Leanna-Chapter 256: [LEANNA] 3.1
After the man with green hair barked out his battle cry, he bolted towards Sin with full force, kicking dust and rubbles in his rouse.
Sin remained unmoved and took the rampaging man head-on. He avoided the man’s barraged of punches and kicks, and waited for an opening and went for the kill.
Living in this kind of world, there were things which made people stay alive longer than the rest, and that was a simple method of preserving strength. With wild beasts, the environment, the climate, and even their fellow brethren as their enemy –– each day. Not knowing how to preserve their strength would get them killed within seconds.
The man with green hair focused all his power in his punches and kicks while Sin used little energy to dodge. Using light steps in avoiding his opponent. And the opportunity showed itself when the man’s attack slowed, his movement sloppy. Sin grabbed his arm and swiftly moved behind him and raised his foe’s arm, breaking his opponent’s joints.
The loud cheers echoed when the crackling of bones vibrated together with the man’s agonizing roars.
Overcame with furry, the man with green hair swung his remaining arm. Sin grabbed and broke it like it was nothing, rendering the guy defenseless.
In a blink of an eye, Sin kneed the man’s stomach, and the creature curled his body in pain, and Sin grabbed his head and went for the kill.
A loud thud and the man with green hair slumped lifeless on the ground with his arms and head in awkward angles. Green blood dripping out from his ears, eyes, nose, and mouth –– he was dead as dead could be.
The audience went wild, and the cave quaked with the sound of their booming cheers.
Sin remained unmoved by all the attention. He went to get his portion of bread before he sauntered out of the battleground without an ounce of emotion on his face. On the surface, any shred of humanity would get them killed. It was either him or them. In a fight, every second count. The battlefields were not for the indecisive.
Kill without mercy. That was his families’ teachings since time forgotten.
Sin glanced over at the forever shrouded, smoky sky, still promising no sun and just torrential poisoned rain. He arranged his tattered jacket and raised his hoodie, covering his face.
What an era to live again.
Sin wanted to retreat to his abode as soon as possible. Inside his small dilapidated scrap of rusty old metals put together, sorry of an excuse, home. It was secluded near a bunch of rocks in a desolate uneven land. It used to be an endless ocean until the tragedy centuries ago. Up in the sky, he could gaze at Heaven’s Tower that was a few kilometers from his shabby hut.
Sin knew why he built his abode near the tower. It was because he had this powerful yearning that the one he was looking for –– was up there.
At least she’s living comfortably.
His only comfort was knowing that the woman he was longing for was away from danger. Away from the surface.
The thought at least made him sleep peacefully at night.
Just as he was about to enter his little scrap house, the corner of his eyes caught four men circling something –– or someone.
He didn’t care what they were doing, but seeing the scene was playing out near Heaven’s Tower, chances were, they found something valuable like food.
His eyes narrowed, zooming on that particular spot, and his heart slammed against his chest. Reminding him, he still had a heart.
And just when I thought she was safe.
He couldn’t believe how fate could truly be so playful. Like it was bored and needed amusement.
But he didn’t have time to ponder as every second count. With his four limbs and fastest speed, he sprinted to the group. With his long extremities and agile physique, he crossed the distance between them within seconds. He didn’t waste any more time, the first man he grabbed, he snapped his neck.
The three others were stunned, and Sin took the opportunity for the kill. He bolted to one of them. The man didn’t have time to react when Sin gripped his neck, snapping it like a twig.
Sin knew attacking the body took time and effort. The best way was through the bones in their neck.
The two snapped out from their stupor. One of them dashed towards Sin, yet the latter just grabbed his arm and swiftly moved behind him and bit his neck. With sharp and robust teeth, Sin tore a mouthful of flesh and spat it on the ground.
Sin then released the man who was now jerking on the dirt, covering the heinous hole on his neck. With the amount of blood spurting from his flesh, his eyeballs rolled up, and his body turned limp.
The last person trembled with fear and sprinted away. Sin knew this event should be kept a secret, or everything would turn much more complicated and dangerous. He must kill all witnesses and fast before anyone noticed the commotion.
He seized a lying scrap of rusting metal. The muscles in his arms contracted as he twisted his body to gain momentum. Pulling all his strength, he threw the metal plate towards the fleeing man. The plate twirled in the air and hit the man straight on his waste, slicing his body in half, and dark greenish blood splattered everywhere.
Sin took a sharp intake of air before he turned to face the woman who was on the ground, trembling, but her brown eyes were steady and unyielding. His dark chapped lips curved into a smile. His frosty eyes shone for the first time since he was born in this era.
She was somewhat a girl in her teens, around sixteen, maybe. Sparkling white straight hair accompanied by blindingly pale skin. All of her was white. Even her long-sleeved above the knee dress was white. The only color to her was her dark brown eyes.
Still the same as I remember them.
Though her physical form was different, he knew –– he knew from every fiber of his being, from every cell in his body, from every vibration of his soul, from the very bottom of his quavering heart –– it’s her.
It’s definitely her!
The familiarity he felt towards her was too much. Too overwhelming to ignore!
Couldn’t help himself, he reached out and touch her –– only to be surprised when he felt a tingling pain on his palm. His eyes teared from her for a moment and slid to his palm, dripping with fresh dark greenish blood, slipping out from the cut.
Amused, he stared at her, trembling with fear, yet her eyes were unbending.
Instead of getting angry, Sin laughed. It was the first time he ever laughed since he was reborn in this period.
Still holding a small knife in front of her, the woman stared at the laughing man like he was out of his mind. Though her eyes were threatening him to stay away. She heard different stories of this so-called Kunks on the surface. Savaged and wild and would kill anyone without reason.
In truth, she never dreamed of ever stepping foot in this forsaken lands. She had nothing to do with the surface world. However, something inside her soul was stirring the moment she turned seventeen. She was unable to sleep at night like someone was calling her from the surface.
Couldn’t stand the sleepless nights anymore, she went to his father’s workplace –– the heart of Heaven’s Tower, Heaven’s laboratory.
Her father held a high position in the said lab, so it was a given that she could come and go as she pleased. She wanted to see with her own eyes the dangerous surface world. Thus, she went to the infamous restricted platform, which could transport people to the surface in a flash. She timed that there was no one around before she went inside in secret. Rarely anyone went in the restricted area because people in Heaven’s Tower had long discarded the people on the surface. The platform was left alone to rust.
Inside, she was amazed by how the said platform was so huge like it could carry thousands of people on its plate. She made her way towards the control machine at the center, and before she could stop herself, something like an invincible force prompt her to press a button.
And that’s how I came into this predicament.
When she landed ’magically’ at the surface, she didn’t know why, instead of feeling scared and nervous, she took a step out from the tower into the open desolate lands. She was overflowing with curiosity, and it was precisely because of that, that she didn’t notice the entrance to the tower closed. And when she turned to leave, the entrance was gone, like it was never there in the first place.
