Infinite Dragon Beast: Taming Ice Dragons with SSS Ranked Talent-Chapter 134: Mage Commander Hendrik
To reach the border of Yixia, they needed to venture slightly away from the Pompo Administrative Region. However, they faced a new challenge.
Only those with an envoy group token could enter the Yixia border, while Aiden’s team had arrived with Neil’s team, who possessed the envoy group tokens. The presence of Aiden’s team in an unauthorized area aroused suspicion among many soldiers.
"If you don’t mind, I need to check your identities. If you’re not intruders, we might let you go!" several soldiers from the knight group stated firmly.
Aiden remained silent, as did the others. Their words were clear; they intended to verify the authenticity of Aiden and his team’s identities. If they found anything suspicious, they might take immediate action.
The worst-case scenario was that they would severely punish Aiden’s team on the spot.
"We are the escort team from the 17th Mage Group. We came to escort them. That’s why we don’t have the envoy group token," Aiden explained.
"Liar!" another man shouted, completely denying that Aiden and his team were the escort team.
"How can we prove to you that we are the escort team?" Amber asked.
Several soldiers smiled broadly, Amber’s words seeming to attract their attention, challenging them to fight. That was why many of the soldiers drew their swords and pointed the blades forward.
Aiden smiled cynically. If they wanted a fight, then Aiden would gladly oblige.
He and his team members formed a circular formation, standing back-to-back with one another.
The real threat from the knights in front of them didn’t faze them. Instead, it only made them more determined to defeat them all.
"Attack them!" the soldiers shouted, ordering the others to charge at Aiden and his entire team.
Aiden ordered Amber and the others to hold their ground, making sure they didn’t get injured or even killed by the knights’ attacks. Aiden was certain their abilities were far weaker than Amber’s and the others’.
They parried, dodged, and pushed the knights back. The knights were forced to step back with shocked expressions. However, it was clear that they were unharmed.
"Damn, this is useless," one soldier replied.
They jumped back, readying their swords. Aiden had anticipated their movements; they were trying to use the Will of the Sword.
"Sword Will? It seems we can do that too!" Aiden said firmly.
Aiden channeled his magical energy from his hands into his spear. Instantly, the spear turned into a flaming spear with a golden glow, something that surprised them.
Not only Aiden, but Amber, Aurora, Rachel, and Joe did the same. They channeled their magical energy into their weapons, causing them to emit their own light, depending on their dominant element.
"What’s happening? Why are they emitting different lights from our Sword’s Will?" asked the soldier. Another soldier shook his head, unaware of what was happening.
They stared ahead, their hearts trembling with fear, their minds haunted by the absolute terror of Aiden’s team’s power. Their ignorance was their weakness.
And those who could manipulate their enemies’ weaknesses were the winners of the battle!
"Attack them again!" the soldier shouted.
"Everyone, lower your heads," Aiden ordered. Amber and the others nodded obediently.
Aiden gripped his spear tightly, then swung it sideways and spun it, creating a large red sickle attack that struck the soldiers.
BLAST!
An explosion occurred, startling many people, who were injured by the attack. However, they were lucky because none of them were seriously injured by Aiden’s fatal attack.
"AKH!"
"I thought an enemy general was attacking, but it seems to be just a regular guard team," replied a middle-aged man, stepping forward while still wearing his military uniform.
All the soldiers quickly got to their feet and knelt down, regardless of how painful their wounds were; they had to rise and obey the man.
"Calm down, young man. You don’t need to attack them anymore," replied the man in the black military shirt adorned with medals, instantly piquing Aiden’s curiosity.
Aiden turned around and looked behind him. There, he clearly saw a middle-aged man in a black shirt with gold and silver insignia walking toward him and his team members. The military insignia covered the man’s chest and shoulders.
"Who are you?" Aiden asked, only to be laughed at by the man. Of course, this made many people curious.
"Haha, this is the first time I’ve heard someone ask that. Good, it seems like you don’t know anything about me," the man replied.
"My name is Hendrik Pompo. I am the Commander of the Mage Unit at the Yixia Border," Hendrik answered.
"What? So, he’s the one in charge of all the mage soldiers here?" Aiden asked, looking wary.
