Ever since she lost her father, she had always been training, aiming to become a police officer.

She understood, becoming a police officer, especially one that dealt with those big cases involving criminals, she needed to have personal strength.

After all, it was not as though she would always have to depend on her identity as the police officer, or the gun that was assigned to her.

Due to the intense training that she had been doing since she was young, when she joined the police academy, the training there was a breeze for her.

And when she was to be recruited into NEXUS, she thought that it would not be much of a problem for her to be able to make it here.

Yes, she anticipated that the training here would be much more intense as compared to the one in the police academy. But, she never expected that it would be this intense, that it left her breathless.

By now, the training that she had done before was almost like a joke. It was as though she was previously jogging, but now, she was sprinting.

Even though she was usually left completely drained of all her energy after the training sessions, she still loved it. After all, this was the path to growth.

If she was strong enough, she would be able to deal with those behind the death of her father.

On the other hand, if she could manage to climb the ranks here, she would not have to be afraid of Michael’s background.

After all, if they needed to be together, even if it was Michael who made the final decision on who he was with, his family would still get involved in one way or the other.

While this was a secret organization, Kate did not believe that there was nobody else that knew about its existence.

When she left Brenton city, she was brought here. The helicopter that brought her here contained not only herself, but also Lina.

And when they got here, she realized that others had already arrived before them, but the difference of arrival time was just days.

And just 3 days after they arrived, the training began. They trained for an entire week, before they were finally allowed to take a break.

After that, they continued with the training, yet they were not informed of anything regarding the organization.

If not for the information that she had gotten through Michael, she would also be as clueless as the other trainees with her here.

During this time that they were training, Kate was shocked by the fact that Lina was so fit.

She and the other trainees struggled, despite each one of them having been of good physicality before they were recruited.

But Lina, even though she seemed to be straining, at least she had an easier time as compared to them.

Where they would be left completely breathless, she would only be breathing a little heavily.

Where they were completely drenched in sweat, she would only have a few beads of sweat on her forehead.

This was something that stunned not only Kate, but the other trainees as well.

And just from this, it was quite easy for Kate and the others to be able to tell that Lina had an incredible physique.

Which was why Kate had no other choice but to ask about it, as she felt that just training was not enough to be able to have such fitness.

If it was just a matter of training, then she would be as strong as Lina was, right? After all, she had been training intensely since she was young, and occasionally, her mother hired trainers to train her.

The relationship between Kate and Lina was extremely good, and they were basically friends.

Even though they had not interacted for long, Kate had already included Lina in the same group as Susan, someone that she could trust.

"Sometimes, it is not just about the training or the food that someone ate. Instead, sometimes, it is innate. After all, other people are born with extraordinary strength.

As for me, I was born with an extraordinary physique. So, it is impossible for other people without any extra ordinary traits to be able to compare with me." Lina responded nonchalantly.

Kate did not refute what Lina had said. After all, she had seen it by herself, and there was no any other explanation other than this.

"Anyway, when do you think they will tell us what to do? Or, are they even going to inform us how long we are going to be involved in the training?" Kate swiftly changed the topic, not wanting to linger.

"I’m not really sure about that. But, most probably, after training, there should be something like a trial.

After the trial, maybe we will be assigned somewhere, or would be given some tasks to do? I don’t know, but that is how some organizations like this operate in the movies." Lina shook her head as she responded.

There was quite a moment of silence, as the two of them continued relaxing from the intense training session.

And about 4 or so minutes later, Lina suddenly looked towards the forest as she spoke, "That guy, he seems to be into you."

Upon hearing Lina’s words, Kate looked in the direction that Lina was looking at, before she simply shook her head as she said, "But I’m not into him. So, I guess he will have to look for another target."

"Hmm? You are not going to give it a consideration? You know, he is handsome, and strong as well. In this entire lot of recruits, he can be considered to be among the top." Lina asked mischievously.

Kate could obviously tell that Lina was simply trying to mess with her. So, she just shook her head without saying anything.

What could she even say? It was not as though she could stop someone from loving her. Still, they could not force her to love them back.

At the moment, she already had someone else in her heart. It was impossible for that person to be replaced, as despite being far from him for quite a while now, she seemed to become much more fond of him.

If not for the training, her goals, and the ambition that she had, she would have most probably quit and gone back.

Seeing that Kate was not responding, Lina simply shook her head as a slight smile appeared on her lips. Though, she also stopped paying attention to the guy that was currently looking at the two of them.

The man that the two of them were talking about stood among the other recruits, half-turned in their direction. He looked to be in his early 20s, tall, with a lean build.

Short black hair clung to his forehead with sweat, and his sharp features were softened by an easy, confident smile.

His training uniform was worn loosely, the collar undone and sleeves rolled down, dust marking the knees and boots.

One hand rested casually at his side while the other moved as he spoke to the recruits around him, voice low, making it impossible for Kate and Lina to be able to know what he was talking about.

As both Kate and Lina gazed in his direction, the guy revealed a faint smile. But when the two of them completely ignored him, he frowned slightly.

After that, the two ladies noticed that he was approaching them, through the peripheral view of their eyes.

The two of them did not react, acting as though they did not notice him approaching. Instead, they just continued remaining silent, trying to recover their energy.

"Hi, ladies, my name is Evan Davies. Just like you guys, I’m also a new recruit. Even though we have been here in the trending camp for quite a while, we have never really interacted before.

So, today I thought that I would come and interact with you ladies for a bit, I hope you don’t mind." As soon as he arrived, the young man spoke enthusiastically as he stretched his hand for a handshake towards Kate.

Kate lifted her head, gazing at him slightly, but she did not refuse to shake hands with him. Though, it was just brief, as she nodded at him, without introducing herself.

Evan on the other hand did not seem to mind this, as he shook hands with Lina as well, the smile on his face maintained.

"I hope that you two ladies don’t mind me joining you, right?" Evan spoke, his voice just like those popular singers with great voices.

"Sorry, but we mind." This time, Lina refused.

It seemed that Evan had not expected such a response at all. So, the smile on his face froze for quite a moment, before he cleared his throat, as though he wanted to wash away the embarrassment.

Still, he did not insist, as he said, "Then if that is the case, then I will be leaving. Still, since we are going to be colleagues in the future, I hope to know you guys better, so that in case of anything, we can help each other out."

Immediately after saying those words, he turned around and left.

A little while later, Lina gazed at Kate and asked, "You sure that you are not interested in him? After all, he seems to be quite a good guy, right?"

"Well, liking someone doesn’t matter if someone is good or not. It is just a matter of personal tastes and attraction. So, no matter how good he is, he is not going to change the way that I feel about him. The two of us are just strangers, and the link between us is that of fellow recruits." Kate responded as she shrugged her shoulders.
