Legacy Of Fire: Chronicles Of The F-ranked Anomaly-Chapter 123: Above The Law
"What are you trying to say?" Liu turned in rage, looking at Keith; he wasn’t going to take that news as reality.
"You know that there is no way for me to believe that only Nathan Cruz made it out of that dungeon alive."
Keith let out a sigh; he was not sure how to say it, but then he had to make sure that Liu didn’t go into the dungeon.
"We are still waiting; calm down, Liu." He got up from his desk, handing him a paper.
"Nathan even confirmed that Orcs killed all his guild members, so he asked for his family, and now he is officially under the Crest of the Cruz family."
Liu angrily stared at Keith, still not wanting to believe a word that Nathan had told him. He took the paper; looking at it, he saw something very intriguing.
"How is this—"
"Just like we discussed with the chairman, there are families above the law, and if they keep going like this, then the Creston Warrior Association would face serious problems."
Keith sounded disappointed; he didn’t want to keep anything going on like that, but then what could he do?
"So you are saying that even with no evidence that he is going to get all his money, nothing would happen if it turns out to be a lie?" Liu had a brow raised; he wondered if what he was hearing was the truth.
"Make it make sense to me, Keith. There are three SS-ranks still missing, an S-rank, and two of our transponders, yet this man who went in with his guild has gotten his pay even though there is no evidence showing that what he said is true in any way."
Keith could see what Liu was trying to say, but what could he do?
"Liu, my hands are tied. So are yours; we can’t—"
Keith was cut off when he heard the beep in the machine in front of him.
Both of the officials suddenly smiled; it was an alert from the watch crew that someone was coming through the gate.
"They’re back!"
Both men yelled in unison as they bolted out of the office.
At the dungeon gate, Darius, Theo, Raya, and the Transponders stood there waiting for the officials to come.
They had brought the dead body of a Ghastly Ghouls member out with them. It was not clear what was going to happen, but the look on Darius’s face was enough to tell them that there was going to be trouble and nothing was going to stop him.
"Mr. Winters..."
A voice rang out from the distance, and it turned out to be Keith; he and Liu had gotten there in a few minutes using their top speed.
Darius was looking at them; his expression was still unreadable.
"Darius, thank goodness you all are okay." Liu had a smile on his face, but as he walked closer, he could see that Darius wasn’t even smiling.
He looked to the side to see that there was a dead body next to them, and it was clear that something was going on.
"What happened?" He asked Darius, but then the white-haired warrior didn’t say anything but looked at him with pure rage written all over his face.
"Nathan Cruz..."
Theo spoke up, and Liu and Keith turned to look at him.
Liu turned to Keith; it was clear that there was something that they would actually have to solve now.
"What did he do?" Keith asked, trying to keep everything a bit calm, looking at the warriors.
No one said a thing; it was almost like they didn’t want trouble there and then.
"Sir,"
One of the transponders stepped forward; he was looking down, knowing that what he was going to say would be trouble.
"Nathan Cruz attacked my partner inside the dungeon, delivering a blow that was meant to kill him." The transponder turned to the dead body.
"And when we were about to leave the dungeon, we saw this man who was crawling out of the forest in the dungeon. When we asked him how he got so hurt, thinking that it was the Orcs that the warriors had faced, but it wasn’t, he confirmed that Nathan Cruz had struck them down and killed the remaining members of the Ghastly Ghouls."
Keith stood there looking at the warriors, his mind filled with horror.
He didn’t know what he was going to say, but then they had just revealed everything that Liu said moments ago to him as the truth.
"So you’re saying that he didn’t even hold back?" Keith asked the transponder, but he didn’t want to believe that they were all trying to say one thing.
"No, sir, if it weren’t for Darius Winters, who stopped him. Both of us would be dead, and there was no way for anyone to even stand here now."
Liu grunted in anger. He knew that there was a chance that they had gone through working, but then they didn’t know if they were ready to hear that Nathan betrayed them like that.
He turned to Darius; the young warrior wasn’t even in the mood to start smiling immediately. "So you’re saying that he was not even trying to act differently?"
Darius shook his head; he was angry, but he wasn’t going to let anger cloud his mind all day.
"There has to be something done about this," he said, turning to Liu, but the look he got was enough to tell him that there wasn’t going to be anything done about it.
Liu was quiet; he didn’t know what he would tell Darius, and he was trying his best to keep everything in order.
"We will have to look for a way to get things in order." Liu was looking at Darius but seeing what was happening in front of him. He knew that Darius wasn’t going to let it slide.
"We will look for a way to make sure that he—"
"You know that there is no way for us to get things done, Liu. This isn’t something we are going to be able to promise him; there has to be another way."
Keith spoke up; he didn’t want to let anything make Darius or anyone do anything rash.
"Keith, you heard what they said. He is the one who killed his guild members and tried to kill two officials, but then you want him to go free."
Liu was looking at Keith, trying to push some reasoning behind what he said.
"He is under his family crest; we can’t do anything to hurt Nathan now. He came back here wounded, trying to make sure that nothing is going to—"
"What do you mean by that?!"
Darius was in pure rage; he didn’t know what he was going to do to hold back the urge he had to find Nathan.
Keith turned to the young warrior; he could see that there was going to be a problem if they didn’t look for a way to make sure that he was contained.
"I said that he is under his family’s crest and there is no way for any of us to pass judgment."
"What in the actual hell does that mean?" Darius stepped forward; his words were heavy, and it was like he didn’t want to cause a scene, but it was late already.
"He killed his guild members and tried to kill two men in front of us, yet you say we should let him be?!"
The white-haired warrior was in pure rage; his anger was not even being controlled.
’Darius, don’t use your mana in any way. You will have a burnout’. Azree warned, Darius was doing his best to hold his anger in, but hearing all that was going on made him even angrier.
Gritting his teeth, Darius could hear Azrees’s voice in his head, and he was a bit calm. ’Believe me, Azree, I am doing my best to hold it in here, but there is nothing I can do about this, and it is making me angry.’
’Try harder; you don’t have enough to spare, so please make sure that you aren’t going to use it to hunt someone down.’ You will exhaust your core, and then you might enter another three-day coma.’
Darius was looking at Keith and Liu, his mind still trying to get in order.
"So what you’re saying is that there is no way for him to be under any punishment for what he did?"
"No, he is practically above the law, and anyone who dares hurt him would be seen as a criminal and will face the Hiztan Law." Keith calmly said.
"The Hiztan Law?" Darius was confused; he hadn’t heard of anything like that.
"It’s a law that gives a warrior family or clan the right to do what they want with you or your family. It makes them invincible, and there is nothing anyone can do about it."
Theo explained he was looking at Darius, and he could see the pure rage in his eyes.
"Darius, let’s get back home. Lena would be worried sick; leave Nathan for now."
"Yes, he’s right, Darius." Liu backed Theo up; he didn’t want Darius to keep his mind on Nathan’s matter.
"We will look for a way to handle all this, so for now we would want you warriors to get some rest. Your payments will be processed."
Darius was looking down; he knew what it meant for him to be told to calm down. Letting out a sigh of defeat, he turned and walked to Theo and the others.
"Alright, captain, I will do as you say." Darius bowed his head; not going for Narban was crushing him.
Theo smiled; he bowed his head too. Knowing that he wouldn’t last a minute against Darius, he was happy to see that there was a chance he was able to tell him what to do.
"I am grateful."
