Chapter 11 - Embers Of Escape(2)
[Alea's POV]
Updat𝓮d from freewēbnoveℓ.com.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH" a scream of agony echoed in the estate of Blitzfeld as fire started devouring the gardens of roses and lilies before me.
The scream came from a guard—one of the many stationed for night duty—but that duty of his had turned into something that would scar that man for life. He lay trembling on the garden field, one of his legs on fire.
But what made me shiver was not that man's painful scream as he suffered or the lilies and roses turning into black charcoal.
No.
It was the young man before me.
His wheat blonde hair which was now covered in streaks of blood shone in the fire, and his body which had lost a few pounds was covered by black attire and a black cloak as if he were the shadows themselves. His right shoulder was charred with the lightning bolt I unleashed on him.
"What will you do now? Will you save him and put out the fire?" He paused a sly smile appearing on his lips, "Or chase me and let the estate burn down"
His shimmering silver eyes met mine, reflecting a mix of intense fury and undeniable triumph, as if he had been yearning for this moment all along. The fire of his determination to break free from the Blitzfeld shone brightly within those captivating jewels. He seemed prepared to go to great lengths, even at the cost of the innocent, showing the depth of his desperation.
It was not the Noah I knew.
It all felt so confusing. My mind was in a daze, with thoughts swirling around me. What had happened? The same boy who used to shy away from others was now standing confidently in front of me, completely transformed. What could have changed in just a week? How did he undergo such a remarkable shift?
But other than all that, the most important thing for me—No—for the entirety of the Blitzfeld Duchy was the awakening of his legacy. How did he do that? Wasn't he declared incompetent to awaken The Storm God's Legacy? Then, how?
The Storm God, Thorvian, holds a special place in the hearts of the Blitzfeld family, cherished and revered through generations. As members of the Blitzfeld bloodline, we proudly carry a spark of his essence and legacy—an incredible gift that allows us to wield the powers of the Storm God.
This power was passed on to the generations of the Blitzfeld even before the finding of the Germainia Empire, during the Second Era of Light. A legacy that would allow one to bend the lightning to his or her will. A legacy so destructive that it made the Blitzfelds one of the strongest families.
But no matter how strong a legacy is, there are those who are not competent enough to possess them—Defects. And to me, Noah was a part of those defective ones. But after seeing the amethyst purple lightning crackling around him, seems like it is no longer the case. He had awakened The Storm God's Legacy.
The crackling lightning around Noah vanished in an instant along with him, he was heading for the back gate to escape. But why? The same Noah who wanted to be acknowledged by our parents, was now running away right after unlocking his powers.
He would've easily earned their acknowledgment and praises with his awakening albeit late but now he does not seem interested in it anymore.
'Now is not the right time to ponder on such things' I slapped myself on my cheeks and got my whirlwind of thoughts beside me. For now, I had to stop the fire that was enveloping a small part of the vast garden, but if it burned for anymore longer. The estate mansion might catch fire.
I ran towards the shivering guard and knelt beside his burning leg, he was still trembling and crying in agony. His face was marred with a stab wound and an expression of pain that would run shivers down anyone's spine.
[Freeze] I muttered extending my arms towards his burning leg.
A cold and blue light surrounded the palms of both of my hands and shot out towards the guard's leg. A blue crystalline material encased his leg and extinguished the fire. The guard's expression was now a bit of relief but he had to be tended to, he was bleeding from his cheek.
"Young Lady!" A guard came before me along with two more hooded people. "They are water magic users, they can put out the flames"
"Good decision, now get to work," I said looking at them.
"Yes, you two! Put out the flames, Fast!" The guard ordered the two hooded people behind.
They both nodded and gathered mana around their extended hands as sprinkles of water dropped upon the burning flowers, calming down the raging flames. The aftermath was as if the ground had been mixed with charcoal.
"Good work, you three" I complimented them for their well-deserved efforts and pointed toward the guard whose leg was encased in ice, "Take him to the infirmary and treat his wounds"
"Yes, Lady Alea" The guard replied as he gestured to the magicians to help carry the injured guard back to the infirmary of the knight barracks.
I turned around and walked through the burnt-down garden making my toward the mansion. I have to report all of the happenings to my father and also dispatch a unit after Noah. The night had not ended yet, there was more work to do.
...
...
A muscular man sat on his chair which was padded with fine leather. He faced towards the window in the room looking outside at the dark night sky. The room was filled with bookshelves that reached the ceiling and luxurious furniture which further increased its grandeur. The wooden desk in the room was filled with papers related to the matters of the Blitzfeld Duchy.
"So, he escaped?" The man asked his voice indifferent. He turned around, placed his arms on the desk, and rested his chin on top of his dorsal, making eye contact with me. His amethyst eyes did not show anger or fury just disappointment.
Beside him stood a woman, her beautiful lavender hair flowed down to her waist. She was wearing a white nightgown similar to mine. Her emerald eyes gazed at the man who was sitting on the chair. These two people were none other than the Duke and the Duchess.
Friedrich Von Blitzfeld and Lorelle Von Blitzfeld. My father and his first wife.
"Yes," I replied.
"But how?" The Duchess asked her voice filled with annoyance. After I reported Noah's escape to our father, she also tagged along with him although I don't care, she is his mother whether she hates him or not.
"He first tried to sneak out through the back gate" I relayed, "But since I caught him and almost captured him, he stabbed a guard in his cheek and set the estate garden on fire. But the fire was put down quickly due to another guard's quick decision making"
"I see, you can go now, Alea" Father replied crossing his arms, his face seemed like he was pondering about something.
"What about Noah, Father?" I asked.
"We will dispatch a few knights," He said turning his chair towards the window again, "But, I know where he will go."
"Where?"
"To Josephine's place in the countryside," Duchess Lorelle spoke up, "And if we hurry now, we can catch that thing in the town of Donnerwall"
'That thing, huh'
She meant Noah, even treating her own son like this but that does not matter to me. I only follow my father's will, and now his will is to capture Noah. So, I will follow it diligently.
"Then, I will excuse myself," I said turning on my heel and heading for the chamber door.
'Wait'
"Father," I called out to him again before opening the door.
"What is it, Alea?" He asked meeting my gaze again.
"Noah has awakened his Legacy"
"..."
"..."
Both of them fell silent as soon as the words left my mouth. They stared at me with widened eyes of shock. The Duchess's mouth opened and closed as if she wanted to say something but couldn't.
"I-is it true?" The duchess asked, her voice wavered due to the shocking words I muttered.
"Yes, the color of his lightning changed to a purple amethyst hue unlike before, where it was blue" I looked towards Father who had an unreadable expression. But, there was a slight twitch in his eyebrows but as fast as it occurred it disappeared at the same speed.
"Now then, I will excuse myself," I said grabbing the handle of the door and opening it to leave the chamber.
'I will see you soon, Noah'
