"This is the contract for our agreement," Maitreya said as she summoned a scroll to hand to them.
"Is this necessary? We trust you," Wu Hong said.
"And for that, I’m grateful, but it’s best that we separate business and friendship."
"Alright." Wu Hong read the Existence Contract and was surprised. She signed it before handing it to Wang Wei, who was intrigued why she had such a reaction. The answer was the consequences of breaking the contract. If Maitreyas fails to repay them, she will lose 3 of her foundation pillars.
’Is she teaching us how to make contracts with Primordial Saints?’ Wang Wei thought. From this contract, Wang Wei now knows how to deal with these transcendent beings — how to affect them in a way that hurts. So, he signed his name with a smile on his face.
"One more thing," Maitreya said as the binding contract entered her body. She looked at Wang Wei: "There are things we must do because of the greater good — even if we don’t like the people involved."
"Huh? What does that mean?"
"Just remember my words," Maitreya sighed.
Wang Wei frowned briefly before nodding. The three did not talk for long before ending the meeting. As they walked out of Buddhism’s mansion, Wu Hong asked:
"What was that about?"
"I don’t know exactly, but I have an ominous feeling," Wang Wei replied. He had an idea, but he was hoping that he was wrong. "Let’s not talk about this. Do you have a strategy on how to utilize the exchange list?"
"Our initial decision is to focus on increasing my strength so I can sanctify as soon as possible. But now, I’ll be focusing on increasing my foundation."
"Our sect is doing the opposite. They are sucking everybody’s dry to get one of the Transcendent Heaven Will."
"That would explain your little condition," Wu Hong gave him a nasty side-glance.
"They knew what kind of person I was, and they still suggested such a thing. They can’t blame me. Plus, I will also contribute in other ways," Wang Wei answers before telling her about his underground market.
"If there is one thing I can count on you for, it’s that you will always find a way to make your money," Wu Hong shook her head.
"I have a method for you. Do you want to hear it?"
"Oh?"
"The [Transcendent Heaven Will] will probably only allow for a one-pillar foundation. However, if you can make that array to help people condense a flawed Dao Quintessence, you may ask a hefty price to let the sect use it. It should be enough to raise the foundation to three pillars.
"Wait, I just thought of Maitreya. Maybe it can help her reach 8 or 9 pillars. This array—no, your existence itself—has changed the game." Wang Wei has shining eyes, thinking how much money they could make by offering people a way to improve their foundation.
"You talked as if the array is already built, or that it guarantees success."
"True, but we can still charge a hefty price as long as we warn people there is no guaranteed success. No, forget it. The ability to have a flawed Dao Quintessence means a higher chance of becoming a Grand Dao Saint. Who knows how many people will go to extreme lengths for such an opportunity, so it’s best to hide that you have such an ability."
"While I appreciate your concerns, it’s still a good idea to use it for the people close to us."
"Are you sure?" Wang Wei asked. He would prefer if she hid such an ability forever.
"Yes, who knew you cared more about me than making money?" Wu Hong nudged him playfully.
"My lady, all the wealth in the Chaos Universe is not worth a single pinky of your toes," Wang Wei replied as he held her in his arms.
"I can’t tell whether you’re being romantic or if this kind of talk is a result of your feet kink."
"Maybe both," Wang Wei said before initiating a passionate kiss.
"Ahem."
The two stopped to look at the random monk passing by. "Donors, this is still a place of Buddhism. Please be respectful."
"Sorry about that," Wang Wei said as he separated from her. The monk nodded before walking away.
"This is all your fault."
"How is it my fault?" Wang Wei asked.
"You’re the one who distracted me. This is so embarrassing."
"You don’t look embarrass," Wang Wei replied. "Instead, you look like you’re enjoying yourself."
Wu Hong snorted coldly while waving her hand. "I despise what you’re insinuating." She walked away with great strides. Wang Wei laughed and tried to catch her, but she was too fast and disappeared after a few steps. So, Wang Wei returned to the sect with a large grin on his face.
As soon as he returned, he told everybody about the meeting and the foundation pillars. After bringing this news, Wang Wei successfully convinced Wang Bo to accept the Heaven Will Path. With Wu Hong’s method and using the universal method after he becomes a Primordial Chaos Saint, Wang Bo might achieve a four-pillar foundation — which is probably the level he would reach on his own with a proper transcendent method.
...
The Dao Opening Sect was not the only faction with an emergency meeting after Heavenly Dao revealed the scrolls and pillars. No faction had any rest that night as they strategized for their future.
Qin Saint Court Royal Palace:
Ying Zheng finished his meeting and waited until the middle of the night before sneaking out, heading directly to the Grand Sect Alliance’s headquarters. He was extremely sneaky, only allowing Dugu Baitian to detect his presence.
"Ying Zheng, what do you want?" Dugu Baitian asked, standing straight with his arms crossed. He did not invite Ying Zheng to sit down, offer him tea, or show any hospitality.
Ying Zheng did not say anything, just staring for a few seconds. These two were dressed in a similar fashion, wearing black clothes with dragon symbolism. The only difference was that the dragons were on Dugu Baitian’s cuffs, signifying that even such noble creatures would be suppressed under his palm. While Ying Zheng’s dragons were on his clothes, a sign that he considered himself one of the noblest creatures between Heaven and Earth.
"The rumors were true, weren’t they?" Ying Zheng asked.
"What are you talking about?"
"That Heavenly Dao despised your alliance."
"Did you come here to spit this nonsense?"
"Nonsense?" Ying Zheng smiled. "You spent all your time here rallying people to pressure the Dao Opening Sect to reveal their exchange list. But right before the meeting, Heavenly Dao makes it public. Coincidence? I think no one would believe that."
"People like you who use Luck Dao always preach the nonsense that there is no such thing as a coincidence," Dugu Baitian sneered. "The Chaos Universe is vast, and statistical anomalies happen all the time."
"I know even you don’t believe what you’re saying, but let’s say you were right," Ying Zheng continued calmly. "What about that little mouse, Kong? Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed that his academy’s destiny and prosperity are linked to the demise of your alliance? Isn’t that a clear sign that Heavenly Dao despises your existence?"
Dugu Baitian stared at him, his demeanor calm and composed, but only on the surface.
"Long ago, during the Golden Era, I predicted the birth of 9 Primal factions since the number symbolizes extremes. I also predicted three factions above them — three transcendent factions — since twelve represented perfection.
"However, my prediction became useless because of you. You escaped your destined fate when you betrayed your allies during the First Origin War and decided to preserve yourself. You successfully gathered the luck and destiny of numerous factions that were destined to perish in that way, solidifying your status as one of the Overlords.
"However, your existence was an anomaly, one that Heavenly Dao had to change its entire plan to accommodate your existence. By your look, it seems you don’t believe me?" Ying Zheng smiled.
Dugu Baitian did not answer, but that was an answer of its own.
"Haven’t you wondered why you were so unlucky during the Second War? No matter how you tried to play puppet master and used this war to weaken the Dao Opening Sect, your plans would backfire, resulting in your sect facing considerable danger.
"In fact, overall, as a faction, you guys contributed the most to the war, but your reward was the least. Do you think it was an accident? No, Heavenly Dao wanted you to make up for all the destiny and luck she had to compensate for creating a world pattern of 13 Overlords.
"I must admit, I, and everyone else, should thank you. Based on my calculation, there will now be seven transcendent factions instead of 3. And we owe everything to you."
"Ying Zheng, why are you here?" Dugu Baitian asked calmly.
"I’m here because we can help each other out," Ying Zheng smiled.
