Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Spoiled Rotten

Feng Mountain narrowed his eyes, looking at the three black dots.

As they drew closer, their silhouettes gradually sharpened. They were three agile, adult white wolves.

They sprinted across the snow, kicking up flurries of flakes. Their speed was astonishing, their white manes dancing as they ran.

"Khilla!" Nash raised his rifle, aiming at one of the white wolves, ready to pull the trigger at any moment.

Feng Mountain raised a hand and pushed the barrel down. "They’re probably the Little Wolf Cub’s family. Don’t shoot yet. Let’s wait and see."

The three white wolves ran closer and reunited with the Little Wolf Cub.

The Little Wolf Cub yipped excitedly, its small body wiggling with joy, its eyes full of delight and excitement.

The three white wolves, in turn, continuously licked the Little Wolf Cub with gentle movements.

One of the white wolves gently nuzzled the Little Wolf Cub with its head, a low whine rumbling in its throat as if to comfort it. Another wolf carefully sniffed the cub’s body, checking if it was okay. The last wolf stared intently at Feng Mountain and Nash.

After the three white wolves had calmed down, their gazes toward Feng Mountain and Nash were filled with vigilance.

Feng Mountain moved his hand away from his rifle, signaling that he meant no harm.

Just then, the Little Wolf Cub ran in front of Feng Mountain and let out a series of barks at the adult wolves, as if explaining something to them.

Hearing the Little Wolf Cub’s barks, the vigilance in the white wolves’ eyes gradually faded. They let down their guard and lay down on the snow, one after another.

Feng Mountain could tell they must be exhausted. A long-distance trek through the ice and snow had likely drained all their stamina.

The three white wolves’ bodies trembled slightly as they panted heavily. Icicles hung from the fur on their bellies, making them look miserable in the cold, snowy night.

"Nash, go get some jerky."

At his words, Nash returned to the tent and came out with some bear and deer jerky. Prince and Coca-Cola followed behind him. Seeing so many wolves, Prince got scared and quickly hid behind Feng Mountain.

"Look at you, you coward!" Feng Mountain groused, taking the jerky and tossing it to the three white wolves resting on the snow nearby.

Smelling the food, the three white wolves hesitated for a moment before each snatching a piece and devouring it ravenously.

They ate quickly; the jerky disappeared in just a few bites.

It looked like they hadn’t eaten in a long time.

Thinking this, Feng Mountain picked up his Type 56 carbine and walked toward the foot of the slope. At this time of night, he should be able to find some unlucky Thunderbirds or hares resting in the snow.

Before long, "BANG! BANG! BANG!" Gunshots suddenly rang out, sounding exceptionally loud in the silent, snowy night.

The sudden gunshots startled the white wolves, and they instantly became alert.

Their previously relaxed bodies tensed up. They pushed themselves up on all fours, fur standing on end, and let out low growls, their eyes filled with fear and vigilance.

Feng Mountain returned to the camp, tossed the freshly hunted hare to the white wolves, then took a few steps back and stood quietly to the side, observing.

The three white wolves hesitated for a moment, their eyes full of caution.

However, the smell of fresh blood was too tempting, and their stomachs were already growling with hunger.

A larger white wolf couldn’t resist approaching the prey. It sniffed it cautiously, and seeing nothing amiss, it bit down on the hare’s neck and began to eat ravenously.

Seeing this, the other two white wolves also rushed forward to feast.

For a moment, the only sounds on the snowy ground were of the white wolves tearing at their prey and swallowing.

The Little Wolf Cub paced anxiously nearby, trying to squeeze in for a bite of meat, but it was pushed aside by the adult wolves.

Seeing this, a faint smile appeared on Feng Mountain’s face. He gestured for Nash to return to the tent.

’The Little Wolf Cub was just a burden I picked up along the way. Saving it was just a matter of convenience.’

’Now that its family has found it, I can let it go.’

Prince was watching with great interest and didn’t want to go back. Feng Mountain grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and dragged the reluctant dog into the tent.

Unexpectedly, the Little Wolf Cub zipped over with a WHOOSH, whimpering pitifully as if complaining that Feng Mountain hadn’t called for it.

’Damn it!’

’So much for getting rid of the burden.’

Feng Mountain sighed and helplessly lifted the tent flap to let the Little Wolf Cub in. As for the three adult white wolves, they were currently busy eating.

「Late at night.」

Cradling the three little ones, Feng Mountain gently adjusted them into comfortable positions, preparing to sleep.

His thoughts gradually drifted away as he communed with the tribe’s Fire Seed.

The tribe’s Fire Seed burned in his mind. Within the range of its light, the white-feathered eagle still stood on its designated stone, but now there were several more eagles behind it.

The moss and vegetation had grown more lush, and the vegetable seeds he had sown had broken through their shells and sprouted.

Outside the tent, the three white wolves, which had been sleeping quietly on the snow, seemed to sense some subtle change.

First, their ears twitched slightly. Then they slowly got up and padded silently through the snow to the side of the tent.

The three white wolves’ eyes glinted with a faint light in the darkness. They lay down quietly beside the tent, guarding everything inside.

They let the cold night wind blow through their fur.

...

「The next morning.」

Long-lost sunlight spilled through the thin clouds and onto the snow-covered ground.

Feng Mountain walked out of the tent and was surprised by the scene before him.

The three white wolves hadn’t left. Instead, they were standing guard around the tent. At this moment, they were covered in snow, resembling three white statues.

Seeing Feng Mountain appear, the white wolves shook the snow from their bodies and voluntarily took a few steps back. Their gazes were no longer filled with the initial vigilance, but with a new gentleness and submission.

’What’s going on?’

Feng Mountain shook his head in confusion but didn’t dwell on it. He guessed they were probably worried about the Little Wolf Cub and that’s why they hadn’t left.

After waking up, the Little Wolf Cub saw that the three white wolves were still there and happily trotted over, letting out eager yips.

Feng Mountain stopped paying attention to the white wolves, because the Wolf Pack from his divination seemed to be on the move again.

’These damn wolves can really run.’

Now, even Feng Mountain didn’t know where he was. The map on the satellite phone was completely incomprehensible.

’First, make breakfast. Then, continue the chase.’

While he was cooking, another whimpering sound came from outside the tent. Feng Mountain was curious. There was only one little whiner of a cub in the tent, so where was this high-pitched whimpering coming from?

’Did another Little Wolf Cub show up?’

Feng Mountain curiously lifted the tent flap, and his expression immediately turned ugly.

The three white wolves had hunted a hare from the Tundra. Besides the Little Wolf Cub who was eating it, that shameless mutt, Prince, was letting out strange whimpers with his tail between his legs, begging the white wolves for a piece of the hare.

’This dog is a lost cause!!!’

’Utterly shameless.’

’Out of sight, out of mind.’

Feng Mountain dropped the tent flap and continued cooking, meeting Nash’s confused gaze.

"From now on, beat Prince whenever you have nothing better to do. Make him remember he’s a dog."

After breakfast, the two of them packed up the tent again and set off to continue their search for the mysterious Wolf Pack.

「Crown Territory.」

A bush plane wobbled as it landed on the runway.

Frank excitedly jumped out of the cabin. Before he even entered the camp, he started shouting.

"Feng, my dear, Frank is here to see you!"

"Surprise! Bet you didn’t expect me!"

"Feng, buddy!!"

"Fack, he’s not even home! God, how am I supposed to live without my Adamantium Kidney?"
