Infinite Wealth System: Crazy Tasks, Insane Rewards!-Chapter 37: Alley Hero
Chapter 37: Alley Hero
Jayden got a call from Camilia on his way to campus. He hadn’t cleared things up with her about what happened during their last call, and he knew he had to.
Though they might not be dating yet, Camilia was in his harem, and besides that, Jayden had a lot of interest in her.
"Hey, Jayden. Do you mind meeting up with me? I’m at campus at the moment," Camilia said.
"Uhmm... Sure. Where exactly are you?" Jayden asked.
"You know exactly where I am," Camilia teasingly said as Jayden heard a splash of water from the other end.
Jayden chuckled as the call ended. "The fountain," he muttered and changed his destination immediately.
’To hell with Accounting,’ he thought.
Actually, he had really been hesitating to take today’s lecture. Now that Camilia had shown up, well, he guessed she had made sure he skipped it.
While he was on his way to the fountain, walking past a lonesome alley, a weird sound made Jayden halt.
He wouldn’t actually need to pass through the alley, and yet, he suddenly became interested in whatever was happening there.
Because he already sensed something was not good at all. Whatever was happening there wasn’t a good thing.
"Didn’t I tell you to keep your mouth shut?!"
POW!
A harsh voice suddenly sounded when he got quite close, followed by a punch.
Jayden’s eyes narrowed at once.
He quickly dashed forward and entered the alley, spotting two older guys, both slightly broad-shouldered and cocky in posture, shoving a smaller boy against the brick wall.
The victim, clearly younger and painfully thin, clutched his laptop bag to his chest like it was a shield, his face red from the beating he had received. One of the bullies snatched the bag out of his hands and unzipped it roughly.
"Hey!"
It was then that Jayden showed up from nowhere.
"Let him go," he said, glaring at the two bullies.
Jayden was definitely aware that he had a task related to this controversy right here, and sure, he was literally just going to try completing it.
Even though he had an idea that he was about to face some big problems.
The two guys looked up. The taller of the bullies squinted at Jayden with an expression that practically spelled ’who the hell is this guy?’
"And who are you supposed to be?" the guy said, a smug grin spreading across his face.
"Captain Save-a-Nerd?"
Jayden sighed, ignoring the sarcasm... His stance remained bold, like he was a hero on a rescue mission.
> [Task #010 (Bronze Level) Triggered! Defend someone from being bullied on campus. Beat up the bullies no matter the numbers.]
> [Rewards: $5 Million. +10 Combat.]
Jayden gave the interface a short glance and thought, ’I guess you’re the one making it happen, system.’
Turning back to the boys, he let out another bold statement.
"Just let him go. He is not a punching bag. At least if you’re looking for one, you know the way to the gym," Jayden said.
"Who the hell are you?! You should get the hell out of here before we consider adding you too," the same guy with the smug grin said. "What we’re doing here is none of your business."
"Of course it is," Jayden cut in, his eyes darkening. "I’m literally warning you to let him go."
The boy being bullied, who was likely to be around nineteen to twenty years old, stood there, speechless as he watched them. His face held a sense of worry, like he didn’t want Jayden to pick a fight with them, and even though Jayden noticed it, he didn’t mind.
"Are you threatening us? Who the heck do you think you are?" the second guy then asked, moving a step closer.
Jayden exhaled slowly.
"I’m just someone who’s tired of people like you," he said, stepping forward with purpose.
The first guy stepped up too, cracking his knuckles. "You got a death wish, bro?"
Jayden scoffed, not sparing a response.
And suddenly, the next thing he saw was a fist dashing toward his face.
Jayden quickly moved away and dodged. How fast was he? He didn’t even know. All he knew was that he escaped a punch that could have broken his nose.
"I never wanted violence, but I guess you’re pushing me to do it," Jayden commented, shaking his head.
But truly, the system had actually stated that beating them up was part of the task.
It was almost impossible for someone like him to beat these two crazy guys up, but what could he do?
It was a task that had consequences if he didn’t complete it. Plus, sure, he was tired of seeing bullies do their thing and go free.
