we’re here to sing and not to eat?" Yun Dujun asked teasingly. "I thought you were on a diet?"

"Today is my cheat day," Wonyoung said defensively. He wanted to bicker with Yun Dujun, but he remembered that he had a favor to ask from the Alpha. "Sunbae-nim, I need your help with the graduation gift I’m planning to give our Yuhyun."

"Sure. How can I help you?"

Wonyoung scoot closer to Yun Dujun’s side, and then he whispered in the Alpha’s ear, even though only the two of them were in the room. "So, here’s the plan..."

And he shared his plan with the Alpha.

"Hoobae-nim, do you know how much my talent fee is?"

Tsk.

"Give me a discount, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung complained lightly, even though he knew Yun Dujun was only joking. "Don’t be stingy."

"Don’t worry. I won’t ask for too much since you are Yuhyun’s mother," Yun Dujun said, then he pointed at his own cheek. "Just give me a kiss here."

Aigoo.

Now Wonyoung was 100% sure.

This sunbae-nim wants to get in my pants!
