Khalifa: Queen in the Apocalypse-Chapter 213: Trouble at the Capital
Capital Base
Inside the safety of the walls, a certain former superstar stalked his own sister.
He had been following her for a while, and soon she finally snapped.
"Brother, how many times do I have to tell you, she’s really dead!" she yelled, eyes a little red from annoyance as well as guilt.
"If you stop bothering me, I can help you find a nice place to stay, okay?"
Sid and Jojo were naturally allowed to stay in a nice house under former leader Kylo’s name, but with the other’s death, the old general naturally took everything back.
"There are so many people needing accommodations," he had said when the ’expropriation’ happened, using that gentle old man tone of his, "You understand, don’t you?"
Of course they did, so they surrendered the house with minimal questions asked, except for what happened to Kylo and the others, which they didn’t get the answers for.
But Sid didn’t care about sharing a room with dozens more. What he wanted to know was what really happened to Khalifa and the others.
And…
"Did you really want to kill us?"
He couldn’t bring himself to ask before, and the worry about Khalifa’s life and death made him forget about that for a bit.
But seeing his sister so cold, made him doubt whether it was really true or not.
Suli stopped and whipped her head to him, eyes red. "Of course not! I—
"I don’t know what happened, I didn’t mean for it to—"
"I believe you."
This made Suli pause, her wide eyes staring at her brother in disbelief. She felt a bit teary.
"So.. please… tell me the truth about Khalifa."
She pursed her lips, and looked at her brother with a complicated expression.
Back then, she was so surprised to be released. While this meant she had to serve more than one man, at least it meant she was out of that room.
When she was going back ’home’ from an ’assignment’, she overheard the master talk to his student from the Peace Base.
But…
"I… really don’t know much," she only said, walking over to her poor brother and patting his shoulder. "What I can tell you… is that they’re really dead.
"Move on."

Speaking of the old general’s students and (one of) his lovers, they had actually just returned with the ’mission item’ a couple of hours prior.
At this time, they were being held in another one of the old general’s properties, the house right next to his house.
Hilten and Mira looked at the woman with a slightly protruded stomach, crying on the floor.
"I… I really haven’t awakened yet!" She sobbed, "Please let me go!"
She tried very hard to keep her cool, knowing too much emotions would be bad for the fetus.
But it wasn’t easy.
How could a weak woman like her remain calm after being kidnapped for skills she didn’t even have?!
Then a gentle hand—or rather, a hand covered with a mitten—found her head, pulling it up a bit. "I know you can do it," Mira said, and Claire looked at her former friend and her pale face and large eyebags.
"It should be around this time," Mira mumbled, her red eyes looking creepily at her old roommate.
Stop embarrassing me with your incompetence, came an unspoken thought.
Mira mused about what was different now versus the dream. She knew Claire really should be getting powers by now, and the zombies in a few weeks.
Then she recalled the various life-and-death situations and realized what went missing.
After all, Claire had been safe for so long thanks to many people protecting her. Not to mention, she was pregnant, so she would in no way place herself in any sort of danger at all.
She cursed. Darn. Miscalculation.
"Please… let me go back…" Claire sobbed, "Please… Mira…"
Her heart ached when she remembered Chris. He was shot when she was taken. It was only in the leg, but it must’ve been painful.
"Chris, he… he’s in danger. I want to see him!" She knew Mira liked Chris. Maybe her heart will soften—
The girl only smirked though, and Claire’s heart dropped.
"You want to see Chris?" The raven-haired girl asked, looking up at the soldier with an eerie smile.
She was particularly belligerent with the pain she was experiencing for every second of her life. She was slowly getting used to it, but it definitely took a toll on her psyche.
Claire’s pretty eyebrows furrowed as movement at the back, and then someone in a stretcher was brought in.
"CHRIS!!" Claire yelled, crawling to her lover’s bed.

He was still bleeding from the gunshot wound. It wasn’t supposed to be a deadly injury but, left untreated, it would definitely kill him!
"NONONO! HELP HIM PLEASE!" She cried, holding the man’s cold hand.
Mira laughed maniacally at the sight, thoroughly enjoying other people’s pain as if it softened her own. "Heal him," she said. "Or he’ll die."
Mirafelt smug when she saw the old general and Hilten’s approving nods.
Claire sobbed, and her hand massaged her stomach, a bit helpless.
"We… we need to remove the bullet."
Hilten nodded and asked one of the soldiers to do as asked.
A few minutes later, they handed her a surgical kit from the medbay and she cleaned him up.
They watched impatiently as she did so, and Mira tried very hard not to pull her hair and tell her to hurry up.
Claire shakily raised her hand over the wound, trying to recall—very hard—what Khalifa taught her before.
Minutes passed and there was no change and people were starting to get impatient.
Claire started sobbing in helplessness, but she still remained in position, desperately trying to heal Chris.
She couldn’t lose him!
Her Chris! Please be okay!!
Suddenly, soft light emerged from her hand and surrounded her lover’s, and it enveloped him like a comforting blanket.
Claire almost cried in happiness but knew she still had to do much.
Everyone watched as Chris regained his color. Especially the general’s—it was as if he could see all his ailments healed!
But then… before any of them could celebrate, the alarm rang, and soldiers rushed to their room without decorum, making them frown.
"TROUBLE, GENERAL!" The soldiers yelled, reporting with a pale face. "We’re being attacked by mobs!"
The old general wanted to shoot him. "You say it like it’s the first time?"
But what the soldier said next made everyone’s blood drop.
"The zombies… they…they—they could use elements!!"
