King of the Wilderness-Chapter 128 - 119: Veterinarian Emily
"Hello?"
Emily took the initiative to speak, her voice clear and confident, standing ten meters away from Lin Yu’an, maintaining a safe social distance.
"Hello, Emily, I know you."
Lin Yu’an did not step forward immediately but stood still, responding amiably.
"My name is Lin Yu’an."
"Lin Yu’an..."
Emily’s gaze quickly swept across the mountain of building materials, the towering massive greenhouse, and the already-formed foundation platform, a hint of undisguised surprise in her eyes.
She exclaimed, "Are you planning to build a fortress?"
"Just a home," Lin Yu’an smiled.
"Sorry for interrupting your work. Actually, I’m here for help."
Somewhat helpless, she pointed in the direction of the highway: "My car broke down halfway; the fuel pump seems to have an issue, intermittent. You’re the closest, so I thought I’d ask if you have any tools I could borrow."
Without any hesitation, Lin Yu’an said, "Of course, do you need me to come and take a look? I know a bit about mechanics."
"Really? That would be wonderful!" Emily’s face revealed a delighted smile.
Lin Yu’an started his Zongshen Tricycle, carrying Emily, heading towards the highway.
Upon arrival, Lin Yu’an jumped out of the vehicle and said to Emily, "Get in the car and try to ignite."
Emily sat in the driver’s seat, turned the key.
A buzzing sound was heard, but the engine only sputtered a few times, accompanied by irregular shaking of the vehicle; it ultimately failed to start.
"Judging by the sound, the main probability lies in the ignition or fuel supply system," Lin Yu’an made an initial judgment.
He asked Emily to open the hood, revealing Subaru’s iconic horizontally opposed engine, neatly presented before them.
Lin Yu’an did not rush to disassemble it with tools; he first bent down to carefully inspect the entire engine compartment, his eyes scanning each component.
Soon, his gaze focused on an extremely inconspicuous area—the harness connecting to the fuel pump relay.
Pointing at it, he said to Emily, "Come and take a look at this."
Curious, Emily leaned over, only to see at a bend in the harness, a very tiny slit like it had been cut by a sharp tool on the corrugated pipe wrapping the harness. It would be unnoticed without careful inspection.
Lin Yu’an took a small knife from his tool bag, cautiously slicing open that segment of the corrugated pipe.
One critical wire controlling the fuel pump’s power supply had its insulation stripped at a short section, exposing the copper wire inside.
And on that exposed copper wire was a layer of unnaturally formed, slightly crystalline green corrosion.
"This is..." Emily’s eyes turned somber.
"This is a mark of accelerated corrosion by an electrolyte," Lin Yu’an’s voice also turned grim.
"Someone used a syringe or dropper to precisely apply a small amount of high-concentration acidic or alkaline fluid on this exposed section."
"The liquid corroded the copper wire, causing poor contact, which is why your fuel pump was intermittent."
His words caused Emily’s face to change instantly.
This was no accident; it was deliberate sabotage! And the method was incredibly professional and covert.
"Can it be fixed?" Emily’s voice carried a hint of calm.
"It can be, it’s just a minor issue," Lin Yu’an’s tone was very calm, as if handling something routine.
He took out his portable toolbox, skillful and quick.
First, he used a small wire stripper to completely cut off the corroded wire, deftly stripping out brand new copper wire from both ends.
Then, he took out a "heat shrink butt connector" commonly used in North America for car repairs, inserting the two copper wire ends into each side, using a specialized crimping tool to fasten them securely.
Finally, he took out a lighter, evenly heating the small terminal.
Under the flame, the terminal’s external insulation began to shrink and a ring of red sealant oozed from within, perfectly and waterproofly encapsulating the entire connection point.
The whole process, smooth like flowing water, took less than five minutes.
"Alright, give it a try," Lin Yu’an said calmly.
Emily took a deep breath, returned to the driver’s seat, and, with a nervous mind, turned the key.
"Whirr... Vroom—!"
Accompanied by a smooth start-up sound, Subaru’s horizontally opposed engine instantly awoke, emitting a stable and powerful roar! All the dashboard warning lights went off alongside it.
"Oh my gosh! You actually fixed it!"
Emily switched off the engine, got out of the car, and looked at Lin Yu’an with a gaze filled not only with admiration but more complex gratitude.
"I checked for ages before and didn’t discover any issue here."
