King of the Wilderness-Chapter 124 - 116: The Cabin’s Initial Completion!
This temporary rebar processing plant is incredibly efficient!
By the time Lin Yu’an finished drilling the third pile hole, the first perfect rebar cage had already been completed by Barton and Hank working together.
However, they soon encountered an enemy even more daunting than the hard permafrost—mosquitoes.
By mid-June, as the ground thawed, countless puddles became breeding grounds for the insects.
Thousands of mosquitoes, like a swarm of black fighter jets, swooped in from all directions, launching a frenzied attack on the "fresh blood and flesh" emanating heat and sweat.
"Oh, damn bloodsuckers!"
Hank, while tying the rebar with force, kept slapping his neck.
Lin Yu’an was well-prepared. He took out a complete set of defensive equipment from the supply box—high-concentration DEET mosquito repellent, mosquito nets covering the whole head, and several coils of mosquito incense brought from China that were rumored to be miraculously effective.
"Everyone, put this on!" He distributed the head nets to everyone.
Everyone immediately put on the head nets. Though it slightly obstructed their vision, the thin mesh warded off the worst disturbances.
They constantly sprayed mosquito repellent on themselves, and a pungent fragrance filled the entire construction site.
The battle continued! They set up a shift rest system to cope with this marathon lasting over twenty hours.
Inside the warm tent, Lin Yu’an had already prepared several camp beds in advance, using thin wooden poles to set up large mosquito nets over all the beds, and lit a coil of mosquito incense inside.
This was their "Safe House" for rotating to recharge.
Lin Yu’an and Old George, as the technical core, remained steadfast on the drilling front line, with the roar of the Xu Gong loader almost never ceasing.
Meanwhile, Stan, Barton, Hank, and Cody split into two groups, taking turns making the rebar cages and resting.
When one group slept for an hour in the tent, the other braved the mosquito attacks outside, frantically tying rebar.
"Alright! The sixth cage is done!"
Barton shouted out, and he and Hank, after securing spacer blocks to the bottom of the six-meter-high, nearly hundred-kilogram rebar cage, carefully lifted it to the side of the freshly drilled sixth hole.
Then they slowly, vertically lowered it into the hole.
With a dull "thud," the spacer block at the bottom of the rebar cage hit the bottom.
Old George immediately stepped forward, using wooden wedges to secure it in the center of the hole, ensuring a uniform protective layer gap between it and the hole wall.
"Next one!" he shouted at Lin Yu’an.
Then, turning to Stan and Cody, who had just come out of the tent refreshed, he yelled, "You two, relieve them! Keep making cages! Quickly!"
With each completed pile hole, a rebar cage was placed.
The entire process operated like a precise war machine, running efficiently under the never-setting sunlight of the polar day.
Time ticked by second by second, passing through twenty full hours of continuous battle.
When the last pile hole was drilled through, everyone present cheered victoriously! Almost everyone was so exhausted they couldn’t straighten their backs.
However, Old George waited for them to calm down before loudly saying, "Don’t celebrate too soon, boys! We’ve got the vertical frames, but we still need to attach the horizontal ribs!"
Under his command, Lin Yu’an once again operated the Xu Gong loader, switching to the bucket. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Between the already placed rebar cages in the pile holes, he quickly dug trenches about half a meter wide and forty centimeters deep.
Connecting all the pile holes into a massive "L"-shaped grid.
Cody, looking at the Xu Gong loader, said, "Lin, your Xu Gong loader is really something! Working continuously for over twenty hours without a single glitch!"
"Of course, Cody, it’s purely made in China! If you get a chance, you should get one too!"
Everyone burst out laughing, spreading a joyful atmosphere across the construction site.
Old George, looking at the twenty-one pile holes and beams with rebar cages already placed, wiped the sweat off his face with satisfaction and announced to everyone!
"Great job, everyone! Today, we defeated the initial permafrost! Get a good night’s sleep! Tomorrow, we have an even tougher battle to fight!"
This sleep was exceptionally sound for Lin Yu’an.
Even under the bright light of the polar day, the intense exhaustion allowed him to quickly enter a deep sleep.
When Lin Yu’an woke up again, it was already noon the next day.
Old George hadn’t gone home last night and stayed in the tent together.
Lin Yu’an stepped out of the tent to find Old George and David grilling a few thick moose steaks, while Mike was standing by, watching with drool.
"Awake, kid?" Old George handed him a cup of coffee.
Once everyone gathered, Old George began announcing the day’s plan.
"After this meal, we’ll start. Remember, today’s work, once started, must not stop! Not until the last pile hole and beam are filled."
"Otherwise, the concrete poured first and the later one will form a cold joint, severely affecting the overall strength of the foundation. So, we must complete it in one go today!"
These words instantly made the previously relaxed atmosphere turn serious. Everyone understood another difficult battle was ahead.
With Old George directing, Barton and Hank were responsible for horizontally placing the main steel bars of the thick ground beam into the bottom of the beam trench.
