Journey to the West: Tang Monk Conquers Everything-Chapter 633: Guanyin Demon Possession
Maitreya Buddha, with the Calamity Book of the Westward Pilgrims in hand, quietly flipped through the pages, each and every trial was reflected in Maitreya Buddha's gaze.
Soon, his gaze settled on the last trial.
The thirty-second calamity: the ordeal of Qiongqi.
"Eighty-one trials, and we're only on the thirty-second? It seems that careful planning is indeed necessary!" Maitreya Buddha's eyes twinkled several times, and he murmured softly.
In the midst of speaking, his gaze drifted off into the distance, as if crossing the bounds of time and space.
"Xuanzang, as a man of destiny, has a cultivation level that's nearing the Taiyi Realm, and the cultivation levels of Sun Wukong and the others are not weak either. The thirty-first calamity was the Drought Fiend Calamity, from which one can see that even usual opponents in the Taiyi Realm may not pose a threat to them any longer, can they?" Maitreya Buddha calculated softly, and then the corners of his mouth rose slightly.
If one were to speak of a suitable candidate for the calamity, isn't there a ready-made target right now?
Bodhisattva Guanyin!
Although she holds only the title of Bodhisattva, she possesses the cultivation level of the Great Luo Realm and, most importantly, has a deep-seated grudge with the team of the Journey to the West for Scriptures.
And in the Illusionary Demon Cave, it seems her inner conflict has already transformed into a Heart Demon? If well calculated, wouldn't she be the most suitable candidate for the trial?
Besides, Bodhisattva Guanyin and Tathagata are allies, and she is Tathagata's right-hand assistant. If Guanyin were to take on this calamity, it would also weaken Tathagata's power to a certain extent, wouldn't it?
Moreover, I'm currently in charge of coordinating the grand affair of the Journey to the West, even though officially, I'm only a temporary stand-in.
If even Bodhisattva Guanyin takes on the calamity, then won't all the merit of this Journey to the West for Scriptures fall into my hands in the end?
"Amitabha Buddha..."
After pondering for a long time, Maitreya Buddha felt more and more that this matter was worth undertaking, and he whispered the Buddha's name softly, "For the prosperity of the entire Buddhist Sect, Guanyin Bodhisattva's necessary sacrifice is worth it, and I believe she herself will understand, won't she!?"
...
Huh hu, huh hu.
Within the Illusionary Demon Cave, Bodhisattva Guanyin had been shut away in the cave for a very long time without realizing it.
In the Illusionary Demon Cave, where no daylight reaches, one cannot sense the passage of time. Once again, having escaped an attack from the Heart Demon Zhu Bajie, Guanyin felt exhausted in both body and soul.
"Two years' time, how much longer is there? Perhaps, about half of it should have passed already?" Feeling utterly spent, Guanyin murmured to herself.
An exotic fragrance suddenly filled the air, causing Guanyin involuntarily to twitch her nose.
Already weary in both body and soul, Guanyin felt her eyelids grow heavy as lead, and soon she closed her eyes and deeply fell asleep.
"Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva?"
Having no idea how much time had passed, it seemed she had fallen asleep or perhaps had just dozed off — in a daze, Guanyin heard a familiar voice.
That voice jolted Guanyin awake, causing her to suddenly open her eyes.
In front of her, Zhu Bajie appeared out of nowhere, and at that moment, he was staring at her with shining eyes.
And he was reaching out both hands towards her.
"Don't come any closer!" Panic-stricken, Guanyin called out loudly.
With Guanyin's shout, the Willow Branch from the Jade Clean Bottle flew straight toward Zhu Bajie and bound him.
Strangely enough, Zhu Bajie's cultivation level was usually higher than Guanyin's, but this time, his cultivation level was not so high and he was easily subdued by Guanyin.
Yet, instead of feeling surprised that she subdued Zhu Bajie so easily, Guanyin felt it was even more real.
Isn't the true Zhu Bajie just like this?
"I'm going to kill you!"
Staring hatefully at Zhu Bajie in front of her, Guanyin spoke, her eyes ice-cold. The resentment built up over so long seemed to have found an outlet in this moment.
"Bodhisattva, have mercy, have mercy! Your disciple will not dare again..." Subdued by Guanyin, and seeing her intent to kill him, Zhu Bajie pleaded for mercy urgently.
However, Guanyin did not pay any heed to his pleas, her expression resolute.
"Amitabha Buddha, Great Bodhisattva Guanyin, Bajie is one of the Westward Pilgrims, and must not be killed at all costs!" At that moment, with dazzling Buddhist Light, Tathagata appeared, unexpectedly showing up and standing in front of Guanyin.
Despite Tathagata's intervention, Guanyin seemed to pay him no mind.
Suddenly, a knife appeared in her hand, and with an unyielding facial expression, she raised her hand towards Zhu Bajie.
"Great Bodhisattva Guanyin..."
