Chapter 143: [Chapter - 143] - Checking the loot

The first thing Leo felt as he woke up was the weight on his chest.

It was not the oppressive, suffocating weight of a dungeon or the crushing, bone-breaking weight of a monster, but the soft, squishy weight of breast on his chest.

As he opened his eyes, the sunlight filtering through the heavy velvet curtains fell on his eyes.

On the bed to his right was Seraphine, who lay sprawled on her stomach, her face buried in the pillow, with her soft and slender arm wrapped around his neck.

The white sheet was tangled around her waist, leaving her pale, smooth back exposed. Leo saw the faint red marks on her hips, her waist and her shoulders. It was all thanks to him and his intense exploit last night.

And to his left, Belladonna was curled up against his chest, her dark hair spilling across his neck. Leo could heard her soft snores. The beautiful Bandit Queen must have enjoyed being filled to her brim by Leo all night long.

Her hand was resting flat on his stomach possessively even in sleep.

Right now everything around was so peaceful, so quiet. It was the complete opposite of the blood-soaked chaos from yesterday.

Leo took a deep breath, smelling the sandalwood perfume and mush fragrance from Seraphine and Belladonna. This smelled of victory.

He now had a large Bandit... Oops... Mercenary army.

Caelum was broken in the dungeon.

Aliana was... well handled.

And even the town was his.

Ding!

Suddenly Leo’s thoughts were broken by the System notification in his head.

[System Notification]

[Rewards collection pending.]

[Do you want to collect the rewards, master?]

Leo heard Aiva’s voice in his head.

’Not now Aiva, Later,’ Leo was quick to dismiss it, ’I want to enjoy my day with these two beauties.’

And Leo dismissed the system window with a mental flick. He wasn’t going to ruin the morning glory with administrative work. He stretched, feeling his joints pop one by one. His felt the power surge in his body thanks to a massive EXP dump.

He carefully untangled himself from the grasp of limbs wrapped around him. Belladonna grumbled something about "more wine" and grabbed a pillow to replace him. Seraphine didn’t move a muscle, poor girl was too sore to even move.

Leo stood up, completely naked, and walked to the balcony doors.

He caught his reflection in the glass. His muscles were a lot leaner, totally different from what he had back at Earth.

He looked around in the room and walked towards the adjoining dressing room. He found a few clothes that belonged to Caelum.

He picked out a black silk shirt with silver embroidery and a pair of dark trousers that actually fit. Caelum had taste, even if he was a coward. He threw on a heavy leather belt alongside his own boots. He looked like a young noble who was going on a hunt.

But before he could admire himself thoroughly, a knock sounded at the main door.

Before they could disturb the sleep of his two adorable beauties, Leo walked over and opened the door.

And to his surprise, Ryana stood there, flanked by two of her own guards.

She looked her usual breathtakingly beautiful in her crimson dress that hugged her curves in all the right, and dangerous places.

But what caught Leo’s attention other than her beautiful hair was that Darkness and Shadow were not there with her this time.

Ryana as well looked him up and down, her gaze lingering on the open collar of his shirt where a bite mark from Belladonna was clearly visible.

"Rough night, my Lord?" she asked, her voice trying to sound amused, but her eyes flickered.

"Productive," Leo corrected, stepping aside, "You are early."

"Profit doesn’t sleep, Leo," she said, stepping inside. She glanced around, looking at the small wooden wall where the two women were sleeping, "And neither do I when there is a treasury to be counted."

"Is that the only reason you are here?" Leo leaned against the doorframe, crossing his arms, a lazy grin spreading across his face, "To count coins? I thought you might have missed me. Maybe you were jealous I didn’t invite you to the party?"

Ryana rolled her eyes, but a faint flush crept up her neck, "You have a vivid imagination Leo. I will give you that."

"Isn’t it about time you keep addressing me as My Lord?" Leo winked at her.

"You are still nothing but a low level Adventurer," Ryana smirked.

"Come on," Leo said, gesturing for her to follow, "Let’s go see what our Bastard Lord was hiding. Maybe I can find something to buy your affection."

The Treasury of House Dargan was located deep beneath the castle, two levels above the dungeon where Caelum was currently rotting. It was guarded by a massive iron door that required two keys. Leo had both one taken from Caelum’s belt in the tunnel, the other from Malcom.

