Chapter 83 – Like a brother

Sisters?

Esmeray tilted slightly her head to one side, looking intensely at the two women in front of her.

She saw the wide, bright grin of the obviously energetic Mei and the calm, almost gloomy Ellie, who hadn’t spoken a single word since they met.

She looked at them consecutively before shaking her head softly.

"You don’t look like sisters to me," she said finally, clearly not believing Mei’s words.

"Not minding how different your two personalities are, you don’t even look a little bit alike in a way that could make you sisters."

At her words, Mei laughed.

"Hahahah! Hey, there are sisters who don’t look alike, you know? Who told you we had the same parents? Maybe we don’t have the same mother or father — so on what basis are you judging us?" Mei said, looking at Esmeray’s changing expression with a grin.

And that was true.

She hadn’t really considered those possibilities. And now that she thought about it... maybe they actually were sisters after all.

Seeing Esmeray’s face gradually come to accept her words, Mei couldn’t help but laugh again.

"We are sisters — but not biological ones," she said suddenly, not wanting to fool someone she was interested in and wanted to befriend.

Ellie, at her side, was watching all this with a neutral gaze. But inside, she was cursing Mei violently for doing all these unnecessary things.

They should have just waited for Ethan, not wasted time trying to make friends.

She sighed softly inwardly, ’What a bother...’

"Then... you’re friends who consider yourselves sisters?" Esmeray asked, not really understanding why she was even this interested in what these two were.

Mei shook her head.

"We love — and are the wives of — the same man. So... we’re sisters!" Mei said joyfully.

But her words deeply surprised Esmeray. Her eyes widened as she looked again at the two women.

Then she shook her head.

"How is that possible? I didn’t know there was a man as capable as Ethan out there," Esmeray said, still visibly stunned by the revelation.

But suddenly she shivered uncontrollably.

She raised her head and looked at the two women in front of her — and what she saw chilled her heart.

Mei’s face had suddenly gone blank, without any visible emotion. Her golden eyes were glowing so intensely that the temperature in the room began to rise.

Ellie’s expression didn’t change... but if earlier Esmeray had felt like Ellie wasn’t truly focused on her, now she felt her complete and absolute attention.

And it made her uneasy.

It was like shadows were crawling up her back.

"Did... did you just say Ethan?" Ellie spoke for the first time.

Her question made Esmeray’s thoughts snap into sharp focus — and suddenly, everything clicked.

Two beautiful women with talent that could rival hers.

Women who looked ready to kill her just because she said his name.

And... women who claimed to be the wives of the same man.

It wasn’t that difficult to guess.

Her eyes widened even more.

"You... you two are Ethan’s wives?" she asked, her voice full of disbelief.

At her words, Mei and Ellie smiled coldly.

"Mei Yagami, Sword of Oath."

"Ellie Yagami, Umbra Fortunae."

They said consecutively — then, in perfect unison:

"Nice to meet you."

They smiled.

But in their voices... there was no warmth.

Only coldness.

And the unusual meeting took a sharp new turn.

...

Meanwhile, while three women were busy having murderous thoughts for each other for him, Ethan was lying peacefully on Airi’s lap, completely at ease.

Airi looked at his sleeping face with visible worry. It was starting to take too much time, but until now, there hadn’t been any signs of danger.

So either the Archdemon had found a way to harm Ethan without the artifact reacting...

Or they were still deep in conversation.

Airi sighed.

"You’re so troublesome..." she muttered but even with those words, which carried her irritation at Ethan, her hand never stopped lovingly stroking his beautiful black-and-white hair.

And she couldn’t help but feel it.

It wasn’t the kind of love a woman had for a man... no.

It was the kind of love you hold for a troublesome little brother.

He always irritated her.

But she would do anything to make him smile when something was wrong.

That kind of love.

She sighed again. "You better—!"

"I better what?" a voice suddenly interrupted her, and Airi immediately looked down — only to find Ethan staring back at her, his black-and-white, balance-shaped pupils gleaming softly.

A mesmerizing sight.

Ethan was truly a beautiful man.

"You must really be the type to break the hearts of young maidens, Ethan," Airi said, still looking at his face.

Ethan laughed joyfully.

"You think so? I’m actually a very good man, you know," he said, getting up slowly.

"Yes, of course," Airi replied flatly, clearly not believing a single word.

But Ethan didn’t say anything more. He just chuckled softly and shook his head.

"How did it go?" Airi asked.

"It was interesting. Really — I never thought I’d meet a demon like that," Ethan responded.

"But now I have to take out the spear to wake him up, and then do some deep transformation."

At that, a question surfaced in his mind:

’Do I even have the necessary points for the transformation?’ he wondered.

[You have 15 quadrillion points left. It’s enough.]

He sighed in relief, grateful he wouldn’t end up embarrassing himself.

"What do you mean by some transformation?" Airi asked, bringing his attention back.

"Well, nothing much really — just turning him into a human and oh..."

He turned and looked at Airi, whose face was now visibly puzzled.

"You’ll be receiving another member for my Church of The Allholder," he said with a grin.

Then, without waiting for her response, he turned back toward Seravax’s body and stopped just an inch away.

He looked at the golden, shining spear — a weapon that exuded so much power that if it weren’t for the protective barrier around him, he would’ve died.

Just from the residual aura alone — not even the true pressure.

That showed not only how powerful this weapon was... but also how weak he still was.

Weak without his system.

Well, not truly weak — since Ethan had used his system wisely, obtaining things that belonged to him alone.

Like his class, his bloodline, and his talents.

So even if he were to lose his system now, he wouldn’t be helpless.

He’d just have to work harder... and grind endlessly.

’I hope not,’ Ethan thought before suddenly gripping the spear firmly without any preparation and...

"WHO ARE YOU!!"

BOOOM—!

A sudden, explosive voice echoed directly inside his mind, bypassing the barrier entirely the moment he touched the spear and the sheer force of it made Ethan stagger, blood immediately flowing from his eyes, ears, and mouth.

Thud.

Ethan fell.
