Infinite Adaptation: Starting As A Level 1 Slime-Chapter 12: Storage
Luna padded into the chamber, a massive creature dangling from her jaws. She had grown significantly over the past weeks - now being larger than any ordinary wolf.
"You’re back early today," the slime spoke, still splattered across the barrier’s surface.
"Mama, I’m back!" Luna’s voice echoed through the cavern as she dropped her prey.
"I told you to stop calling me that."
"Okay, Mama."
"Are you even listening?"
"Yes, Mama."
His form sagged against the barrier.
If anything, he would be papa, not mama.
No. Why was he even entertaining this?
He sighed again.
It had been about two weeks since he started analyzing the barrier. During that time, Luna had developed enough to learn properly, so he taught her Mana Manipulation. She was a genius, picking it up with ease. He had taught her this as a means of self-defense so she could hunt alone without his guidance.
Otherwise, she might starve to death waiting for him.
After teaching her Mana Manipulation, he figured - why not teach her Mana Sense while he was at it? And speech through mana vibration as well. She could already understand what he said, so speaking shouldn’t be difficult for her.
He figured her vocal cords were simply bottlenecking her potential.
After some instructions - and having to endure several days of ear-splitting screeches - she could finally speak.
He had to admit, she was quite talented. It had taken her almost the same amount of time it took him. And that was with Infinite Adaptation on his side. It seemed being the Eternal Moon’s heir was not just for show.
At that moment, he felt something shift in the barrier.
His form tensed with excitement.
It’s happening.
A few days ago, he had actually managed to unlock another thread. Thread E.
Unlocking it had been surprising - he had thought the previous four were the limit. But seeing as he could still unlock more, he figured he had surpassed that limit somehow. It was probably a result of Infinite Adaptation. By spending so much processing power constantly, he had adapted and broken through to a new threshold.
And that wasn’t all. Thought Acceleration had also improved, now operating at 200 times speed rather than the previous 100.
With this new boost in processing power, he had concentrated all his energy into cracking the barrier. And now he was finally noticing a change.
He poured everything he had into that tiny section of the barrier.
That’s right - all this time, he had been focusing his power on just a small part. He understood that he couldn’t break it whole no matter what he tried. But if he could decode a single fragment, he would surely be able to reverse engineer the rest.
At that moment, he heard something crack softly beneath him.
Finally.
He instantly absorbed the speck and got to work analyzing it. Thanks to his insane processing power and the tiny size of the fragment, he was able to fully analyze it in just a few seconds.
It was some sort of spatial magic.
No wonder it had been so hard to break.
...
A week later.
He sat before the barrier in his slime form.
A small hole had formed on the barrier.
He looked at it.
This isn’t going to work.
It was taking far too long. Even after he had analyzed that first speck, using that knowledge to decode the rest of the barrier - while now thousands of times easier - it was still extremely slow for his liking.
He looked at the hole again. With his flexible body as a slime, he should be able to push through. It’s just...
"Mama, I’m back!"
Luna bounded into the chamber, immediately nuzzling against his gelatinous form. She had grown even larger in just these few days. There was no way she could fit through that tiny opening.
And he didn’t want to just leave her.
Not only because they had kinda gotten attached to each other, but also because he believed her mother had entrusted Luna to him. That must be why she had blessed him. It was best not to disappoint something with the name "Eternal Moon."
He let out a sigh.
At that moment...
[ Congratulations ]
Unique Skill Acquired: Spatial Dominion
You have gained mastery over space.
Hehe. Finally.
As he continued deciphering the barrier, he had also been analyzing and experimenting with the particles he collected. He used them to see if he could reverse engineer some sort of space magic that could help him break the barrier even faster.
He looked at the new skill he had acquired.
Hmm... it not quite what I expected...
Wait.
This might actually work. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Luna, we’re finally getting out of here."
"Out?" she tilted her head.
"That’s right. We’re going outside," he said, jumping with joy.
She didn’t seem to share his enthusiasm though. Her expression was simply confused.
He cleared his throat.
Ahem.
"Well, you’ll understand how great this is when you finally get outside."
He was about to begin when he remembered something.
He paused.
Maybe...
...
They stood before a cavern entrance.
Luna’s body was tense, a low growl rumbling from her chest.
"Calm down," he said gently. "Stay here. I’m going in."
He jumped from her back and hopped through the entrance.
The miasma from that day had yet to settle.
He needed to do this quickly as unlike Luna, he didn’t have any resistance to the corruption.
And there she was.
Luna’s mother.
Her body just as pristine as it had been back then - except for the dark miasma seeping from her wound.
And she was still letting out that immense amount of mana.
Looking at her reminded him of just how massive she truly was. Even Luna, who was now much larger than a normal wolf, paled in comparison.
The miasma was getting to him. He needed to get this over with quickly.
His body expanded suddenly, spreading wide. He stretched himself thin, enveloping her entire form before consuming it completely.
He landed on the ground, still his previous size.
It really worked...
This was one of the abilities he had gotten from Spatial Dominion.
Spatial Dominion had two sub-skills.
The first was named Storage. It allowed him to store things in an alternate dimension, its size proportional to the amount of mana he possessed. Which, at this point, was no small amount.
And he was about to gain even more by absorbing the residual mana of the Eternal Moon.
She wouldn’t mind, right? Think of it as payment for taking care of her daughter.
But there was a problem with this plan. Her mana had merged with the dark energy, becoming corrupted. That definitely wouldn’t be good for him.
And that’s where the second ability came in.
It was named Isolation. It allowed him to isolate substances into a separate alternate dimension. Similar to Storage, but different in function. If Storage was a huge mansion, Isolation would be a secret sealed room.
This would allow him to experiment with more harmful substances without interfering with his main reserves.
"Mama, you’re back!" Luna called as she saw him return.
"Yeah. I’m back."
He jumped onto her back.
"Now...time to be free."
Luna moved rapidly through the cave.