Seeing that Guanyin seemed to have made up her mind to kill Zhu Bajie, Tathagata's expression changed slightly, and he quickly spread his arms, blocking her way.
Thrust!
Buddha Blood splattered as Guanyin watched the knife in her hand stabbing directly into Tathagata's chest.
"Ah!" Inside the Illusionary Demon Cave, a sudden cry of alarm from Guanyin resounded, and then she opened her eyes.
What Zhu Bajie, what Tathagata? All had vanished.
In the Illusionary Demon Cave, all was still.
"Just now, did I dream? I was so scared, I actually attacked Buddha!" Glancing around, Tathagata and Zhu Bajie had both disappeared without a trace, Bodhisattva feeling a wave of fright, murmured to herself in relief.
At the same time, she felt somewhat fortunate, thankful that it had all been a dream.
For many people, waking from a nightmare, the first feeling is one of relief, thankful that it was all just a dream!
And that was precisely the current mood of the Bodhisattva!
However, beyond the relief, Bodhisattva felt an unusual sense of exhilaration deep inside her.
Even if Tathagata wanted to stop her from slaying Zhu Bajie, he couldn't, and the events that unfolded in the dream made Bodhisattva's heart surge with satisfaction.
"Hmm? Wait, that's not right, there's demonic qi..."
However, just at that moment, Bodhisattva's heart suddenly stirred, sensing the presence of Demonic Qi.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
At the mouth of the Illusionary Demon Cave, two Vajra guardians stood watch, nodding off to sleep.
The strength of the two Vajra was, of course, not formidable; their role was simply to act as eyes.
For one, to prevent anyone from casually approaching the Illusionary Demon Cave and, secondly, to monitor that no one within the cave left without permission.
But, just when these two Vajra were drowsy, suddenly, it seemed as though thunder rumbled in the sky, and at the same time, thick dark clouds appeared from nowhere, hovering over the Illusionary Demon Cave.
The clouds took on a spiral shape, with constant rumbling thunder, giving off waves of malevolent and ominous energy that lingered within.
The two Vajra at the cave entrance were naturally jolted awake and, looking up at the strange phenomena in the sky, their faces turned pale with shock.
"This, this demonic qi is terrifying, could it be? That a supreme demon has appeared?" Watching the strange scene above the Illusionary Demon Cave and feeling the intense outburst of horrifying demonic qi, the two Vajra cried out in disbelief.
Tap, tap, tap!
Just then, suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed, drawing the attention of the two Vajra.

They followed the sound and saw a figure emerging from the Illusionary Demon Cave, becoming clearer with each step.
"Bodhisattva, please stop, Buddha's decree states that you must reflect upon your actions within the Illusionary Demon Cave for two... two... two years..."
The two Vajra began to speak, reminding Bodhisattva that she was not yet permitted to leave since two years had not passed, but as they got a clear view of her, they found themselves unable to continue their words.
The two Vajra, as if witnessing something beyond belief, eyes wide as saucers.
They saw Bodhisattva step by step walking out, appearing unchanged by appearances, yet the aura emanating from her was totally different.
First off, the ordinarily compassionate and merciful aura of the Bodhisattva was gone.
Instead, there was a sense of sternness and foreboding.
Most terrifyingly, the black-as-ink demonic qi, concentrated and unyielding, enveloped Bodhisattva completely.
"Bodhisattva, you, you..." The two Vajra looked on in horror at the approaching Bodhisattva, in disbelief.
Bodhisattva... had become possessed by a demon!?
Having emerged from the Illusionary Demon Cave, Bodhisattva ignored the words of the two Vajra, simply taking a deep breath and looking up at the sky.
The sensation of freedom was invigorating, as though a shackle upon her had been unlocked.
After taking a deep breath of freedom, Bodhisattva's gaze turned back to the two Vajra by her side.
"I am not allowed to leave? Well, now I have left. What will you do?" Bodhisattva said calmly, looking at the two Vajra.
Though her voice was calm, paired with her demonically enveloped appearance, it caused the two Vajra to step back in alarm.
"So it seems, you only bully the kind and fear the wicked, don't you?" Seeing the two Vajra too shocked to speak, Bodhisattva's eyebrows slightly raised.
"Bodhisattva... we..."
The two Vajra, their expressions panic-stricken, began to speak, wanting to plead for mercy.
But before they could say anything, Bodhisattva raised her hand and struck the two Vajra.
Ah!
A cry of terror escaped the mouths of the two Vajra, and immediately, numerous fissures appeared on their bodies, black demonic qi leaking from these cracks.
In just a moment, the bodies of the two Vajra dissipated under the demonic qi, turning to ash.
After effortlessly dispatching the two Vajra with a wave of her hand, Bodhisattva felt a great surge of satisfaction, but still felt as if a heavy stone weighed upon her heart.
If there was a stone weighing on her heart, then naturally, it needed to be moved aside!
Bodhisattva's gaze turned towards the distance, murmuring lowly, "Zhu Bajie, huh!?"
