Chapter 135: Words That Shake the Heart

The party was lively, and Nathan felt tired of everyone trying to be friendly to him. But he felt a big difference between Christmas and this party. Most of the Salazars were there, and they were warmer toward Nathan.

He also didn’t see Franc anywhere. It was quite strange. He hadn’t paid much attention to him in class either. Come to think of it, the boy had rarely been in class since the incident with Gabriel. Mike said the boy had taken a leave of absence from school due to illness.

And the boy was nowhere to be seen now either. Although Nathan didn’t like him, he hoped Franc was still alive.

He tried to stay away from the crowd. The party was more relaxed than Christmas, but there were more people he didn’t know, because some of them were Roger’s friends whom Nathan was seeing for the first time.

Natasha seemed to be trying to be friendly, but Nathan realized that she and Dante were keeping to themselves more than the others. Only occasionally were they seen chatting with guests.

His parents looked graceful and elegant together, with a more down-to-earth vibe than the rest of the family. Come to think of it, Nathan felt that the woman made everyone feel comfortable talking to her.

If he didn’t remember that they were the parents who had abandoned him, he might have liked Natasha personally. Dante wasn’t too bad either. The man was awkward but friendly, and he smiled easily. He spoke softly and gently.

Nathan didn’t expect his parents to be as friendly and gentle as they were. It was really hard to hate them. But he had put up a wall that was too high and too thick for them to enter his comfort zone at the moment.

Nael walked toward him and handed him a cocktail glass, again. The boy was mingling with his cousins as usual, but he made sure Nathan didn’t feel left out.

"Come on, talk with us," said Nael.

Nathan took the glass and shook his head. "No, thank you. I’ll just stand here wishing nobody would talk to me."

Nael found that strange. "Oh, come on, they’re dancing!"

Nathan looked at the people who seemed to be having fun with the ear-splitting music. He frowned. "No. Enjoy yourself, don’t mind me!"

Nathan looked at Nael seriously. The boy was worried he was lonely, but Nathan really hoped he could be alone at the moment.

But as usual, there was no peace when it came to his older brothers. They were very worried he would be lonely. If it wasn’t Malvin, then Leo would come, and now even Lucas was paying attention to him. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Nathan took a piece of cake from Lucas’s hand. "Seriously, can’t you just enjoy yourself?"

"Well, I enjoy myself. But you look so miserable in the corner. Everyone will think you’re not enjoying the party."

"Honestly, I’m not," Nathan replied honestly.

"Oh, come on, you need to go to parties, dance, be happy."

"Trust me, I can be happy by myself."

Lucas slowly gulped the drink in his glass. The clear liquid slowly disappeared down his throat.

"What is that?" asked Nathan.

"This?" Lucas shook his glass slowly. "Tequila. You want some?"

Lucas offered his glass, which still had a little liquid left in it. But then he pulled it back.

"Oops, no. Alex will beat me if he knows I gave you alcohol," he said quickly, as if suddenly realizing something.

Nathan was offended. "I’m not a child!"

"Yep, but you can only drink wine until you’re 18, at least."

"Wine is the same. It has alcohol too. It’s nonsense."

Lucas chuckled. "You have to bear with it. Alexander rules. No alcohol, only wine until 18. I had the same suffering before I turned 18." He laughed so hard it was almost insulting to Nathan.

Nathan felt that Lucas’s attitude had changed since the incident in the racing car. Although he was still annoying in some ways, the young man seemed to be trying harder to get closer to him.

"You really close to that motherfucker?" Lucas asked suddenly.

"Who?" Nathan asked, confused. They were talking about cars and suddenly changed the subject.

"Leinster."

Nathan understood immediately. "Yes, and he is not a fucker. He is a nice boy." He didn’t accept Lucas insulting his boyfriend.

"You think? Oh, how many times has he fucked around and caused drama?" said Lucas.

Nathan stared at Lucas. He knew that Lucas and Zane didn’t have a good relationship. But he felt like he knew Zane better.

"Don’t talk nonsense. What do you mean by ’fucked around’?"

Lucas finished his drink, quite surprised to hear Nathan’s annoyed tone. He hadn’t intended to talk about it seriously, but he saw that Nathan was really upset about it.

"Nothing. Just be careful. Don’t even think about dating him, if you’re interested in men, I mean," he said.

Nathan looked at Lucas seriously.

Lucas looked at Nathan, who was still staring at him seriously. "Seriously! He has many lovers! Don’t be like him. You can be naughty, just don’t play with other people’s hearts."

Nathan felt something strange crawling inside his chest, making him uncomfortable. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Zane, but Lucas’s words made him realize something, that he didn’t know the boy well enough to truly stand up for him.

He didn’t know about Zane’s romantic history before him.

He had to ask Zane seriously, he didn’t want this doubt to strain their relationship.

Lucas looked around, grinning slightly. He patted Nathan on the shoulder and asked him to look in the direction he was pointing with his chin.

"You see him? He’s fucking crazy. He’s Roger’s friend. One time he told me he loves me. You know how much Roger swore at him?"

Nathan looked at the handsome man wearing a cute sweater among his friends, laughing. Accidentally, the man also looked at him at the same time, but then immediately looked away.

"So you’re dating him?" asked Nathan. The man was very cute and seemed nice.

"Of course not. I still love girls. And I have a girlfriend anyway."

Nathan was silent. "But he said he loves you. You broke his heart."

Lucas chuckled, looking at his younger brother. "You know he might say that to everyone. You can’t just believe people because they say they love you."

Nathan was silent. Why not? If they like each other?

He pondered for a moment, thinking about what Zane had said to him, that the boy loved him. And he quickly assumed they were dating after that.

"So not everyone who says they love you really loves you?" said Nathan, as if talking to himself.

Lucas grabbed a glass from the waiter walking in front of him and gulped it down. "Of course not," he replied lightly, without thinking.
