Even though Elias was curious about the previous owner of the sword, that didn’t change the fact that the sword was too talkative.

Its loyalty to its previous owner was also problematic, especially since it was demanding to be taken back to him.

"I remember it now!" the sword declared. "Every time he was with others, people would look at him with fear and address him as the descendant of that family. It was so annoying at the time."

The Ego seemed to be lost in thoughts of the past, reminiscing about the good times.

"If you knew the name of that family, you would have an easier time escorting me back. It was the Ashborn Family. That was his family’s name. My master was Aliath Ashborn, the eldest son of the Ashborn Family."

Elias’s gaze was focused on the map, even though he split some of his attention to the sword. But the moment he heard the name, his fingers, which had been tracing the map, came to a sudden halt.

"What did you say?" he asked, his frown deepening.

The sword belonged to Aliath? As he heard the stories about Aliath from the others, he had formed a rough impression in his mind of a cold person who had no friends in the academy.

A person like this had a sword with an ego that cursed in every other sentence? He would’ve even thought that the sword was lying, but that didn’t seem to be the case, as the sword was truly eager to return to its true master.

"Have you heard of him? What am I even asking? Of course, you have heard of him. My master would’ve become a legend by now. But you don’t have to worry. When you take me back to my master, you will be heavily rewarded by him."

"Who knows, if you’re lucky, he might even accept you as a personal servant. Just think about it! You will serve the eldest son of the Ashborn Family! Aren’t you excited at the thought? You can drool if you want. I won’t look down on you."

Elias had already guessed that the owner of this Sword was someone strong. But for it to be his eldest brother, was a thought that never crossed his mind. It was especially the case since the sword was so plain and had no marking of the Asbborn Family.

When he heard the sword speak, the thought of Aliath being its owner became even more distant. It was why this came as such a shock to him.

He didn’t even know what to think about it. The ego became even more valuable to him with this revelation. Even if it was for a short time, this sword knew Aliath! Maybe it knew him better than even the others did.

"Why did you go silent? Are you also one of those that get scared after hearing that family’s name? I told you, don’t worry. My master isn’t as bad as people make him out to be. He’s just misunderstood. You’ll see what I’m talking about when we return to him."

"How do you know that he isn’t bad? You haven’t seen him for years. How can you be certain that he hasn’t changed? In this cruel world, is there truly anyone that could be called innocent?" Elias asked the sword. "Everything changes with time, even the people that you know."

The sword had only been with Aliath when he was a child. At that time, he had fought with Professor Lilian, and then entered the Land of Fables. The Sword was left here, and didn’t know what happened after that time.

It didn’t know that Aliath had slaughtered every single person in his class. Elias didn’t pretend to know about his reasons, or if he even had a good reason in the first place. He didn’t feel pity for the people of his class, as this academy was only for the people that were the worst of the worst in his eyes.

He didn’t worry if Aliath was a good person, or a bad person as this was none of his concern at the moment. Even if he was a bad person, what could he even do about this? Moreover, that man had already disappeared a long time ago, even his life or death was uncertain.

"Hmph, if my master became a bad person, it must mean that the others deserved it. There’s nothing wrong with it."

"Maybe..." Elias trailed off, realizing that this wasn’t a conversation that could be concluded quickly. He shifted his complete focus to the map and removed his hands from the sword, effectively silencing the ego.

The map had many locations marked as extremely dangerous. Meanwhile, there were a few locations designated as recommended.

The map also indicated the highest grade of soul beast that could be found in each region of the Land of Fable. Looking at the trajectory of the Beast of Decay, he could see that they were headed toward the central region of the Land of Fables.

Even though it was farther than the other regions, it also had the highest grade of Soul Beasts, according to the map. If he were alone, reaching the central region would be more troublesome, but with the Beast of Decay, things were a little easier.

Atop the giant beast, it felt more peaceful. The chances of being attacked here seemed quite low, which made him consider undergoing his first evolution here.

As per the map, they weren’t going to go past any danger zones, and it seemed like this was going to be the case for at least the next couple of days.

He closed the map and stored it back in his storage space before touching the sword again. "I need to go through my first evolution."

"Go ahead. Why are you telling me?" The ego scoffed, sounding somewhat grumpy after being ignored for so long.

"I’m telling you because I need you to keep an eye on me."

"Did you also lose your mind? I’m a sword. I can’t fly or fight without someone wielding me. How can I keep an eye on you?"

"You don’t have to worry about that. I’ll make sure you can do more." Elias didn’t take the insult to heart, as he had already devised a plan.

Hearing his suspicious words, the ego had a bad feeling about it.

Initially, Elias had wanted to test it later, but now that he had a reason and an opportunity, he didn’t want to delay any further. He already had an ego and the other necessary materials. It was the perfect time for his main experiment.