"The perpetrator’s method was very professional, meant to make it appear like a mere circuit fault. You might need to pay attention to safety in the coming days," Lin Yu’an nonchalantly advised while packing up the tools.
"Thank you very much, Lin!"
"Not only did you fix my car, but you also... showed me the truth. If you have time, you’re welcome to visit my veterinary clinic in town, and I’ll buy you a drink. My clinic is at the end of the fork in the town’s road, the biggest wooden house there."
"Alright, certainly."
After Emily thanked him again, she started her Subaru Outback and drove along the road toward the town.
Lin Yu’an stood by the roadside, pondering how to transport the container into the camp as well.
Just then, a sudden roar of a motorcycle engine from afar interrupted his thoughts.
A black heavily modified off-road motorcycle sped along the Dalton Highway, the rider clad in a black riding suit and a full-face helmet, making it impossible to discern appearances.
The motorcycle didn’t pause at all, directly turning into the fork leading to Wiseman Town.
At the moment the motorcycle passed by him, Lin Yu’an’s Sixth Sense, tested through countless life-and-death trials, suddenly pricked like a needle, instantly feeling a chilling malice!
That malice vanished in an instant but was extremely intense!
Lin Yu’an could be sure it was not directed at him, so...
Flashes of Emily and her broken-down Subaru Outback crossed his mind!
A man-made vehicle failure to make a target stop halfway or delay their journey; this is a classic trick!
A thought arose in his heart! This rider was after Emily!
Lin Yu’an originally didn’t want to meddle, but the phrase "we need neighbors more" echoed in his mind.
He thought of Stan, George, and the honest and sincere people who had helped him.
Without any more hesitation, Lin Yu’an mounted his Zongshen Tricycle!
"Roar—!"
The GB1000 engine let out a thunderous roar, and Lin Yu’an drove this red beast, speeding in the direction where Emily and the black motorcycle had disappeared!
The houses in Wiseman Town were far apart, and the fork was even more desolate once entered.
Lin Yu’an knew that in such a place, if something really happened, Emily would be all alone.
He twisted the throttle to the max, and the tricycle fishtailed wildly on the muddy road, yet with his superb driving skills, he kept the vehicle under control.
When he saw Emily’s large wooden house at the end of the fork from afar, he immediately slowed down. He spotted the black off-road motorcycle parked outside the house!
To not startle the enemy, he stopped the tricycle and stored it away with a thought.
Then, using the cover of the woods, he quietly approached the wooden house.
When he arrived at the clinic, he found it unusually quiet.
This quietness made his Sixth Sense, long conditioned to danger, buzz with warning.
From experience, such a strong premonition often indicated the presence of someone with intense malice.
Emily’s wooden house had its doors closed, and all curtains were drawn, as if the owner was not at home.
But Lin Yu’an’s gaze fixed on a detail on the second floor, where a window was slightly ajar.
He moved around to the side of the wooden house, and his physical prowess, enhanced to superhuman levels by the Golden Finger, manifested perfectly at that moment.
After taking a few steps back and running forward, his feet pushed hard against the rough log wall, propelling his body upward in an instant.
His fingers precisely hooked onto the bottom edge of a first-floor window, abdominal muscles exerting force, he flipped upwards like a monkey, silently climbing onto the second-floor windowsill, and then deftly slipped through the window.
The whole process was completed without making a single extra sound.
The room he landed in seemed to be a study.
He immediately crouched low, pressing his ear to the floor, eavesdropping on the conversation seeping in from the living room below.
"Emily, my patience is limited! Hand over that hard drive, and both you and I can walk away alive," a man’s voice carried on. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"I don’t know what you’re talking about." Emily’s voice, though slightly tremulous, was uncannily firm.
Lin Yu’an quietly moved to the top of the stairs and looked down.
In the living room, the man in biker gear was pointing a silenced pistol at Emily, who sat on the couch.
Emily’s face was somewhat pale, yet her eyes showed no submission whatsoever.
The biker seemed infuriated. "Don’t play dumb! Your ex-boyfriend, that damned thief! Before he died, he must have given you the hard drive and that map! I know you have it! Hand it over!"
"I have no hard drive," Emily replied coldly.
"Then die! I’ll find it myself!" the biker shouted furiously, raising his gun without hesitation.
Just as he was about to pull the trigger!
"Bang!"
Emily moved! With an exceptionally agile tactical roll, she rolled off the couch to the floor!
