Chapter 120: Shadow Wing Assasination Attempt!

The soldiers stationed throughout the stadium were remarkably efficient. They reacted with incredible speed, moving like ghosts to appear in front of any student showing signs of radiant transformation. Their spears would flash forward in killing strikes that destroyed corrupted hearts before the transformation could complete, ending lives quickly and efficiently to prevent any potential outbreaks.

Bodies began piling up around various cages as the mortality rate became visibly apparent. For every three or four students who survived successfully, one or two would transform and need to be eliminated. The ratio was actually better than historical averages, suggesting this year’s class had been better prepared than usual.

Finally, the designated time limit reached its conclusion. All students who were going to return had now awakened from their trials. The soldiers moved through the stadium systematically, killing the final radiants and beginning the process of identifying and categorizing survivors.

Suddenly, one particular soldier approached Vogue’s cage with purposeful strides. Unlike the other guards who had been moving randomly between cages, this man walked directly toward Vogue as though he had a specific target in mind.

The soldier got close enough that he could speak without being overheard by others nearby. He leaned in slightly and whispered in a voice that carried clear malicious intent.

"This is a gift from the Shadow-Wing Gang!"

Without any further warning or hesitation, the soldier thrust his spear forward with lethal force, aiming directly for Vogue’s chest. The man’s cultivation level was at the 6th level of the Stellar Knight realm, far above what a newly evolved Level 1 Knight should be able to handle.

The spear tore through the air with such tremendous speed that it appeared to teleport rather than actually travel the distance. The wind itself screeched in protest from the velocity, creating a high-pitched whistling sound. At this cultivation level, the strike should have been impossible for Vogue to perceive, let alone react to.

Vogue’s face turned cold as ice the moment he recognized what was happening. An assassination attempt, right here in the middle of the school stadium, in front of hundreds of witnesses. The Shadow-Wing Gang was either incredibly bold or incredibly foolish.

Just as the spear’s sharp tip pierced approximately two centimeters into Vogue’s chest, beginning to draw blood, his hand suddenly moved in a blur.

Vogue’s fingers closed around the sharp metal tip of the spear, gripping it firmly and stopping its forward momentum completely. The weapon simply halted mid-thrust as though it had struck an immovable barrier, unable to penetrate any further despite the tremendous force behind it.

The soldier’s face went completely pale with shock and disbelief. His eyes widened until the whites were visible all around his pupils.

"Impossible!" he gasped, his voice cracking with genuine fear.

Vogue had just become a Stellar Knight, barely hours ago based on when the trial had ended. There was absolutely no way he should possess physical strength anywhere near sufficient to stop a 6th-level Stellar Knight’s full-force attack with just his bare hand.

Even if Vogue had used Super Evolution to evolve—which would put him significantly above Normal Evolution users—he still shouldn’t be this strong. The only explanation that would make sense would be if Vogue had somehow achieved Ultimate Evolution, but that was impossible. That was... that was...

The soldier’s thoughts ground to a halt as the terrifying realization began to dawn on him.

He desperately tried to push the spear forward with even more force, channeling every bit of his 6th-level cultivation into the thrust. His muscles bulged and veins stood out on his forearms from the strain. But the spear refused to budge even a single millimeter. It might as well have been embedded in solid titanium for all the effect his strength was having.

Vogue spoke calmly, his voice cold and carrying an edge of genuine danger. "You actually dared to ambush a student on the school’s grounds? In the middle of the stadium, surrounded by witnesses and under the protection of the academy?"

He paused, genuinely surprised by the audacity. "I didn’t think the Shadow-Wing Gang’s influence had penetrated even into the Citadel’s territory. That’s actually impressive in a stupid sort of way."

His grip on the spear tightened slightly, causing the metal to groan under the pressure. "Perfect. I was actually planning to leave your organization alone and forget about you people since it felt beneath me to waste time hunting down those weaker than me. But now that you’ve made the first move..."

Vogue’s eyes narrowed with cold resolve. "I won’t be called bloodthirsty or excessive if I completely wipe out your entire gang as justified retaliation."

The soldier’s face contorted with a mixture of fear and desperate bravado. "You don’t have the guts!" he shouted, trying to sound confident even though his voice shook. "The Shadow-Wing Gang has connections throughout the city! If you touch me, they’ll hunt you down and—"

Vogue chuckled darkly, cutting off the threat. "That’s a really stupid thing to say given your current situation."

In one smooth, powerful motion, Vogue twisted his wrist and redirected the spear with his entire Ultimate Evolution-enhanced strength behind the movement.

The weapon was ripped from the soldier’s grip so violently that it tore skin from his palms. Then Vogue reversed the spear’s direction and thrust it forward with devastating force.

"BANG!"

The spear shot through the air and stabbed completely through the soldier’s body with such tremendous impact that it didn’t just pierce him—it carried his entire body backward through the air.

The soldier’s body was lifted off the ground and propelled backward like a ragdoll until it collided with another cage approximately ten meters away. The spear pinned him against the metal bars, going through his torso and out the other side to embed itself in the cage structure.

By cruel irony or perhaps deliberate aim, the cage Vogue had pinned the assassin to was the same one where a student had recently transformed into a radiant and been killed by that soldier personally. The corpse of the radiant student lay slumped at the base of the cage, and now the soldier’s body hung above it, impaled and dying slowly.
