Chapter 242: Chapter 242: Little Game

Leo’s fingers tapped on the armrest as he watched the spectacle without the slightest emotional fluctuation.

The ’good people’ had transformed. Mark, the boy who had once led them with a charming smile, now looked like a cornered animal.

He had managed to wrap his fingers around the hilt of the first dagger, but at a heavy cost. One of his friends was hanging off his back, teeth sunk into Mark’s shoulder, while another hammered fists into his ribs.

With a roar, Mark drove the blade backward. It didn’t find a heart, but it did manage to find a thigh. The scream that followed was hoarse.

Leo couldn’t help but sigh at the sight. "It didn’t even take twenty seconds for the ’bond of brotherhood’ to dissolve into a battleground."

It was a full on brawl, but after getting a hold of the dagger, Mark was in a better position. Even though he was being hammered, one swing of his dagger managed to change the equation.

The group that was on top of him, pushing him down, suddenly retreated, horrified.

Unfortunately, Mark didn’t give them the time. He immediately rolled on the ground and after getting at the safe distance he stood up.

Now that he had a weapon, he didn’t need to rely on anything else. Although there was another person who had managed to get a hold of a dagger, but Mark was confident in himself.

And just like that, the brawl became more bloody.

Before long, the other person who had gained a dagger, managed to kill two people. Unfortunately he was also suppressed and someone managed to snatch the dagger at the cost of heavy injury.

Facing an injured man, Mark was even more confident that he was going to be the ultimate victor.

Leo himself was surprised. Even though he expected these people to fight each other, he didn’t expect them to be so brutal while maintaining a calm expressions.

It became even more clear to him that almost all of these people already had blood on their hands.

This kind of mentality could only be cultivated after spilling blood. He didn’t even want to ask how many people each of them had killed already.

With only two survivors in the hall, Mark immediately rushed towards the injured man who also swung the dagger.

Unfortunately, Mark was faster, and managed to get a throat in while avoiding any serious injury to himself.

"Did I do it?" Mark stood in the hall that was filled with the bodies of his friends.

He looked at Leo and asked, "Master, did I pass your test?"

Unfortunately, just then, he noticed something.

Without waiting for Leo’s answer, he mumbled, "Wait a minute someone is missing."

"Sarah!" His eyes lit up, realising who was missing. He looked all around, and couldn’t find her anywhere.

He realized that she had run out.

"Don’t worry, Master. I will find her, and I will be the last one standing."

Leo raised a brow and asked directly, "Isn’t she your lover? At least that’s what it came across as...?"

"Lover? That’s true, as you said, sentiments are for the weak. As your disciple, how can I let sentiments become my weakness?"

He said grand words like he wanted to follow Leo’s path and wasn’t going to betray his master’s trust in this test.

Meanwhile, deep down, he was laughing. ’Lover? With your wealth and strength, isn’t becoming your disciple more important? After I become your heir, I can easily find women more beautiful than her.’

"Although it will be painful for me, but I will do it!" He said, showing a little pained look to make it come across that he wasn’t cruel. Still, his will was strong.

Leo didn’t say anything. After all, it didn’t matter who survived and who died. In the end, all of them were killers. There was not a single innocent person amongst them.

Moreover, he could already see what the young man was actually thinking. He just didn’t expose him outright.

He simply nodded, "It doesn’t matter to me. The last one standing will become my disciple."

"It will definitely be me!" Mark exclaimed, as he walked out of the hall with long strides.

The entrance to the command center closed after the young man left.

Leo’s chair slowly turned around and he shifted his attention to the two screens that materialized. Each was showing the current whereabouts of the two survivors.

....

Sarah turned a corner, her bare feet barely making much noise against the deck. She expected to find weapons or a storage room, but the ship was like a massive maze.

She didn’t realize that Leo had already locked all the weapons compartment and core areas of the ship. Why would he give these people access to things that they can use to harm him?

Although it was unlikely that they were going to work together, he still didn’t want to add any variables.

Sarah passed massive glass partitions overlooking rows of dormant machinery, and engines the size of apartment buildings.

"Help," she weakly said, knowing no one was listening. "Someone, please..."

"Should I...?" Leo pondered for a moment. Although he couldn’t give her a weapon that was strong enough to be used against him, he could indeed give her something to see which of the two was more vicious.

After a brief period of silence, he tapped the screen.

Meanwhile at another place, Sarah tripped over a raised seam in the floor, sprawling forward. As she scrambled to get up, she saw it... An open maintenance locker, slightly open.

Inside, she didn’t find a gun or a laser. She found a heavy-duty plasma torch meant for hull repairs.

It was heavy, awkward, and required a two-handed grip. But as she heard the distant sound of running footsteps coming from the direction of the bridge, her fingers tightened around the trigger.

She quickly hid behind a coolant pillar

"Smart girl," Leo nodded. "No wonder she could stab me... She at least knows how to hide to take advantage of the other person’s blind spot."
