Khalifa: Queen in the Apocalypse-Chapter 282: First Pictures
A month later, Khalifa would discover that Pregnancy was, in fact, not that much of a happy thing when she was suffering the pregnancy woes!
"It’s coming… it’s coming," Khalifa exclaimed, alerting the men with her, and they immediately ran towards her.
Jacob slid with a ready bucket, while Cauis appeared behind her to hold back her hair.
She vomited all over the bucket with Cauis’ free hand gently patting her back, and Jacob fanning her.
Cauis told him to get some water and he did, appearing from the kitchen with water, ready to help her relax as soon as the bout was over.
Since she started showing the symptoms of normal pregnant women, there were never less than two men hovering around her at all times.
They had hoped that she wouldn’t suffer this, and they were vaguely expecting there weren’t many symptoms at all. After all, she had her abilities.
However, she had noticed she was losing control of her power, and she was unable to heal herself efficiently at all.
So, like any other woman, she suffered from nausea, back pain, hormonal moods, and the like.
Her suffering made the men’s hearts twitch in pain, and they were already cursing whoever the father was!
How quickly their thoughts changed: from wanting to be the father, to wanting to kill him!!
The men looked panicked when they saw her so pale, immediately turning in a direction. "Claire!"
"I’m here, I’m here," she said. She was actually in the same room, but was unable to get closer immediately because the men were hovering too closely.
There was also a nurse and a midwife on the island, but they were currently on-break. Grandma and Auntie were also usually with her, but they were visiting Hugo’s base with him at the moment.
Claire excused herself, making the men reluctantly scoot away to give her space, and she sat closely to Khalifa. She used her ability to improve her condition as well as using some of her medical knowledge to help her out.
She watched as Khalifa drank water. "Drinking water really helps with the nausea, just sip bit by bit.
"It’s just normal symptoms ," Claire said, patting her own bloated belly. "She’ll be fine."
"Is she really alright?"
So many big men looming over her made her eyes twitch. Khalifa sighed.
"Behave, she’s a pregnant woman herself," she said, turning to the girl.
When Claire found out about her pregnancy, she insisted on seeing her. Anyway, more medical professionals had been rescued already and there were other water-based supernaturalists she had been training in hopes that they triggered the healer skills as well.
It naturally wasn’t easy as she was still needed, but fortunately one of the trainees did exhibit healing skills. Further, she was pregnant so the medical team really weren’t able to stop her.
Chris took advantage of finally pulling her to rest during her pregnancy, convincing her to stay with Khalifa while they were both pregnant.
Chris was then assigned as a guard in the island, though they were tasked to clear out nearby mobs as well.
However, every day he would go back home to his beautiful pregnant wife and it felt like he had reached the pinnacle of life in the apocalypse.
"Your abilities are normal?"
"Yes, there’s no abnormality at all," Claire said, looking at her with concern. "About yours… should we be worried?"
Khalifa shook her head, touching the stomach that was now showing a little bump. She wanted to use her ability to check their status, but she didn’t dare to.
She sighed and looked at Cauis. "Is the ultrasound machine ready?"
Cauis smiled and kissed her cheek. "Yes, your first ultrasound session is today, as scheduled."
***
The first ultrasound session was an island-wide event. The population there wasn’t big, but the cooks were preparing a feast (with food OK for pregnant women, of course).
Grandma, auntie, and Hugo also arrived later that afternoon, just in time for the ’grand occasion’. They didn’t even need to rest, they just took a quick bath to clean themselves up and went directly to where she was.
Khalifa was accompanied by all her men to the new clinic, handled by Claire, another pregnant woman with their nurse assistant.
It was her first month and, generally, ultrasounds were given at 6 weeks at the earliest, which was right where she was at.
The men all felt a bit giddy to have their first view of the child. Of course, there was still part of them that really wanted to strangle whoever the father was for making Khalifa suffer like this!
At this thought: "Would we see who the father is?" Kaize asked with gritted teeth, earning several eye rolls.
To be fair, Kaize simply wasn’t exposed to things like this and he had no time to watch dramas so he really had no idea how ultrasounds worked.
Khalifa giggled and patted his cheek. "It’s okay, you’re handsome."
"..."
Anyway, Khalifa was carefully laid down on the hospital bed by her men. Cauis sat on the free side, and therefore could hold her hand in the process, while the others positioned themselves as closely as possible without being obstacles to the doctor.
They tried but Claire still had to implore them to give some air, and they reluctantly had to take a step back.
Claire put a generous amount of gel on her stomach, spreading it around with the transducer.
"There will be an image soon," Claire said and they all turned their attention to the screen while Claire was manipulating the probe.
The room filled with the soft whirring sound of the machine, in sync with everyone’s beating hearts. Soon, the screen displayed grainy black-and-white images.
Their hearts softened as they look at the blobs, knowing it was a life-in-progress.

But, at some point, Claire narrowed her eyes and paused. This made the others look at her in worry.
"Is there anything wrong?"
"Ah, no, no, don’t worry!" Claire said, clearing her throat.
"Then, what is it?
"It’s nothing bad!" She said after confirming a few times. She then turned to Khalifa with a very wide grin.
"Congratulations! You’re having twins!"
