Last Divinity: The Advent Of Dreams-Chapter 42: Bring Out The MISSILE
Night came, the mood turned sour and the men picked up their rusty weapons and went outside.
Infront of the cave were the two trucks and four cars. Khali had them placed in a more defensive position.
The men wielding weapons numbered over a hundred, they were shaking with fear while Drago was trying to encourage them.
Khali’s soldiers looked relaxed in their military gear. The world turned dark and the sand rose.
Drago used his ability, black scales appeared over his body and he grew a bit taller and more muscular.
Samantha drew a circle Infront of herself with a white powder. She place the claw of a clicker and the tail of a scorpion inside the circle.
Slit her own wrist and used her blood to draw a hexagram inside the circle. She started whispering chants.
White mist rose up from the circle and took the form of a clicker and a scorpion.
’ Spirit magic.’ Khali thought to himself.
Khali remembered this type of magic, he created it with the behest of his older sister. It was under the authority of death.
Allowing the user to summon or communicate with spirits of the dead using a sacrifice. The power of those spirits highly depended on the sacrifices themselves.
In this case they only had the power of a peak rank 1. However what made spirits dangerous was that they were intangible.
Their attacks could directly attack the soul while physical attacks were not very effective against them.
Unfortunately for her, her power will not be used tonight. " Take aim." His soldiers stood forward and raised their guns.
This confused the others as they didn’t know what guns were and guns did not look like magic artefacts, they didn’t look powerful at all. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
The sand exploded and out came clickers and scorpions. The scorpions were pitch black and about the size of a wolf.
Like clickers they were monsters. Most were below rank 1 but he saw over a dozen with two tails.
He also saw clickers who were rank 1. The faces of Drago and Samantha changed. Their expressions grew more grim.
" Why is this happening?" Samantha asked in a broken voice. They had never seen the situation so bad before.
They had faced large hordes before but they had only about 3 rank 1 at most. Not this many.
Khali and his people on the other hand did not know that, they thought this was normal until Drago pointed out it was not.
He figured they must’ve been drawn to something then it dawned on him. Earlier he used a lot of divine energy.
If there was anything monsters like more than anything was devouring divinity. It was as if it was a drug to them.
They become relentless when sensing divinity. Khali mostly had his divinity hidden but today he broke that to display his power.
Because of that he drew all of these monsters here. The clickers and scorpions weren’t the only ones.
More and more monsters showed up, some looked like beetles with tentacles. Others were massive worms.
The worms looked disgusting with flesh bumps like tumors all over their bodies. Occasionally those tumors would explode and release black smoke.
That smoke killed the nearest monsters to them and proceeded blowing towards Khali and his people.
" Cecilia." He called out and Cecilia understood immediately. She cast a wind spell and blew away the smoke.
It blew back poisoning the monsters instead. Drago’s men looked terrified, their hands and knees were shaking.
" Fire." He shouted and guns blazed. Bullets lit up the night sky and pierced through the bodies of monsters like they were tofu.
Blood and limbs flew through the air. Samantha and her people stood there with mouths wide open unable to react.
" What kind of artefacts is that?" Drago couldn’t help but ask. Samantha shook her head.
" I don’t know but they... they’re not using their mana. I can detect a hint of mana but it feels dormant, it’s hard to explain."
" Guns." Khali answered, " There’s no magic at all, their power is independent of the user." What he said was incomprehensible to Samantha.
She had studied magic and while she can’t claim to be a master she knew the limitations of mana.
It needed the mental control of the user which was highly dependent on the user’s strength.
For a weapon to not use mana it would have to be a mortal weapon but she had never heard of a mortal weapon with the power of a peak rank 1 artefact.
Not to mention she can feel mana whenever those guns explode or whatever it was that they did.
" I don’t have time to explain right now but you’ll understand later." He issued orders, Viona stood to the side bored with nothing to do.
The horde seemed endless, more and more monsters kept coming out below the sand. Lucas and Cecilia created barriers to block the projectile attacks of the scorpions.
They were able to shoot the end of their stingers like darts at extreme speeds. Especially the rank 1 ones.
Each dart was dripping with poison, if they hit anybody they were bound to die without an antidote or treatment.
However to Drago and the others what they were seeing was beyond anything in their wildest dreams.
The monster horde was completely helpless, they couldn’t even get close no matter how hard they tried.
When the soldiers ran out of ammo they just loaded more. They had brought enough to wage a war.
Drago watched the guns with a longing gaze. Khali laughed, " Want to try one?" Drago nodded like a child seeing a new toy.
The other men wanted to try too, unfortunately they were not even squires, they couldn’t handle the recoil of even the weakest gun they had.
Not even his mages played with these guns. Drago was a big guy like Garo, he gave him a massive pump gun.
The man looked too excited and eager to try it. After being told how to fire he immediately unloaded on some poor tentacle beetles.
Of all the monsters here they had the strongest shell. However the pump gun blew up their shells with a single shot, Drago also took a step back from the recoil.
The pump gun shot out over a dozen steel balls that spread out like a fan. They left nothing but blood and gore in their path.
Even the sand desert exploded Infront of him creating a wide cone shaped trench. Drago started laughing like a child and firing the gun left and right.
Suddenly the sand exploded from the distance and out came a massive worm that rose to the sky like a skyscraper.
The part of the worm that was above the sand was already over 60 metres tall. Even Drago got terrified when he saw it.
It was a rank 2 monster and not a new one. Khali just grinned happily,
" Bring out the missile." He ordered with enthusiasm the others had never heard before.
