Invincible through Touching Corpses-Chapter 55 - 54: Beating Fear Into Them
Qiu Taifei had, of course, heard of Fang Tianhe before.
After all, Fang Tianhe was the only person in the entire Star Shield Shelter who possessed the Heaven-Splitting Superpower. Everyone who had seen it said that even among Rare Superpowers, it was one of the best.
But Qiu Taifei had always scoffed at such claims. It wasn’t as if he’d never seen other Rare Superpowers; they were all basically the same.
Fang Tianhe was only being overhyped because his Superpower was so uncommon.
However, after that brief clash, he realized the rumors were no exaggeration.
His expression instantly grew grim. He even began to wonder if he should keep trying to hold them back.
But things had already progressed to a point where the decision to continue the fight was no longer in his hands.
After their first exchange, Fang Tianhe showed no intention of stopping and immediately followed up with a kick.
Black light swirled around his leg, which was also imbued with his Heaven-Splitting Superpower.
Qiu Taifei hadn’t expected his opponent to be so relentless. His expression soured even further.
But since Fang Tianhe showed no sign of stopping, he could only raise his leg to block out of instinct.
But the moment he moved his leg, he cursed inwardly, ’This is bad.’
Their Superpowers were completely different.
The Heaven-Splitting Superpower was a manifestation of Energy that could cover any part of the body.
In other words, it enhanced every part of his body equally.
His Werewolf Transformation Superpower, however, was a Strength Type that primarily enhanced his arms. While his legs were also strengthened, the effect wasn’t nearly as pronounced.
BANG!
After their legs collided, Qiu Taifei was sent flying and slammed hard against the elevator shaft wall.
At this, nearly all the members of the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps froze. They couldn’t believe it. Their leader had been fighting his opponent to a standstill just a moment ago, so how was he sent flying in the blink of an eye?
But what shocked them even more was that even now, Fang Tianhe had no intention of stopping.
He strode forward, drew the Great Saber hanging at his waist, and slashed at Qiu Taifei as he was pinned against the wall.
"Stop!"
Qiu Taifei yelled, but Fang Tianhe acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing. The Great Saber in his hand didn’t slow in the slightest; he even imbued it with his Heaven-Splitting Superpower.
In that instant, Qiu Taifei felt the chilling threat of death. He frantically tried to parry with his Sharp Claws while desperately twisting his body to dodge.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Three of his claws snapped in succession, but the blade’s momentum was slowed just enough for Qiu Taifei to seize the opportunity and narrowly dodge aside.
BOOM!
The Great Saber slammed into the wall behind Qiu Taifei. It was a wall forged from Alloy, yet the strike left a massive gash over a meter long.
Qiu Taifei’s face turned even paler. The sheer power of that strike proved that Fang Tianhe had absolutely no intention of holding back.
’If I hadn’t been fast enough, that single strike would have killed me!’
’Doesn’t this lunatic know the consequences of publicly killing someone inside the Shelter?’ Qiu Taifei cursed inwardly.
Yes, he only dared to curse in his head. He was afraid that if he actually said it out loud, Fang Tianhe would try to kill him for real.
Qiu Taifei quickly retreated to his Mercenary Corps’ side. By now, members of both corps had drawn their weapons. The atmosphere was tense, on the verge of erupting.
No one had expected things to escalate this far.
Now, everyone’s eyes were fixed on Fang Tianhe, waiting to see his next move. Qiu Taifei was no exception.
If this escalated into an all-out battle between the two Mercenary Corps, then regardless of who won, neither side would walk away unscathed.
No sane corps leader would give such an order.
’But is Fang Tianhe sane?’
Qiu Taifei certainly didn’t think so. ’Would a sane person dare to openly try to kill someone inside the Shelter?’
Qiu Taifei wasn’t the only one in the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps thinking this. That was why, despite outnumbering their opponents, they were the more nervous party.
The members of the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps, in contrast, appeared much calmer. Though they were puzzled by Fang Tianhe’s actions, they supported him completely.
They all knew their leader. He was a calm and steady person who always planned his actions carefully. If he ever encountered something he wasn’t sure about, he would discuss it with Vice-leader Shen Han.
So they all understood that Fang Tianhe must have his reasons. All they had to do was follow his lead.
As expected, Fang Tianhe didn’t actually give the order to attack. He simply stared quietly at Qiu Taifei.
Several times, Qiu Taifei opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.
But the awkward atmosphere didn’t last long.
More than ten armed drones appeared in the sky, their dark muzzles aimed at everyone present.
Then, a squad of fully armed soldiers arrived.
"All of you, drop your weapons!" the captain in the lead shouted.
With a calm expression, Fang Tianhe sheathed his Great Saber. Seeing this, the others also put away their weapons.
"You’re all Mercenaries. Don’t you know that fighting inside the Shelter is a violation of security regulations?" the patrol captain barked.
Of course, he knew these were men who lived on the edge, so his reprimand was merely for show. He then asked, "Alright, what happened here? Why the fight? And with weapons and Superpowers, no less."
As he spoke, he glanced at the massive gash on the wall, a shiver running down his spine.
Qiu Taifei spoke first. "He used his weapon first."
Fang Tianhe retorted, "That’s because you attacked first."
"I only attacked because you charged right at me," Qiu Taifei said.
"And that’s because your Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps was blocking the entire elevator shaft," Fang Tianhe replied.
Qiu Taifei shot back, "No, we weren’t!"
And just like that, at the most critical point, Qiu Taifei denied it.
Their back-and-forth had laid out the entire sequence of events. As long as he flatly denied blocking the elevator shaft, the matter would likely be swept under the rug, with both sides receiving some form of punishment.
Of course, that wasn’t a loss for him. In fact, it meant he had succeeded in delaying the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps.
"He’s lying," Xu Haishui spoke up from the side.
"Who the hell do you think you are? A mere captain dares to slander me?" Qiu Taifei’s face instantly turned cold.
He had already lost enough face fighting Fang Tianhe. Now, even a low-ranking captain dared to contradict him. The anger in his heart flared.
"Tsk! Should I take that as you flying into a rage out of pure embarrassment?" Xu Haishui said slowly as he began operating his wrist-mounted computer.
"You know, I used to just be envious of Lin Xinghai’s talent. But after what happened between him and the Axe Gang today, I learned he’s got a real system for handling things. For example, his habit of recording everything to preserve evidence... that’s something worth learning from."
"So, you were saying I’m slandering you? Let’s see if you still have the guts to say that after we watch this recording."