"Come with me, Aiden. There’s something I want to discuss with you, just the two of us," explained Hendrik.
Aiden remained silent at first, unsure of how to respond. Hendrik turned back and smiled broadly at Aiden. Hendrik knew exactly why Aiden was wary.
"You all go. Never disturb this team again," Hendrik ordered all the soldiers there.
"But they don’t have the Messenger Group Token. According to the rules, they—"
Hendrik tapped his magic pouch and produced the Messenger Group Token, sending the item flying from in front of him to Aiden. Aiden immediately caught it.
"Now he has it. Do you have any other objections?" Hendrik asked.
They shook their heads; none of them objected to Hendrik’s decision to give the Messenger Group Token to Aiden. If Commander Hendrik had made that decision, then there was no need to prolong the matter.
"Good that you understand," Hendrik replied.
He and Aiden walked away from the place, heading toward a large house used for two purposes: Hendrik’s resting place and the mage unit’s command room.
Aiden walked alone, while the members of Aiden’s team were guided by Hendrik’s staff. This time, what Hendrik wanted to discuss with Aiden was very important, concerning strategy and victory in war.
"You probably already know that the Arcanis Kingdom and the Xiliang Kingdom have been at war for a long time. They are fighting each other to ensure their safety," replied Aiden.
Aiden nodded. He did not know the exact history of how the war started. However, he had heard that the two were fighting over territory and resources.
This had been going on for hundreds of years, with every king proposing hundreds of thousands of ceasefire agreements.
The last ceasefire agreement was proposed a year ago. Currently, the Yixia border was once again in turmoil due to the ongoing war.
"Then, what does this have to do with me?" asked Aiden.
"Be silent and don’t speak, bow your head," Hendrik ordered, leaving Aiden confused.
He did exactly as he was told. The door to the house, which resembled an office, was open, revealing many staff members working with papers and magical archives. When Hendrik arrived, all the staff paused their activities and paid their respects to Hendrik.
"Greetings, Mage Commander!" they greeted him obediently.
"Back to work!" Hendrik ordered, and they obeyed.
Hendrik turned around, motioning for Aiden to follow him into his office. Aiden nodded without speaking, genuinely curious about why Hendrik had told him to stay silent.
The door to Hendrik’s office opened. Aiden lifted his head and saw that the people in the room were Henry Reinhard and Rose Hurd.
The two nobles had arrived two days before Aiden, flying from Lunor City to the Pompo Administrative Region.
"Sir Henry? Lady Rose?" asked Aiden, surprised.
"There is a reason why I called you here, Aiden," explained Hendrik, drawing Aiden’s attention to him.
"What is it?"
"We need the power of your three dragons," replied Hendrik, surprising Aiden.
"Dragons?"
Aiden reflexively turned to the front, clearly seeing Rose Hurd’s face. As he had expected, she would not be able to hide this truth for much longer.
She would definitely tell someone about this. However, Aiden didn’t expect her to tell Hendrik, the Mage Commander of the Pompo Administrative Region.
"So, you told him?" Aiden asked Rose.
"I had to do it. Otherwise, I would feel guilty about what happened," Rose explained.
Aiden refocused his eyes forward, watching Hendrik closely, "If I have a dragon, then what will happen?"
"One dragon can kill an entire squad of knight soldiers. That will turn the tide and make the situation favorable for us," Hendrik replied.
"Now, you have three dragons ready to defend the Arcanis Kingdom. With that, I’m certain victory will be ours," Hendrik explained.
"I don’t know. I won’t make them transform into dragons for something that—"
"I can help you escape the wanted list of the Astralis Magical Academy. Also, the three of us will keep your identity a secret," Hendrik interrupted.
Aiden fell silent. To make this decision, he couldn’t do it alone. He had to speak with Amber, Aurora, and Rachel first. If they didn’t object, then Aiden would follow Hendrik’s plan.
However, if they refused, Aiden had no choice but to reject Hendrik’s proposal.
"I’ll talk to them. Can I give you an answer tomorrow?" Aiden asked.
Hendrik nodded in agreement. He had already prepared a special house for them to stay in tonight; Amber and the others had already been taken there.
"Of course. Use your time wisely, Aiden."
