Chapter 985: Chapter 985: Turmoil Approaches: Sisi on the Brink of Life and Death (Part 3)
“No! Sisi!”
In a life-and-death moment, Di Yelei’s eyes widened. He lunged forward with all his might and directly wrapped his arms around Liu Sisi’s waist.
Xing Pan’er, with a face full of malice, picked up the short blade in her hand and stabbed down… right into Di Yelei’s chest!
“Ugh!”
Di Yelei grunted, and with a backhanded palm strike, he sent Xing Pan’er flying far away. His body also swayed, nearly collapsing onto the ground.
Liu Sisi’s heart tightened with anxiety, and she hurried to support him.
“Ye Lei! Ye Lei, how are you? Ye Lei…”
How deep the short blade had stabbed was unknown, but fresh blood kept pouring out. Liu Sisi quickly reached out to cover it, but couldn’t stop the flow. A sharp pain spread through her heart as he always came to her rescue in the most critical moments, regardless of his own safety.
“Ye Lei, don’t panic, wait for me to save you. I’ll save…” In a fluster, she tore a strip of cloth from the hem of her clothing and wound it tightly around the wound.
Di Yelei, barely standing by the cabin’s edge, laughed at Liu Sisi’s anxiousness.
“Sisi, you’re willing to talk to me now? That’s great… Sisi, Sisi!”
He laughed heartily.
Liu Sisi rolled her eyes at him, “You wish! Don’t think you can buy me off like this!”
If he hadn’t said that, the anger in Liu Sisi’s heart might have subsided somewhat, but as soon as he mentioned it, her anger surged anew.
Out of embarrassed fury, she slapped his wounded chest, causing Di Yelei to grimace in pain.
“Sisi, listen to my explanation…”
While the two shared a tender moment, everyone else was not so fortunate.
Xing Pan’er, struck away by Di Yelei, vomited blood, evidently seriously injured.
Meanwhile, everyone else had lunged towards the location of the flint, watching as the cardboard box was about to catch fire completely. Fortunately, with combined efforts, several people rolled on top of it, finally putting the flames out.
Rather than caring about this, she suddenly burst into laughter, “It’s too late! Did you think it’s all over just by extinguishing the firestarter in my hand? Let me tell you, there are ropes under these cardboard boxes leading to the upper level of the cabin. There, I had already arranged for my people to guard. By now, they should have ignited the black gunpowder there. None of you here will escape! Not a single one!”
Her words instantly changed everyone’s expression!
Even Di Yelei, who had just finished bandaging his wound, had a drastic change of color!
Before everyone could think of a solution, a series of loud explosions suddenly rang out above, followed by the cargo ship starting to tilt noticeably.
“Not good! The cargo ship is sinking, run for it!”
No one knew who suddenly shouted, but people scattered in all directions, no longer caring for anything else.
Di Yelei was no exception!
“Go! Sisi, hurry!”
Even as he fled, he did not forget to take her with him.
Liu Sisi instinctively looked back, her eyes flashing a complex emotion as she saw Xing Pan’er still left behind.
Strictly speaking, there were many connections between her and herself, and she was even her sister-in-law. Yet fate loved to make a joke out of people; two individuals so familiar with each other had ended up like this.
The sound of Xing Pan’er’s maniacal laughter came from behind, but no one reached out a hand to her.

Liu Sisi closed her eyes and when she reopened them, clarity had once again returned to her vision. She was no savior, nor was she magnanimous enough to forgive someone who had tried to kill her without holding a grudge.
The cargo ship was continuously tilting, and the sound of explosions was still incessantly coming.
Di Yelei’s complexion had turned deathly pale as he dragged Liu Sisi, sprinting through the firelight.
It seemed that his abdominal wound had split open, but he could not care less about it. The instinct to survive made him turn back, scoop up Liu Sisi onto his shoulder, and sprint for their lives.
This was a race against the King of Hell!
“Quick, quicker! Lord Marquis, please hurry up!”
The massive waves and fierce winds caused by the explosions had already toppled the small boats anchored nearby. Da Niu, who had finally stabilized a small boat, was desperately signaling Di Yelei but could only watch as a sudden burst of firelight enveloped the two of them.
“Lord Marquis!—”
With a cry of alarm from Da Niu, who was anxiously trying to get onto the deck to rescue them, he tried several times but still could not manage to get onto the opposing cargo ship.
Another violent explosion erupted, and the thunderous roar of the blast unleashed a wave of heat that swept away everything nearby. When the catastrophe had passed, the deck was left slick and bare, as if no one had ever been there.
As another giant wave struck, the cargo ship began to take on water, where it was no longer about the decision of a single family; everything had to rely on oneself.
Before the explosion had even occurred, a figure had quietly slipped into the bottom of the hull. However, in the chaos of escaping, no one had noticed.
When this person emerged, a figure was in their hand.
River water suddenly gushed into his mouth.
Liu Sisi struggled desperately, instinctively clinging to the last straw of salvation. Even though she knew she shouldn’t, Liu Sisi still wound herself around the waist of her so-called ‘straw’. The ‘straw’ was none other than Di Yelei!
In the moment the two fell into the ocean together, the cargo ship finally exploded, lighting up half the sky!
Di Yelei and she had narrowly escaped death, their legs, already stiff, thrashed about wildly as they ended up swallowing several mouthfuls of river water.
Waiting until the two managed to surface on the river, they were immediately spotted by those coming to their aid. Only then did Di Yelei drag her up onto one of the official ships, coughing desperately.
They had finally escaped to safety!
Di Yelei lay back on the deck, panting heavily.
Liu Sisi looked at him with mixed feelings, truly, he was extraordinary.
A few people gathered around Liu Sisi, who was sitting beside them, to hear everyone’s thoughts.
“We’re lucky to be alive after escaping! Let’s head back to shore first, and we’ll talk once we’re on land.”
“Good! Let’s get back to the shore first.”
At the moment, there were still several cargo ships on the river. Seeing a cargo ship on fire, they all moved closer to rescue quite a few people.
Although the military mission had been accomplished, a significant number of trusted soldiers had been lost. These were the elite of the army. Losing so many at once was heartbreaking for Di Yelei.
However, at that moment, Di Yelei could not afford to care about anything else. He had already lost a lot of blood, carried Liu Sisi so far, and then forcibly swam across the great river. He was now so exhausted that he collapsed on the ground, unable to move.
As soon as the ship reached the shore, he was immediately transferred to a stretcher and taken back to the hostel.
His large hand still tightly clung to Liu Sisi’s small hand, without any intention of letting go. Liu Sisi, with no choice, proceeded with the stretcher, sticking by his side.
Looking back at the great river, the center was still ablaze with a cargo ship on fire, the flames reflecting across half the sky!
