Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 1011: Beyond imagination
Rain felt like his head was going to explode. Here he was, trying to protect the world from unknown threats, and Zeus was messing with him by assigning a test about reading the entire "One Piece" series. While Rain had a personal desire to read and enjoy the series until the end, the current situation demanded his full attention.
He wanted to uncover the mysteries of the world, confront powerful adversaries, and ensure the safety of everyone, not engage in a reading challenge.
"This is absurd," Rain said. "I want to see the end of 'One Piece' as much as the next person, but I have more important things to deal with."
"You misunderstand, Rain. This is not just about entertainment. It's a test of your analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to comprehend complex narratives. These qualities are crucial for the challenges you'll face." Zeus said. "Do you think that someone as smart enough to learn the principles of magic and create a system within a few decades would waste time?"
"You will make people think that all people in Japan are otakus that anime girls bodypillows," Rain said.
"Nothing wrong with that. I had the entire collection of the saber faces as bodypillows," Zeus said.
"I can see now why you failed to save the world," Rain said when he looked at the others. "You chose to follow a retard."
Rain sighed, realizing that arguing further might not be productive. He reluctantly agreed to take the test but made it clear that he expected more relevant challenges afterward. As he began reading, he couldn't help but wonder what other surprises and trials awaited him in this mysterious domain. Besides, he already found the sixth relic, so that he could relax a bit.
So, he decided to read one piece and hope that the others wouldn't do anything insane.
"Pass me the first volume when you finish reading it," Nigel said.
"Yes… come out from the sea and face me!" Rain said. "A true warrior doesn't hide, Poseidon."
"What did I do to deserve this?" Elisabetha asked.
"While they are doing something productive, according to your standards, why did you try to hide the signs of the old world?" Larisa asked.
"I didn't, and the overseer did that," Zeus said. "My guess is that he wanted to hide evidences of the end of the world to avoid panic. Besides, with that information, people wouldn't be able to live a normal life, and apparently, he wants people to use the system and develop it while following normal lives."
"So, are the dragons part of the system or not?" Larisa asked. "It is hard that whoever planned the end of the planet would let another civilization flourish in its place, even more so when it had species different from the old one."
"I don't know the details, but I am pretty sure that they are aware of the arrival of new species, and they don't look particularly bothered by it, whoever they might be," Zeus said. "The dragons arrived alongside the other species and began to grow as well, and they were very different from the ones we saw since they weren't as strong.
As such, they didn't have bodies that barely could withstand their power. They also got used to the climate of the world overtime."
As the group absorbed Zeus's explanations, they began to piece together the intricate details of their world's history. The initial dragons, shaped by the urgent need for power, emerged as malformed and disfigured creatures. In stark contrast, the new generation of dragons likely started as weaker beings, evolving over time with the assistance of the system.
Zeus, however, refrained from explicitly stating another hypothesis: that these dragons might have originated as eggs. This possibility could provide a logical explanation for their adaptation to the path system, as eggs could have allowed them to gradually acclimate to the environmental conditions and mystical energies of the world.
The evolving narrative sheds light on the intricate relationship between the dragons, the system, and the mysteries of the past.
"Even after all this time, you don't know who the real enemies are…" Larisa said.
"We never left the planet, but thanks to him, this might be possible… perhaps this was the goal of the oversee all along…" Zeus said. "Regardless, the enemies only sent enough power to destroy our world and gather enough data and the numerous varieties of DNA."

"Rain thought that they came for the nutrients of the world…" Larisa said.
"That is a part of it, but most of that can be found anywhere in the cosmos," Zeus said. "The enemies that you saw were basically foot soldiers that prepared the terrain for the devourers to come and finish the job. They obtained everything that they needed.
Knowledge, DNA samples of all species, the substances and nutrients that our world created over eons, and so on… this is the true scale of the things that we are facing."
The group struggled to comprehend the gravity of the situation. The idea that the beings who destroyed their world were merely foot soldiers sent to prepare for a greater threat left them dumbfounded. How could such seemingly entities wreak havoc on an earth and effortlessly gather resources?
The notion that these enemies viewed their entire species as inconsequential added an extra layer of complexity to the already difficult circumstances. It was challenging for the group to fathom how they could stand against a formidable adversary with vast resources and an apparent indifference toward their existence.
The enormity of the challenge ahead weighed heavily on their minds as they grappled with the true scale of the impending threat.
"Not everything is lost. You didn't have the chance to see the overseer because he couldn't let people from the past see him, but Rain was able to see him, and he could tell what kind of entity he was," Zeus said. "He is a creature beyond our wildest imagination."
