Immortal In A Death Game-Chapter 163: Adam, No Longer... Safe?
"I... smell strong?"
Again? Adam? You take showers every single day. Maybe you’re starting to rot? When was the last time you checked every corner of your body?
This was the second time someone had mentioned that he smelled strong. First, Sylvie with her strange obsession with his blood, now Mira.
Does... it have something to do with his body?
But alas, Mira offered no further explanation and just turned to look at the passing view.
Well, Adam... aside from the staring and cryptic comments about you, she seems like one of the more normal members of RLRD, so far.
...Is she?
After that, the entire flight was silent. Uncomfortably silent. Harvey fidgeted with his equipment, occasionally glancing nervously at Mira. Beatrice focused on her comms and listened to any updates.
As for Adam, well, he just awkwardly sat there.
It remained like that nearly half an hour later before they approached their destination.
"There," Beatrice pointed ahead.
The small town below was in complete chaos. People ran screaming through the streets, pursued by creatures that looked like cockroaches the size of horses. Their shells gleamed black in the sunlight, and they could hear their mandibles clicking even at height, and the loud rotors.
"Alright, here’s the situation—" Beatrice began.
"Relay it through comms, Ma’am." Adam interrupted, then stepped to the open door and just jumped.
Eight hundred feet of empty air rushed past him as he plummeted toward the town center, landing in an area where all the people were.
"Hm." Mira followed without hesitation, diving from the helicopter as her hands started to shift.
Harvey patted Beatrice on the shoulder and shrugged.
"When in Rome..." He muttered before leaping after them.
Beatrice sighed deeply.
"Is there anyone normal here?" She patted the pilot’s shoulder, gesturing him to land on top of a certain building before also flying out the door. Unlike the others, however, she remained in the air.
She scanned the town more before her voice crackled through everyone’s ears.
[Harvey, there are several monsters on top of the building to your left. Mira, monsters approaching from behind. Adam... take them to the bunker. Go straight, turn on the second left, then go straight two blocks. I see the people there.]
"Copy that." Adam was already carrying a child with him, sprinting and stepping on the giant cockroaches while making sure both his hands were protecting the little girl.
Following Beatrice’s instructions, he weaved through the street. There were monsters diving toward him, the juices coming out of their mandibles showering everywhere.
But with the child in his arms, Adam couldn’t really do anything. Well, except kick a car that was parked on the side of the street.
The car flew, and hit the cockroach in the air—and although it didn’t kill it, it managed to at least pin it down. Adam was about to run, but then something landed beside him that wasn’t quite an ugly cockroach—it was Mira.
Her appearance was... different. Patches of sleek fur covered parts of her body now. Cat-like ears twitched atop her head, and a long tail swished behind her. Her hands had become more rigid, fingers ending in sharp claws.
She only glanced at Adam once before moving toward the cockroach pinned under the car, stepping on it before rushing ahead of him. Her claws, slicing through the cockroaches’ steel-like chitin as if they were paper, pouncing from monster to monster in a blur.
Adam watched in awe as she single-handedly decimated half a dozen of the beasts in seconds. Realizing Mira was making way for him, he hastened his pace until they reached the bunker.
And their work continued on like this from then on. Adam prioritized carrying and lifting people to safety, while Mira cleared the way for him.
And after twenty minutes of endless moving, they’d cleared the immediate area. But it wasn’t until an hour later, when the rest of the IBAA unit arrived, that the people left the bunkers and the relief operations started.
Unlike before, however, Adam didn’t enter the Leak carelessly—these cockroach monsters seemed elusive, and there could be a chance some of them might be hiding somewhere within the houses still.
And so, while Beatrice, Harvey, and Mira were already preparing to enter the crimson Leak that pulsed ominously in the town square. Mira noticed Adam was helping the other IBAA personnel give medical aid to the townspeople.
"Adam!" Harvey called. "Time to go!"
Adam glanced at them, then turned back to the people.
"You’re in safe hands with these people," he said, also glancing at the relief officers and thanking them—and everyone also thanked him.
Mira’s nose twitched when he noticed this, and her ears swiveled toward the crowd. Something about their reaction to Adam seemed to... fascinate her.
And very soon, the four Heroes entered the Leak together, emerging into a vast underground tunnel system that reeked of... well, cockroaches.
But with their combined abilities, the Leak proved almost trivially easy to clear.
Less than an hour later, they reached the boss chamber—a massive cavern where the [Kukarache] waited. The creature was a nightmare fusion of cockroach and centipede, easily thirty feet long, with dozens of segmented legs and pincers that could possibly snap a car in half.
But most importantly, it had wings.
Even then, however, the boss fell quickly to their coordinated assault. It was dead, just like that.
Well, not exactly.
"Leaks aren’t supposed to be cleared this fast," Mira observed as they stood over the monster’s disgusting corpse.
Beatrice and Harvey exchanged glances but said nothing. They both knew she was right.
"You made the job easier," Mira told Adam directly.
"No," Adam shook his head. "It was everyone’s effort."
"You deliberately grabbed the boss’s mandibles," Mira also shook her head. "Held them while it chewed on you, ate pieces of you, but you never let go. Drew its complete attention, which made it just easy pickings for us."
"Adam’s basically a cheat code," Harvey added with a grin. "Infinite health, you know?"
The three Heroes nodded in agreement, making Adam shift uncomfortably.
"It’s... not really because of me." Adam scratched his head. "It was everyone’s—"
And out of nowhere, Mira asked, "Can you give me offspring?"
"...What?"
"We should fuck, Adam," Mira stated without even a hint of shame. "You’re making my body feel things. Sexually."
Well, Adam... you were wrong. No one in RLRD is normal. Not even close. And Adam... what’s in your blood?
"Uhm... No?"
