Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 605 - 604: The Shopkeeper with Gleaming Eyes
"We didn’t come up with any good solution, so we just dug a pit, and then placed a piece of rotten meat inside it. These creatures really like to eat rotten meat, so once they all crawled into the pit, Tian Peng and I used a Magic Artifact to burn them to death,"
That area is a village, and since the nature of these creatures wasn’t understood, it’s not unreasonable to deal with them in such a way.
Chen Nuo nodded, "With that method, how many of the Strange Insects are left?"
"Still a lot," Sun Wukong and Tian Peng looked at each other, then sighed, "The Strange Insects don’t crawl very fast, and we deduced that they could spread to several villages. It’s likely that they’ve already overrun a hundred-mile radius. It’s simply not something that can be dealt with in a day or two."
"Since they are Strange Insects and have already overrun the area, naturally it’s not something that can be resolved in a day or two. Don’t be disheartened," Chen Nuo comforted, "Take more time, and you’ll definitely be able to deal with them."
There’s no other way for now, we have to do it this way. Tian Peng sighed; he was truly tired after a whole day’s work, "Shopkeeper, Mr. Monkey, I’m going to rest. A mortal’s body really can’t take much. It’s only been a day, and I already feel tired."
Chen Nuo nodded, waving Tian Peng off, "Go ahead, you can’t rush these things, and you don’t have to push yourself so hard."
"Understood, Shopkeeper," Tian Peng agreed, and turned to leave.
As Tian Peng turned around, Chen Nuo spotted something clamped onto the hem of his clothes.
It looked very familiar, and also very much like the creature described by Sun Wukong. Chen Nuo moved closer to pick up the thing on Tian Peng’s back and examined it.
"What’s up Shopkeeper, is there something on my back?" Tian Peng felt Chen Nuo take something from behind him, immediately turned around, curious to see what it was, "Ah! It’s these creatures!"
Chen Nuo got such a fright from Tian Peng’s shout that he nearly dropped the thing in his hand, "What’s with the fuss?"
"It’s these creatures!" Tian Peng said, "I really didn’t expect to have brought one along on me. The whole village over there is infested with these things. I can’t stand it, I feel nauseous at the sight of these creatures."
"You’re scared of these creatures?" Chen Nuo asked.
"I’m not scared."
There’s nothing to be afraid of with just one Strange Insect. Tian Peng didn’t find it scary alone, but the true terror of these creatures was in their numbers, "You haven’t seen it, the hills and fields are swarming with them, just the sight is frightening."
"Is it really that scary?" Chen Nuo examined the creature in his hand that they called a Strange Insect.
This is clearly a crawfish. Hills and fields full of crawfish could be a treasure trove for making a fortune, couldn’t it?
How could the sight of this creature be frightening? What were they seeing?
"It really is very scary!" Tian Peng insisted with certainty, "Shopkeeper, you haven’t seen it. If you had..."
"Then take me to see it," Chen Nuo said.
"Ah?" Tian Peng was cut off before he could finish speaking.
He couldn’t quite believe what Chen Nuo had said until Chen Nuo repeated himself, and then he understood, "Shopkeeper, you... you really want to see it? I advise you not to."
"What’s the matter?" Chen Nuo asked.
It had been a long time since he had explored new dishes, and although the few he had were enough, Chen Nuo was dissatisfied with the status quo.
He was somewhat tired of making the same dishes over and over and thought it was about time to explore something new.
Perfect timing, he hadn’t even thought about what to make, and it had come to him.
"Well, it’s just that..."
Tian Peng originally wanted to describe to Chen Nuo just how disgusting it was, but then he thought, if one didn’t see it with one’s own eyes, they probably couldn’t grasp the extent of it.
Since the shopkeeper was willing to look, he might as well let the shopkeeper see for himself; after all, it was nothing more than dirtying one’s eyes a bit, no big deal.
"Master, shall we go take a look now?" Sun Wukong asked.
Chen Nuo nodded, "Let’s go, right now."
After saying this, Chen Nuo led Sun Wukong and Tian Peng straight to the village, where they saw the Strange Insects, which Tian Peng had been calling disgusting, and the large pit where they had been burning them.
"The pit is this big, you used it all for burning the crawfish?" Chen Nuo inquired.
"Exactly, we even thought the pit wasn’t big enough. We’ve burnt them two or three times, but instead of decreasing, the insects seemed to multiply," Tian Peng replied.
Even now, the pit was filled with insects, and some that fell in could even crawl out.
Tian Peng and Sun Wukong witnessed such a scene with goosebumps all over and their scalps tingling.
In contrast, Chen Nuo’s eyes lit up as if a mortal had seen gold.
"There are still so many left," Chen Nuo exclaimed excitedly.
"There are still so many left," Tian Peng and Sun Wukong said in a tone of utter despair.
Considering that Tian Peng was very tired, Chen Nuo didn’t insist on keeping him and let him go back to sleep.
He then took out a basket, ready to collect the rampant crawfish scattered on the ground.
Sun Wukong noticed Chen Nuo’s actions and paused, "Master, what are you going to do with that? You’re not thinking of taking them with us, are you? What do you need that for?"
"We’re taking them home," Chen Nuo said as he began to work.
As Sun Wukong watched Chen Nuo’s movements, he hesitated for a long time, his pupils almost shook with shock, and quickly asked, "But Master, what are you going to do with them once we get back? Please don’t tell me you’re planning to eat them."
"That’s exactly what we’re going to do - eat them," Chen Nuo replied, "Why, are you scared of them, just like Tian Peng?"
"Nope, I am not afraid at all. I am not that fool!" Hearing what Chen Nuo said, Sun Wukong promptly denied.
Chen Nuo laughed, Sun Wukong’s tone was so obvious; he could tell that Sun Wukong was just as scared as Tian Peng.
But it made sense, if you hadn’t seen something like this before, you would surely be scared upon encountering it.
Many legs, lots of them, with pincers, eating rotten flesh - hearing any of these characteristics could make one recoil, let alone considering eating them.
"These taste incredibly good, you’ve truly missed out," Chen Nuo continued, despite knowing Wukong was scared, "Not only is the flavor excellent, but there are also so many ways to cook them. I’ll make some when we get back, and you’ll taste them. Who knows, they might become the best-selling dish in our restaurant."
Upon hearing Chen Nuo mention he would have to try them, Sun Wukong quickly turned to look at him, "Master, you can’t be serious, you actually want me to eat them?"
"What’s with that tone?" Chen Nuo said amusedly as he looked at him, continuing to fill the basket with crawfish while talking to Sun Wukong.
Luckily, the feng shui of this place was good, which resulted in particularly plump crawfish.
Surrounded by green mountains and clear waters, the environment was excellent, without the fear of parasites. Aside from farmed varieties, they were so much better than the modern ones found in filthy ditches.
"I, actually, it’s okay if you don’t let me try," Sun Wukong said.