> [Fighting is not just about strength, but strategy. Smartness. Intelligence.]
The system voiced.
> [You just have to capitalize on the enemy’s flaw. Attack the crucial parts of their body, and you are good.]
’Tch. You’re making it sound so easy,’ Jayden thought.
But he really had taken that guide to heart.
"You shouldn’t have come here, nigha... Now you’re just gonna add to the fun we’re having here," the second guy added.
The next moment, there was another punch attempt, but Jayden managed to dodge again.
Their faces turned red immediately, noticing that Jayden was making a mockery of them. They decided not to waste time and charged at him at once.
But then...
Jayden made his first attacking attempt.
He ducked low and threw an instinctive elbow into the first guy’s ribs.
"Argh!" The first guy groaned in pain, clutching his ribs as he kneeled on the floor.
The second attacker lunged, angrily throwing both fists consecutively within a second, but Jayden stepped into his space, twisted his arm behind his back, and slammed him against the wall with enough force to knock the wind out of him.
That was sense... not strength.
The other guy stood up immediately, staggering toward Jayden as he clenched his teeth in intense anger.
Jayden only shook his head, and by the time the guy tried punching, like it was the only attacking move they’d got, Jayden already went for his legs, striking a clothesline behind his knee to send him falling, drenched in pain.
Jayden straightened his back, breathing heavily but standing firm. Around them, students had begun to gather, drawn in by the noise. A small crowd formed, phones out, eyes wide.
The next moment, the two bullies dashed away from the scene, noticing the growing crowd. They didn’t want to be seen. It would be indeed shameful.
"Yo, he just wiped both of them..."
"Who is that guy?"
"I think that’s the guy from the Zintech new ownership announcement video..."
"That’s Jayden Cole! The sudden rich guy who was a delivery guy two weeks ago!"
Jayden heard the side talk and only smiled.
He also received the notification of completing the task.
[Task #010 Completed!]
[You have gained $5,000,000! It will be transferred into your account.]
[You have gained +10 Combat to your Attributes!]
He ignored the message for the time being and then turned to the boy who’d been bullied.
"You good?"
The boy nodded rapidly, eyes still wide in shock. "Th-thank you... I don’t know what they wanted. I didn’t even—"
"It’s fine. Head out of here," Jayden cut in, giving him a reassuring look.
The boy didn’t need telling twice. He clutched his bag and bolted, leaving the alley and definitely heading home.
Jayden sighed, turning back toward the small crowd. The murmurs behind him followed like a shadow, and it was already looking like he was a hero there.
Then, at one side, he spotted Camilia. She was actually one of the students watching him... He could see the brightness on her face as she stared in plain admiration.
He approached her. She folded her arms across her chest as she watched him come forward, her lips curving into a slow smile.
"You do realize you just became the main character on campus, right?" she asked, giggling.
Jayden gave a sheepish grin. "It wasn’t the plan."
"No?" she said, amused. "Because you walked in there like a freaking action hero. That was insane."
He shrugged. "I just... didn’t like the way they were treating him."
Camilia stepped closer, her voice softening. "That’s exactly what makes you different. Most people would’ve walked by. Pretended they didn’t see anything. But you stepped in."
There was a silence between them, warm and meaningful.
Then she nudged him lightly. "Come on. You earned yourself a drink," Camilia said with a smile, her tone prideful.
They walked side-by-side to a nearby café, her perfume a soft trace in the air between them. They ordered iced drinks and sat beneath a shaded table, as they sat across from each other, staring eyeball to eyeball like a couple already married.
"You’ve changed," she said after a while, stirring her cup. "You’re not the same guy I met a few weeks ago."
Jayden looked at her, his brows furrowing, curious. "In a good way?"
"In the best way," Camilia corrected.
Now, this only sounded like a compliment, and with a soft look of approval, he took a sip of the drink.
"But you haven’t told me about your babe..."
The next moment, Camilia voiced it.
At that point, Jayden almost choked on his drink.
> [You see?]
Jayden heard the system right.
’Right! 60% Affection is really important,’ Jayden thought.
Now he had to face this.
