"KHALIFA!!" Various masculine yells echoed as she fell.

Khalifa frowned as she saw some rocks falling down, and she immediately activated her ability to shield herself.

Bang! Bang!

Her eyes twitched as she absorbed the internal shock of her fall, and it was fortunately not that high a fall either.

It was just that the rocks blocked the way back up.

"Khalifa!!"

She heard right above her, sounds muffled through the rocks, and she yelled back, "Don’t come down and don’t touch anything!!"

She saw that a lot of movements above could send the stones stumbling right above her. She said so and the men above were in a panic.

She sighed, looking around. She was in an underground parking lot. She immediately recalled the map and knew this was another entrance, one for those entering with a car.

Then she heard Kylo’s voice from above, "Khalifa," he called, his sexy baritone voice traveling to where she was at. "Open your radio."

Radio?

Oh, right.

She took it out from the space and as soon as she opened it, their frantic voice sounded.

"KHALIFA!"

"Are you hurt?"

"My love, please be okay!"

"Calm down," she said, not understanding half of what they blabbered about. "I’m fine,"

She looked down at the cut on her arm and healed it without any problems.

"I don’t even have a wound."

Her words calmed down the men and she soon stated her location, "Just open the entrance there, I’m already inside."

"But…"

"Don’t worry, hazards won’t affect me."

"But—"

She rolled her eyes when a barrage of worried words followed. "Trust me, do you think of me as a weak damsel?"

This made the other side silent down and she chuckled. She paused, a sly smirk adorning her face as she spoke, "Aren’t I your queen?"

Khalifa entered the password to the laboratory’s interior, hands on crystals to recuperate.

She needed to replenish soon, otherwise she was going to be a horny Khalifa in this place without her men.

She went past various doors and entered the main part of the laboratory. She narrowed her eyes and looked around, trying to see what she could with the dim lighting.

The atmosphere was stifling, air stagnant, and there were no signs of life at all—even zombies—the eerie silence was occasionally broken only by malfunctioning machinery and the static of the blinking lights.

Everywhere bore scars of attack: There were shattered glass and glass cabinets, toppled equipment, and broken computers lying around. There were even scorched walls.

She could see marks of blood around but no corpses—zombies or humans, and this was probably cleaned up by survivors.

This was good news, and she hoped there were still some people alive even a month after the tragedy.

Static sounded and she raised her communication device. "Khalifa, please tell us your status."

It was Kylo’s voice again. Her men seemed to have noticed she listened most to Kylo and Cauis, so they tend to be the spokesperson when they think she was being unruly.

It so happened that Cauis was busy clearing out the blockages so the job always went to Kylo.

"It’s been five minutes since we last talked."

"Please talk to us every five minutes."

"I’m fine," she told them over the radio, her soothing voice calming them. "Go continue exploring. I’m in a safe place."

"But—"

"I’m already in the lab. Focus on opening the entrance and we’ll see each other again." She said, touching the metallic walls.

General Lee told them all of the passwords and gave them fingerprints. In terms of access, she wasn’t worried about them..

She closed her eyes and recalled the map as best as she could, determining the exits.

She looked around if there was something like a fire exit map to determine where she was.

There was none.

"This place doesn’t follow the building code, I see," she mumbled to herself half-jokingly.

This was due to the secretive nature of the building, of course, but right now it brought her trouble and annoyance.

She continued to walk ahead seeing the same thing, a destroyed lab. However, she did soon see burnt corpses here and there now, but considering the number of people that should be here, they were far less. .

The General had told them that the virus scientists were all the way down to the fifth basement. Now, this would be a problem as she doubted the elevator even worked and Paul wasn’t with them to handle the electronic concerns.

So, she just decided to walk around this floor, nodding at how smooth everything was. Soon she found the center which could serve as her reference point.

The layout of the laboratory was circular, and this center ’lobby’ was a good place to start.

She saw the signage and realized that she was, luckily, in the second basement. She knew that the two-storey-tall interior vertical farm was located here. She looked and went in a direction, thinking it was likely survivors were there.

After so long, the only way to survive was near ready sources of food.

She was right.

The troublesome part was that she chose the wrong door to open.

She opened the door and dozens of zombies turned in her direction.

"Oops."

She took care of the zombies of course, and took their crystals. It was just enough for her, to be honest, and she ought to avoid any big mobs for now.

She finally entered the final door and saw the large interior farm.

She was met immediately by a refreshing, soothing, scent that characterized plants, and she stood a bit amazed at the scale of the farm.

It was around 1000 square meters of farm, and this wasn’t including the multiple tiers that made the vertical farm.

Each tier held a different crop and there was a large variety of vegetables and fruits still growing well even after so long.

There was an obvious automated system that helped take care of them. They were well-maintained, and Khalifa immediately knew she went to the right place.

She walked around and paused when she heard a sound.

For there, emerged a figure that was quite captivating.

He had rare silvery hair, extremely pale skin, and red eyes. His being gleamed under the artificial lights and, frankly, he didn’t seem human at all.

She had heard of these medical conditions, but never did she imagine someone could have both.

He was wearing a coat that was a bit dirty and had plenty torn, revealing a bit of his pale skin. Rather than looking unsightly, it only made him sexier.

Anyway, the man looked at her with a slightly guarded but an overall deadpan expression.

"Who are you?" he asked, his voice was not as low as Kylo’s, but it had a velvety feel to it.

"We’re here to rescue you," she said with a smile, one that would fascinate normal men.

This made the man look at her oddly, "You’re part of the search and rescue team?" He asked, looking at her up and down. "You?"

The man sneered, "I had known the world was doomed."

She smiled, "Uh-huh~ Where’re the others?" She asked, quite amused by his condescending look.

She hadn’t received a lot of these, especially not from men.

Especially in this appearance.

"I’m alone. Everyone’s dead," he said, as a-matter-of-factly.

"I’m sorry to hear that."

He shrugged.

She looked at him, up and down. "You didn’t kill people for meat did you?"

She half-expected him to be offended. Instead, he just shook his head.

"Humans lack the nutritional balance needed for consumption. Further, digesting human flesh required a high amount of energy that would be impractical as I had limited sources of it."

Then, he looked at her, as if she just asked a stupid question.

"Stupid of you to even consider it."
