Isekaied Into An Eroge, Time To Have Fun!-Chapter 212: On The Grind (2)
My thumb brushed against my cheek as I pulled the bowstring back again, but this time there wasn’t just a normal arrow ready to fly; spiraling around the simple projectile was a storm of flames, and the ice monster in front of me wasn’t prepared whatsoever for this.
A white furred wolf with gigantic tusks of ice leapt at me, yet all that did was make it all the easier to hit it as it closed the distance between us while not being able to maneuver whatsoever; the arrow shrieked out of the bow and plunged deep into the wolf’s neck, killing it immediately and allowing the flames to wash over it.
Sidestepping away from its path, I just barely avoided the hot corpse of the now charred wolf, filling myself with pride since the monster had been quite large and clearly rather dangerous; it was almost eight feet long and stood at about half of that, making it a rather stretched out predator that was ’made’ for leaping.
The giant paws that sported hooked claws added to the fact that it was a vicious killer since those would allow it to catch itself onto its prey and remain on them even as they struggled, which in turn allowed the razor sharp fangs and tusks to tear through armor and flesh with ease.
This had been the leader of the pack that had surprised us, and all around me the others were dealing with the remaining wolves, all of whom had felt their pack leader die just a moment ago, giving my companions openings as the wolves stumbled.
We had been caught off guard yet we prevailed with relative ease, so even though my heart was pounding against my chest and my mind was racing, the surplus of adrenaline felt like electricity in my veins, and that was addicting.
Since we were so close to our ’base’ we made use of this adrenaline to drag the corpses back, and immediately we all grabbed our knives and got to work claiming our prizes, spilling a large amount of blood in the process.
That obviously attracted a few more predators to our ’doorstep’, but this time we were prepared to face them, setting us into another battle against a trio of long furred Yeti’s of some kind that had giant icicles in their hands.
With that we had gotten one hell of a haul already, but the blood and the sounds of battle had lured more than just monsters over; immediately we were on our guard when five well armed and armored adventurers crested the hill nearby, staring at us from afar before making their way over.
Another arrow on the string infused with magic acted as a bit of a visual warning, as did the shifting of our frontliners as they turned to face the newcomers; to their credit the adventurers all sheathed their weapons and raised their hands, placating us a little and making things far less tense.
"Easy now, we just... wanted to come and ask if y’all are willing to trade a few things, hm? Two of my girls here make use of Yeti fur for their gear, and the tendons make very good bowstring and bindings for stronger metals."
At the front of the group of five was a tall, lean black skinned Pantherkin, her piercing green eyes not matching the gentle smile on her plump lips as she looked us over; on either side of her were shorter yet just as lean twin Catkin, their milky white skin contrasting hers while their mismatched blue and brown eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Then there was a beefy Bearkin with an arrogant grin and a slender Aviankin of some kind that was leaning on a staff, keeping it firmly pressed against the ground as a way to ’sheath’ the magical tool; all of them had scars, were covered in grime and looked rather ’well battled’, but that didn’t mean I was going to let my guard down.
"What do you have?"
"For one we have some gemstones that we keep on hand for this very reason. Rubies, emeralds, sapphires... that sort of thing. We also have a few rare herbs, some bones, and a tincture of a melted Ice Golem."
I kept my gaze straight ahead yet noted how Sera perked up at that, while Anwen laughed and said "Ain’t no fucking way you got a melted Ice Golem~! Pull it out, lemme see!", causing the Bearkin and Aviankin to frown while the twins hissed softly.
"Of course. You can see it from there, no?"
The Pantherkin fished out a vial of glowing cyan liquid, sloshing it around and showing it to us before safely stowing it in her thick leather coat again, which in doing so revealed a large array of knives strapped to her torso.
"Believe me now?"
Sera nodded while Anwen laughed again, clapping her hands like this was rather amusing and causing me to raise a brow as I looked between them all; a melted Ice Golem meant they took the Core out of the monster and melted it down, capturing most of that pure, very potent mana and storing it for later use.
It was an extremely valuable ingredient, and while I wouldn’t go so far as to trade it for some Yeti parts I knew that the value of some ingredients depended on what was needed, and if those twins used Yeti fur for their gear it made their current price ’rise’.
Yeti were a rare type of ice enhanced monsters that tended to be a little harder to track since they had a tendency for just... slipping below the snow and sleeping, so finding them was hard; fighting was easy since they were weak to piercing and fire, but you also needed to put out a lot of damage to kill them.
We had that damage when we outnumbered them so it wasn’t that bad, and likely these adventurers were tracking them down in hopes of getting these parts... but we got them first, making the parts ours to do with as we pleased.
"What do you want for the melted Ice Golem?"
