Infinite Adaptation: Starting As A Level 1 Slime-Chapter 23: No Transformation For You
Well, there would be - but in a different way.
He was thinking of establishing a merit-based system where they would work and earn income through which they could rent a house. Although this seemed a little unfair, it actually balanced out. The houses they were building now were more like refugee camps.
While they were better than what the villagers initially had, they still couldn’t compare to what he was planning to build for rent later.
Though he was thinking a little too far ahead at the moment. He hadn’t even established currency yet.
His mind returned to the current task at hand.
At the moment, they could build ten houses with the resources they had. Well, eight now, since they were building a church first.
This should be enough for the kids to sleep in tonight. We can work on the rest tomorrow.
He bounced toward the pile of wood and landed on it.
Then he instantly swallowed it all.
This place was quite rundown. They didn’t have even the most basic tools - no hammers, no reliable way of cutting wood. That would make things quite hard to manage.
That was why he decided to handle that part himself.
He concentrated on his storage, then focused his mana. He imagined compressing his mana into a long line, then compressing it further to form a sharp edge.
[ Congratulations ]
Basic Skill Acquired: Mana Slash
You have learned to condense mana into a cutting edge.
Success.
With Mana Slash, he easily cut through the wood. Since he had made the design plans himself, he knew all the measurements and made quick work of it.
There was also the issue of connecting the wood, as there were no nails. For this, they would use traditional Japanese wood joinery. By cutting the wood in a certain way, the pieces would easily connect, and the force exerted on the building would push the whole structure together.
Thanks to his concurrency and Thought Acceleration, he easily made the necessary calculations and completed all the cuts.
After that, he spat out all the prepared wood.
The crowd stared in amazement and began singing his praises.
"Silence," he cut them off. "Get to work."
He looked over the gathered villagers and picked a group of ten who looked the most competent.
"The rest of you, watch closely."
Then he began giving instructions to the group on how to place the wood and how to connect the whole thing together.
...
An hour later, they finally completed the church.
Lunaris turned to Roselle.
"You were paying attention to all my instructions, right?"
"I listen to everything you say, my Lord."
Hmph. Except when it doesn’t suit your beliefs.
He scoffed internally.
"Good," he said aloud. "I’ll leave you to instruct them on building the rest of the houses. If they work concurrently - groups of five for the remaining eight houses, with the ten who worked on the church helping you give instructions to the others - then they should be done in another hour or so."
He paused.
"After they’re done, assign the children to the houses so they don’t have to sleep in those huts tonight."
Roselle bowed deeply. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"As you command, my Lord."
Lunaris bounced away.
"Luna, follow me."
She obeyed without hesitation, falling into step behind him.
...
Lunaris and Luna sat on a cliff under the moon.
This was the place Luna had first transformed. The moon was noticeably smaller and dimmer now - it seemed the belief about the Night of the Brightest Moon wasn’t a joke at all.
"Luna," Lunaris began. "I’ve been worried about your inability to transform. I want to look into it for you."
She tilted her head, listening.
"Unfortunately, my ability to analyze the situation is limited in the real world. So I’ll need to put you into my storage." He paused. "Don’t worry though. I’ll be extremely careful to ensure nothing happens to you."
Luna smiled softly.
"It’s okay. Luna trusts her dad."
"Good."
He enclosed her in a magic barrier before absorbing her into his storage.
Then he began scanning her body, analyzing it to see if there were any issues.
The first thing he realized was that she was actually in top condition. Her human form was just as strong as her monster form had been.
It seems I was worrying for nothing.
He continued coordinating with her on the inside to assist with his analysis.
...
After about an hour, he had yet to figure out the solution.
He returned to the village, where they had already finished building the houses and were now having a feast. He took a portion of food for Luna and put it into storage for her.
Then he returned to the cliff.
As for why he didn’t stay in the church they’d just built for him - well, the priestess lived there too. And he wanted nothing to do with her at the moment.
As he continued his analysis, he realized something. Even while in storage, while it allowed him to analyze things more thoroughly than with Appraisal alone, it was ultimately slower than absorbing something completely into himself.
The storage added a little bit of latency.
He could work with that though.
He continued his analysis with Luna’s help until the sun rose.
...
The morning light spilled across the cliff as he removed Luna from his storage.
She materialized beside him, blinking at the brightness.
"Did you figure it out?" she asked.
"Unfortunately, no."
He had assumed that Luna was just like him before - unlocking the transformation skill but not having the correct address to the skill mapping to access it. So he had performed a complete analysis of her.
But even after that, he was unable to find anything about the transformation.
From his analysis, he concluded that after she received energy from the moon, she was forced into a transformation. And because she was too young, she hadn’t yet developed a transformation method of her own.
He guessed she might develop the transformation ability as she grew older. But he was a little unsure - since she was human now, there would be no need for transformation, which might hinder her from gaining the ability naturally.
Still, it didn’t mean all hope was lost.
He had something in mind that just might work.
"Don’t worry," he told her. "I’m going to work on a solution for you."
Luna’s face lit up. She scooped him up and hugged him tightly against her chest.
"Dad is the best!"
"We should return," he said, slightly exasperated. "The others might get worried."
