Chapter 280: Restless Energy

Practicing martial arts seemed to have drained only Yue Mingxuan’s physical strength; his vitality and spirit were in excellent condition.

Yin Su glanced at Shang Qinghua, clearly hoping he would say something.

"Stop eating for now," Shang Qinghua said at last. "I’ll have someone from my residence send over some hawthorn cake later."

The hawthorn cakes made by the cooks at his estate had recently become Yue Mingxuan’s favorite.

It was sweet and sour, pleasantly tart, delicate in texture and they whetted the appetite perfectly.

He insisted on having a plate every day and never seemed to tire of them.

He nodded decisively at once.

Not long after that, Gongsun Xing was summoned.

Yin Su and Shang Qinghua both felt that Yue Mingxuan’s sudden surge in appetite was not necessarily a good sign, so they called him over to consult.

The moment Gongsun Xing entered, he reached out to take Yue Mingxuan’s pulse.

After a while, he shook his head.

"There’s no major problem. Just a slight sense of indigestion. Did you eat a lot this morning? I thought mornings were when your appetite was worst, you never liked to eat much then," Gongsun Xing asked in puzzlement.

Yue Mingxuan shook his head as well and absently playing with the purple jade bracelet on his wrist.

"I don’t know either. I just felt especially hungry today. Maybe practicing last night consumed too much of my strength. I drank three bowls and still didn’t feel full. If Yin Su and Shang Qinghua hadn’t stopped me, I think I could’ve eaten five!"

As he spread his hand while speaking, the purple jade bracelet slipped from his wrist and slid off the edge of the table.

Fortunately, Shang Qinghua reacted quickly and caught it.

He took Yue Mingxuan’s hand and carefully slid the bracelet back onto his wrist.

"You absorbed all the cold energy from his body last night?" Yin Su leaned closer and whispered into Shang Qinghua’s ear.

She had a feeling he had deliberately sent both her and Gongsun Xing away before acting, and had no intention of mentioning it.

It’s likely because he did not want either of them to know.

Perhaps he did not want Yue Mingxuan to know either.

Shang Qinghua shot her a sidelong glance.

This young woman was indeed perceptive.

She understood that the cold energy inside Yue Mingxuan required an external force to draw it out.

If Shang Qinghua had not taken action last night, Yin Su herself might have done it.

After a brief pause, he nodded.

"Good. That saves me the trouble," Yin Su said lightly. "You’ll probably need to absorb the cold energy every night for a while. During the day, avoid anything excessively cold, food included. Drink more warm water."

With that, she turned around and left, her white robes fluttering behind her.

Shang Qinghua watched her go, thinking that the girl was truly an enigma.

She seemed to know far too much, yet she looked so young, so untouched by the world.

One felt almost irreverent staring at her too long.

There was something almost sacred about her presence.

Just who, exactly, was she?

The entire day, Yue Mingxuan remained unusually exhilarated.

His energy seemed inexhaustible.

When he ran into Rong Zishen in the imperial garden, he even greeted him with a bright smile.

People who would normally give him a headache no longer appeared bothersome.

He simply could not sit still.

Sui He followed him everywhere, hurrying from one place to another.

Only at midday, during lunch in the imperial garden, did he remain in one place together with Rong Qinglei.

That lasted barely half an hour.

Rong Qinglei also found it strange.

Yue Mingxuan’s smiles in the past had always carried a trace of strain, but today they were different.

There was an effortless charm to them now.

A single smile, a single glance, even the slight curve of his lips, everything seemed unlike before.

Rong Qinglei did not know the reason and assumed only that Yue Mingxuan was in an especially good mood.

He had to visit the bank that afternoon, so he left after lunch.

Shang Qinghua who had returned to his chambers earlier to catch up on sleep, came over once he felt somewhat restored.

From a distance, he saw Yue Mingxuan flitting about the imperial garden like a restless butterfly, unable to remain seated for more than a few seconds.

Sui He would call for him to drink some tea; he would sit briefly, then spring up again.

It seemed the entire garden was not large enough to contain him.

Shang Qinghua began to sense that something was wrong.

"Go. Fetch Gongsun Xing."

Gongsun Xing truly felt like the busiest man alive.

From morning till night he was being summoned everywhere, never able to settle down.

When Mo Yi arrived, Gongsun Xing had just managed to find a rare moment to "cultivate their relationship" with Wang Jian. Then someone suddenly crashed through the window.

Mo Yi stood calmly in the center of the hall with his back to the bed, informing them in an even tone that his prince required the Miracle Doctor Gongsun at once.

Gongsun Xing nearly wanted to bite both Mo Yi and Shang Qinghua to death.

But after hearing Mo Yi’s explanation, he realized the matter might not be so simple.

He decisively dressed and headed out.

"Next time, could you not choose your timing so perfectly?"

He shot Shang Qinghua a glance, clearly dissatisfied.

When he had come out earlier, Wang Jian had still been in a temper, shouting that he needn’t return tonight.

He could only offer a wry smile, there was truly nothing he could do.

Shang Qinghua lifted his chin slightly, gesturing toward Yue Mingxuan not far away.

Yue Mingxuan was still weaving left and right among the clusters of flowers in the imperial garden.

Shang Qinghua had been watching him for quite some time already.

"He’s been like this all day?" Gongsun Xing was genuinely surprised.
