In Another World, Everyone Want to Kill Me!-Chapter 278: Reversed Flow
It was as though he had been sitting there and then suddenly vanished halfway through.
Unease finally pushed her to open the door and step inside.
Through the red gauze, she could see Yue Mingxuan sitting cross-legged on the bed.
The beginning of martial cultivation was always the hardest.
There was a sense of groping blindly for a key point and once begun, it was nearly impossible to stop midway.
One could only wait until the internal energy was exhausted, then awaken utterly drained or else fall into a deathlike slumber.
Yin Su did not know whether Yue Mingxuan would end the same way.
But he did not move at all.
He sat there as still as if he had fallen asleep.
Yin Su quietly pulled over a chair and sat near the doorway, she propping her head against her hand as she watched.
The breeze from the window stirred the thin red gauze.
From this angle, she could almost see the beads of sweat gathered on Yue Mingxuan’s forehead.
He truly looked as though he were in agony; his brows were drawn together tightly.
In truth, Yin Su did not understand why he insisted on cultivating this martial art.
None of them had ever heard of it.
She had even made inquiries on her own.
The technique was called Ninefold Celestial Mystery.
It was an extremely secretive martial art.
Up to now, only one person had ever mastered it, the one who had written it down. Yet no one knew who that person was. Word of mouth claimed it had been a woman with alluring in figure and extraordinarily beautiful.
After that, it seemed either to have been lost or deliberately hidden away.
No one had ever seen another person practice it.
It was said that those who tried either died or went mad.
Yin Su suspected they had all suffered deviation.
How this manual had ended up in the hands of an imperial consort baffled her.
It appeared that the woman had indeed practiced it and gone mad from it, which make her dying in the process. And by some strange coincidence, Yue Mingxuan had discovered it.
Was all of this truly accidental?
No matter how she thought about it, Yin Su could not make sense of it.
The crucial point was that after opening the box, Yue Mingxuan had insisted on learning this martial art.
No persuasion worked.
He had even cautiously gathered her, Shang Qinghua and the others to stand guard for him.
That was nothing like his usual way of doing things.
Her own identity had always been kept carefully hidden.
Yue Mingxuan had wanted her to remain concealed as well.
This was the first time he had asked her to guard him so openly.
Just then, a soft murmur reached her ears.
In the suffocating silence, that faint sound was unmistakable.
Yin Su who is being closest sprang to her feet at once.
It was Yue Mingxuan’s voice, he must have woke up.
She crossed the distance in a few quick steps, lifting the red gauze and hurrying inside.
Shang Qinghua and Gongsun Xing had been seated a little farther away. Though slower than Yin Su, they followed immediately behind her.
Yin Su sat at the bedside and supported Yue Mingxuan.
His eyes were still closed, but his breathing was now clearly audible, it was steady and distinct.
As she wrapped an arm around his shoulders, she felt his body temperature plummeting.
It was so cold it was almost unbearable.
Her brows knit together as she looked up.
"Miracle Doctor Gongsun, please check his pulse."
Without a word, Gongsun Xing pushed back Yue Mingxuan’s sleeve.
The moment his fingers touched the skin, he felt the unnatural chill.
His expression darkened as he closed his eyes and took the pulse.
"The pulse is steady. Only... this drop in temperature is highly unusual."
There was nothing wrong with the pulse at all.
In fact, Gongsun Xing could even detect what Yue Mingxuan had eaten that evening.
Confident in his medical skill, he was certain there was no internal disorder.
But why, then, was his body so cold?
"Deviation... that’s impossible. This is only the first level. No one falls into deviation at the first level," Yin Su muttered under her breath.
Shang Qinghua who had remained silent until now flicked open his folding fan and began to wave it slowly.
"It’s nothing serious," he said calmly. "You may all return and rest. This is simply the result of the reversed internal energy flow. It’s not a major issue. By midnight, his body will gradually warm again. Go get some sleep."
Though still doubtful, once Shang Qinghua had spoken, Gongsun Xing could only suppress his unease and take his leave.
When the door closed, only the two of them remained inside.
Sui He was still waiting outside by the entrance, uncertain when the prince might call for her and thus she did not dare step away.
Just then, Shang Qinghua’s voice drifted out from within the room.
"Sui He, you should go and rest as well. I’m here. If anything happens, I’ll call for you."
Sui He blinked. "Yes." With that, she turned around and left.
Yin Su stayed in the side chamber not far away.
After stepping out, she turned directly into her own room.
Hearing Sui He’s light footsteps pass by her door, she stood there for a moment, drew in a deep breath, and then prepared to sleep.
The first day had passed just like that.
Rarely did anyone encounter trouble on the very first day of practicing a martial art unless the manual itself was fake.
But with such elaborate arrangements surrounding it, it was unlikely to be false.
So what, in the end, was the truth?
...
After everyone had left, Shang Qinghua let out a quiet sigh.
He adjusted Yue Mingxuan’s posture properly and tucked the blanket around him.
Then he climbed onto the bed as well.
After stripping down their clothes until only their inner garments, he slipped beneath the covers and drew Yue Mingxuan tightly into his arms.
He then using his own body heat to draw out the cold from Yue Mingxuan’s body.
