Chapter 14 - Extreme Training, Soul Bond

Fssss~

Just two seconds after the fruit went down Alfred's throat, a sparkling green and blue mist released from Alfred's body.

Alfred whimpered as biting pain spread in his body, but behind him, John began freezing rapidly and was soon encased in ice with vein patterns and flower buds growing over it.

If this continued, he could die.

However, John used Storm Barrier in a controlled manner, making the storm thin and laying it out from within the ice, creating an empty layer between him and the ice with the storm protecting it.

This was John's situation just from aura, so what Alfred was experiencing was way more than that.

The conflicting attribute was ravaging his body as Alfred winced on the ground, his claws dug into the ground.

'You can do it, buddy. Keep your blood raging and your mind active. Don't let the energy win and instead, force it into hiding within your body.'

The energy of the fruit was directly harming Alfred's foundation like blood and body cells, but as long as Alfred resisted and stayed conscious, his own power would fight against it and heal his foundation.

As this situation occurred, Max and Maxon felt the coldness and commotion.

"Idiot..." Yuna muttered. She wanted to use Sun Fox to light up a fire, but she observed John's vital signs with her Heat Vision skill belonging to Sun Fox, allowing her to detect heat signs through thick obstacles.

'He is keeping himself barely alive to maintain activation of that skill perpetually with recovery?' Yuna's teeth chattered before she snapped. "Are you mad?! Stop with this bullshit, John."

"What's going on? what's going on?" Max arrived jumping with bruises all over his body.

John was already in a focused state, barely alive.

Yuna told Max about what happened, and the two could only watch. Yuna couldn't keep her Heat Vision activated as she consumed her soul energy after four minutes of trying to keep it activated.

"Damn, how is he recovering this fast despite being in such a condition? He is actually meditating..."

"This guy is mad," Max mumbled.

Meanwhile, the internal war within Alfred served to increase Alfred's stats as he continued to resist, forcing the energy of the fruit out of his foundation. A total of five minutes passed before the energy was forced to be stored within Alfred's soul sea after Alfred expelled it from his body completely.

John opened his eyes and snapped out of the state of focused meditation that he was in to reduce the consumption of soul energy for the skill while increasing soul energy recovery.

"Woof! Woof!"

Alfred got up and started licking the ice after coating it with soul energy that transformed into sharp, tiny blood spikes of Blood attribute, shredding the ice easily.

"Wait, what? Did that dog just manipulate Blood?" Max's jaw dropped.

Yuna's eyes also widened. "This bastard... he awakened his freaking quirk!"

John remained calm and commanded Alfred to get away from him.

Alfred backstopped, and John's aura surged before a large storm flickered into existence, covering him entirely for one second before vanishing, creating a rain of micro-icy sparks.

Looking at Alfred's status, John couldn't help but smile. "Great job, buddy."

"Awooo!"

However, he soon felt two intense gazes on him and saw Yuna and Max staring with blazing eyes at him.

"What the hell did you do?"

"Exactly, just what kind of magic did you pull off?!"

John laughed as he ruffled Alfred's head, who sat comfortably beside him in a snuggle.

"It's not magic, but a game of danger that only a trusted partner can play," John smiled and explained. "You see... Alfred eating that fruit would trigger survival instincts, and with me keeping my boy fired up, he resisted the fruit's energy that was harming his foundation."

"This could result in death as well, but can also be used as rapid training. Alfred succeeded and even awakened a Quirk in the process while increasing his stats. This is killing multiple birds with one stone, haha."

"..."

"..."

"Damn, is that really possible?" Max scratched his head.

"Bullfrog's butt! It's not possible!" Yuna's cheeks puffed up. "And why did you have to freeze yourself and even maintain a half-death state? Like, are you mental?"

"Why? Of course, it's to suffer with Alfred," John grinned. "My boy gets strong for me, but he has to suffer pain? Nope, not alone. And you know...your soul blooms more brightly when it is with someone dear, and if that someone is in trouble."

John looked at Alfred as the old Alfred, a charming husky, overlapped with this dog, all bloody and injured, while he was also dripping blood with Alfred on his lap, cornered in a broken shack under heavy rain.

John was ten and Alfred was two years old. Two years prior, the orphanage he lived in was shut down, and the transfer wasn't processed for three kids, with him being one of them.

Since then, he lived on the streets and found baby Alfred shortly, who seemed lost and crying.

Two years later, they were living under a river bridge, with more trash than greenery in the surroundings.

One day, heavy rain and a storm caused a flood, and both of them fought for their lives together with everything and survived.

If the rescue teams searching for lost and injured people didn't find them at that time, both of them would have died. Still, they lived only because they fought for their survival while protecting each other.

From then on, John began to believe not in gods but in the power of bonds between souls because of the bond he had with Alfred.

"Anyway," John snapped out of his reverie and smiled. "You two love your pets and treasure them, but unless you think you can give your life for them, don't do what I've done. Wait, even if you can give your life, you have to know your limits."

'I already have trained mental fortitude, but you two aren't there yet,' John wryly smiled.

Max and Yuna's backs hunched, their expressions at a loss.

"Fuck, you're a monster," Max said in the end and stood up before summoning Maxon. "I am going to spar with my bro."

"I am going to go out and train my newly captured Silverwind Eagle to Prime stage," Yuna stood up, her vibe becoming slightly somber. Looking at John, she said, "After that, we'll cross-breed our Eagles."

"Yep," John smiled and summoned Pymon before commanding him. "Go and stay with her and gather some fruits for us. You can also hunt Monsters, but listen to Yuna."

"This way, both Eagles will get to know each other, and Pymon can also train more to increase his Gene Potential while also becoming a carry bag at the end to bring fruits for us. I am kind of hungry."

"Good idea," Yuna smiled. "Alright, we'll be back in an hour."
