Invincibility Begins with Mastery of Fist Techniques-Chapter 165 - 159: In the Dark
"As the days passed, my power grew stronger and stronger. I challenged the heavens, befriended nature, blended Yin and Yang, and commanded objects with my spirit. I gradually reached the pinnacle, but there was a barrier before me that I could never cross."
"I even went searching for traces of those Aliens, hoping to gain some inspiration from them. Unfortunately, those beings were masters of concealment. Following their ancestral teachings, they were as elusive as a Divine Dragon that shows its head but never its tail. The Aliens I did find were no match for me at that time."
"I once had no fear of life or death, believing them to be mere illusions. But as my lifespan neared its end and death approached, I began to feel its oppressive weight day by day."
"I didn't fear death. I only wished to see the scenery beyond Saint Awakening."
At this, Zhang Dongwei couldn't help but sigh, his eyes filled with a profound loneliness.
Zhou Yuanjue fell silent for a moment. Zhang Dongwei's talent was extraordinary, but he had lived in the worst of times.
There was no path forward, and no one with whom he could communicate. Zhou Yuanjue could feel that sense of helplessness and sorrow.
Even Zhou Yuanjue was the same in this regard. He didn't fear powerful enemies, because the appearance of a strong foe meant he still had room to advance, that there was still a path ahead.
But back then, Zhang Dongwei faced a sheer cliff.
That was a feeling no ordinary person could possibly comprehend.
"By the time I was one hundred and forty, I had already come to terms with life and death. However, during one of my Cultivation sessions, while I was immersed in the great power of nature, I heard a voice from the void."
Zhang Dongwei said.
Zhou Yuanjue's expression flickered. A voice from the void… What kind of voice could have influenced the Zhang Dongwei of that era?
"What did the voice say?"
Zhou Yuanjue asked.
"Kunlun Ruins, Path to Immortality, Ninefold Palace, Elixir of Immortality…"
Zhang Dongwei said in a low voice.
Zhou Yuanjue frowned. It was obvious someone had deliberately lured Zhang Dongwei to Kunlun Mountain, intending to tempt him into consuming the Elixir of Immortality.
In that era, most of the Celestial Demons should have already vanished. According to Zhang Dongwei, the Spirit Guardians of that time hadn't reached their peak strength either. After all, their special Talent was to devour Celestial Demons to advance their realms. In an age when the Celestial Demons were in hiding, the upper limit of their power would have been affected.
So, what kind of existence could have influenced Zhang Dongwei?
"Was someone lurking near you at the time, transmitting a message with their spiritual will?"
Zhou Yuanjue asked Zhang Dongwei directly.
"That should be impossible. After hearing the voice, I searched the entire mountain but found no unusual traces. Besides, I could clearly sense that the voice seemed to originate from within nature's 'Qi'."
Zhang Dongwei said, shaking his head.
Zhou Yuanjue knew that the "Qi" he spoke of was, in fact, the magnetic field.
"I originally had no intention of heeding that voice. However, as my life neared its end, I couldn't resist coming to the Kunlun Ruins and finding this Immortal Palace. The Seal on the Immortal Palace was much more severe back then than it is now. I wanted to explore the upper floors of the Immortal Palace, but unfortunately, I couldn't advance past the 3rd Layer."
"I found the Elixir of Immortality on the 3rd Layer. The voice began to sound again, and it was only then that I clearly sensed the entity making the sound was right here in this Immortal Palace."
At this, Zhang Dongwei paused. He turned his head and looked toward the magnificent palace on the very top floor of the Immortal Palace.
Zhou Yuanjue's pupils contracted slightly. 'If the one making the sound was the being suppressed within this Immortal Palace… to transmit its voice over thousands of kilometers…'
'What kind of being is this?'
'I thought I had already overestimated the beings suppressed in the Immortal Palace's Sealing Realm Image, but it seems I still underestimated their abilities.'
'Can a living being's power truly reach such a level?'
'Had the Celestial Demons already begun to reawaken a thousand years ago?'
"Under the temptation of that voice, and driven by the desire to live as my end approached, I finally consumed the Elixir of Immortality. And in that very moment, I truly understood the meaning of the Elixir of Immortality."
Zhang Dongwei said, his expression calm.
"What exactly is the being inside? Where did those Aliens come from? And what is the true meaning of the Elixir of Immortality?"
Zhou Yuanjue asked.
"I originally knew nothing, but now I have some theories. Perhaps the age of myths, of which we only have fragmented legends, truly did exist."
"But as for what those things are and where they came from, I do not know. No one knows the origins of them or the beings called 'Immortal Gods' who suppressed them. Even those Aliens of special Bloodlines might not be clear about that history themselves. The history we see is not necessarily the true history. I speculate that within this Immortal Palace lies a source of those beings."
"The very being that those Demons and people of special Bloodlines call the 'Primordial Ancestor'."
Zhang Dongwei said.
"Primordial Ancestor…"
Zhou Yuanjue murmured the name.
"Do you know what the Medicinal Core of the Elixir of Immortality is?"
Zhang Dongwei said.
"What is it?"
Zhou Yuanjue asked.
"A drop of blood from a Demon's true form."
Zhang Dongwei said.
"A drop of blood?"
Zhou Yuanjue was stunned. Celestial Demons were beings of pure Spirit. They had no physical form and could only gain a material vessel by attaching themselves to a living being. Strictly speaking, it should be impossible for their true forms to have physical blood.
"Yes, a drop of blood. A Demon's true form is illusory. To condense something real from the illusory… I can't imagine what kind of realm that would be. Perhaps only those Primordial Ancestors could achieve it. In short, once they reawaken, it will be a catastrophe for the entire world. And from the looks of it, the world has never truly escaped their sight, even while they have been sealed."
"The fact that I was able to escape might mean they have reawakened even further. Perhaps, right now, a pair of eyes is in that palace, silently watching everything we do."
Zhang Dongwei said. Hearing this, a chill ran through Zhou Yuanjue's heart.
"The Elixir of Immortality holds an ulterior secret. Therefore, no one can be allowed to take it out of here."
Zhang Dongwei said, shaking his head.
"That is also the purpose of our trip."
Zhou Yuanjue nodded.
"I will help you stop the Elixir of Immortality from being taken from this Immortal Palace."
Zhang Dongwei said.
"And after that? What are your plans? Since you are from Donghua, you should come back with us to Donghua."
Zhou Yuanjue said.
"There's no going back. From the moment I swallowed the Elixir of Immortality, there was no longer a way back for me."
"I have become one of those Demons. That is an indisputable fact. I don't know what other methods they have to restrain me. Staying by your side would, in itself, be a hidden danger. I will not go back with you."
"When this matter is settled, I want to see the world, to see this era and how different it is from my own."
"This era belongs to you. I am merely a failure who stole something that was never meant to be mine."
"When I've seen enough one day, I will go alone to meet these… things… that wish to make me their slave."
Zhang Dongwei raised his head and looked toward the top floor of the Immortal Palace, his gaze exceptionally sharp.