The Blackfang mercenaries guarding the corridor snapped to attention as he approached. They looked sharper today. They did not look like the unkempt, unhygienic bandits from till yesterday.

"Open it," Leo commanded, giving the keys to the guards.

The heavy tumblers clicked. The door groaned inward, revealing the hoard.

As soon as the doors opened, their eyes were blinded by the bright golden light.

When there eyes finally adjusted to the bright light, they saw shelves lined along the walls, stacked with bars of silver and gold. Chests overflowed with coins from taxes collected from the city over decades. There were racks of weapons, glowing faintly with magical auras, and rows of rare artifacts encased in glass.

There were also some trade agreements and land deeds stacked on a central desk, representing ownership of half the valley.

Ryana walked into the room as she ran her hand along a stack of gold bars.

"For a Lord, he was rich," she whispered, "He was hoarding a lot."

"He was saving for his retirement," Leo said, picking up a heavy golden chalice and inspecting it, "Too bad he retired early."

Ryana turned to him, "You know, there is enough assets here to get you a seat on the Merchant Council."

"It won’t be a on the High Table, but you will be allowed to operate between 2-3 cities."

"We can expand the trade routes. We can undercut the Golden Scales guild until they starve. We can even..."

"We?" Leo interrupted, his voice calm but sharp.

Ryana froze. She looked at him. The excitement faded slightly, replaced by caution. She remembered who she was talking to. The man who had just dismantled a noble house in 24 hours.

Leo walked over to her, stepping into her personal space. He placed the golden chalice on the table next to her hand.

"This isn’t a partnership of equals, Red Merchant," he said softly, looking down at her, "I conquered this city. I bled for it. I broke the gates and I broke the Lord."

He reached out and tucked a stray strand of red hair behind her ear. Her breath hitched, but she didn’t pull away.

"You are a brilliant merchant, maybe..." he continued, his thumb grazing her jawline, "But don’t mistake my generosity for weakness."

"I earned it."

"You manage it."

"I spend it."

Ryana swallowed hard. She looked at the gold, then back at him.

"Understood," she said, her voice steady, "You are the Lord. I am the... manager."

"Manager does not sound tacky enough!"

"How about we call you the Master of Coin," Leo corrected, grinning. "It sounds better. And it comes with perks."

"Perks?" She raised an eyebrow.

"Exclusive rights," he murmured, leaning closer until his lips were inches from hers. "If you do a good job..."

"I will kick the Golden Scales out of Auravale along with the Caravan."

"Everything they own will be yours."

"And every time I kill a lord, you become the Master of Coin, incharge."

"You will have a monopoly. The Silver Route will have the all the routes for itself."

Ryana’s breath caught in her throat. This was her dream. Total control over the kingdom’s trade routes.

"But what do you want in return?" she whispered, her gaze dropping to his lips.

"Loyalty," Leo said, "And maybe a private negotiation later. To discuss... other assets." He let his eyes drift down to her cleavage, making his intentions blatantly clear.

"I hear the Red Merchant has a very high appraisal value," Leo’s face was just inches away from her. Ryana could feel his breath on her face. But she did not pull away.

"Good," Leo stepped back, breaking the tension before it consumed them, "Now, first order of business."

He grabbed a handful of gold coins and tossed them towards the bandit guards standing still dazzled by the wealth in front of them.

"Pay the men," he ordered, "30 gold coins for every Blackfang mercenary who fought last night. Let them have fun."

"And the Booze and Meat is on the Lord’s castle. Drink to your heart’s content."

"I want them to know that working for me pays better than robbing caravans."

Ryana frowned, her merchant instincts recoiling at the expense, "Thirty gold coins? Leo, that’s reckless. You won’t have anything left for..."

"Gold is useless if the men holding the swords turn on you. Caelum learned that the hard way. I won’t make the same mistake." Leo cut her off. He gestured at the guards.

"Distribute it."

"And don’t forget to tell them it’s from Lord Leo." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

He turned back to the shelves, picking up a strange, glowing blue stone.

"Now," he said, tossing the stone in the air and catching it, "Let’s see what else Caelum was hiding from the world."
