Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 422 - Larkspur’s Rapid Construction
Chapter 422: Chapter 422 - Larkspur’s Rapid Construction
After the people’s initial shock from almost being buried alive, everyone around looked at me with a mix of surprise and fear. I understood what that look meant for sure. It is totally screaming "What if we did not get back in time when the hour was over? Are you going to bury us just like that?"
I looked back at them with a feigned surprise and then shook my head. I gave them a mysterious smile instead which made everybody around me turn pale.
Well, I won’t really bury them alive in front of my in-laws, of course. People just need discipline in these types of things especially when there is a clear time constraint. A time limit is there for a reason so you better not mess with it especially when I was the one who set it.
After filling out the excavation site, the next thing I did was solidify the ground further. The top part looks like smoothened soil but I have already made sure that underneath was so compact, it is as good as wet cement after it has hardened. It would be the best base to rebuild the structures in my in-laws’ duchy.
I started with marking the ground based on last night’s finalized plans as to where to place certain buildings. I asked everybody to focus on preparing some food for lunch for now because they will need all the energy they can get for today’s rapid construction agenda.
The attendants immediately followed as they were told and started preparing the meals while on the other hand, I started putting the markings on the ground as a guide for building the mansion, the barracks, the infirmary and the market area which were the things in our agenda. My job was done almost at the same time that the meals are done cooking and are ready to serve. I have also neatly placed all available construction materials that is meant for each structure near their designated marked areas for easier access to the workers.
After our quick but filling early lunch, the construction finally started. I made sure to help in different places at once, making sure that the foundation of the structures were sturdy. Unfortunately, there is no cement in this world so I just have to make do by mixing plant extracts, sticky type of soil, water and sand to make a gluey substance that hardens quickly. You have to make most of what is available and just sprinkle some magic spells here and there and it should come out perfectly.
I let the people stack the bricks and stones manually since they volunteered and insisted on having a share of the work. As an overseer, I simply made sure that all the foundation posts and walls are placed and aligned correctly based on the markings on the ground.
Once I am contented with how the foundation of the buildings looked like, I used quick time lapse, wind and heat spells once in a while to harden the gluey thing faster and hold everything in place. We all spent the rest of our afternoons just doing the construction work using human speed and techniques.
Since I got bored of waiting, I decided to go to the farm area and started helping out with turning the ground and replanting the things that the people have haphazardly uprooted earlier. I took care of almost half of the farming land on my own since I work faster.
I also took the job of building some storage spaces for the crops and other farming stuff for the territory. I also helped in placing back the the pens, barns and stables that they disassembled earlier so that they can settle the animals who are clearly scared and in panic from all the commotion from the very quick evacuation we did earlier.
After doing that, I replanted the fruit-bearing trees and everything else that have been dug up from the gardens including herbs. Once I was done with the farm, I went to the place where the infirmary will be built. I am the most excited for this place since I can put a lot of my patented stuff in it like the ones for alchemy and herb storage.
After working from the later part of the morning till before sunset, I can say that we were able to complete at least 60% of the workload, given that I have already worked on the walls and the mountain in the wee hours of the morning earlier. The rest of the work was done with teamwork and a bit of magical push from me. The duke’s people are just so efficient that I was surprised myself.
For a construction team that is mostly composed of humans, we are fairly productive and efficient. The people seemed to have been injected with some sort of adrenaline or energy booster. Maybe, knowing that their life can only get better from now on made all the difference on how they look at the idea of "working hard".
Eventually, I had to forcefully stop everybody from working since they are still human. I know they are excited to rebuild their territory but as mortals, their stamina can’t be compared to mine. They will need regular rest intervals and of course, food to replenish their energy. I was able to convince them to stop working a bit before sunset because they realized that they still need that bit of light to prepare dinner for the village.
After dinner, everybody went home and slept soundly with most likely a smile on their faces. It was a productive day and this territory that seemingly lost hope has finally taken its first step to getting their previous lives back. I don’t know how much my father-in-law knows about my reason for helping out but I think he is already starting to think of possibilities, even the most unlikely ones.
But sometimes, what you think was impossible is actually a reality that you have noat discovered yet.
