Legendary Beast Master: Starting with Contracting SSS Rank Dragon-Chapter 42: Nether Realm?
Chapter 42 - Nether Realm?
Kael had many thoughts about Tharnyx and the mysteries surrounding him. He was transmigrated because of the sealed dragon, then how did Tharnyx come to this world?
Was he also summoned by the Beast God? And what exactly happened back then for him to leave behind such words?
"Beware of the Fire! Don't trust the Gods! Don't worship them!"
He could guess the reasoning behind the first sentence, as it involved fire. Perhaps, Tharnyx had created this Labyrinth after the Beast God died at the hands of Goddess Dawnfire.
That would also explain his warning about the fire and his hatred towards the Gods. Kael didn't blame him for it, as the Gods did make the lives of all beasts miserable.
After all, the Beast God was dead, so they could have helped the beasts like they were helping other races, but they not only refused to help them, they even restricted the ways through which the beasts could get stronger.
From the beasts' point of view, all gods seemed to be very evil and were a target of hate for all beasts.
Kael didn't make an opinion on gods without having any knowledge, but he also didn't like the way beasts were treated.
'I am beware of the Dawnfire, and I also don't trust the Gods. As for worship, that's the last thing I'll do.'
Kael sighed, thinking that he was taking everything at face value and there could be a deeper meaning behind the warning. Alas, he couldn't think of anything abnormal.
'Do not worship the Gods, huh.'
He shook his head and turned towards Kiona, who was waiting patiently for him. Her behaviour warmed his heart and comforted some of his unsettling emotions.
Pointing at the plaque, Kael asked, "Have you ever seen this language before?"
Kiona thought about it for a second before shaking her head, "Is there any problem with it?"
By now, she was sure that Kael could actually read the strange language, which made her curious about the words that this legendary figure had left behind.
Kael wasn't disappointed hearing that, as he felt that Tharnyx wanted to do something and he couldn't do that openly. That's why he made the Labyrinth so deep in the Valoran Wilds where other races wouldn't reach.
'Perhaps he wanted to spread some knowledge, but he didn't expect the restrictions the Gods would place. Or maybe the Gods placed the restrictions after seeing his suspicious moves.'
Kiona couldn't hold back her curiosity anymore and asked, "What is written on it, Master?"
"Beware of the Fire! Don't trust the Gods! Don't worship them!"
He repeated the words solemnly before moving toward the wooden gate. He knew Kiona could guess the general meaning behind the words too.
He pushed the door as it creaked open, revealing a completely different realm. It was a vast volcanic region filled with lava lakes, a dark red sky, and many stone bridges that seemed to lead toward the volcanic mountain.
As he was still in the room, he didn't feel the heat, but he was sure it was because of a barrier. Once he stepped inside, he would be assaulted by powerful, heated bursts of winds.
The Labyrinths usually had many floors, hosting a different biome in a separate dimension of their own, which was also the reason people believed that the Labyrinths were made by Gods.
The creation of such levels couldn't be done by even Demi-Gods, let alone mortals. There was also a function inside the Labyrinths that made them so special.
It was the respawning function of Labyrinths. Depending on the floor, the Labyrinth would get reset, in which it respawned all the monsters that had been killed. There were also special spawner chambers that didn't wait for reset and continuously produced monsters.
The best thing about this method was that people could still get Soul Power from these monsters and they didn't have to run around to find them. It was also an endless supply.
The monsters were just a part of the Labyrinth rather than being alive like others. Some of them could be intelligent enough to fight like intelligent races, but they were still technically not alive.
As for how they generated Soul Power, nobody had a clue. The excuse that Gods made it solved the issue for them. After all, Gods were divine beings, so creating soul force shouldn't be a problem for them.
But Kael doubted it was entirely true since creating Soul Power, which generated from souls, meant that Gods could create souls—something that, for some reason, he found hard to believe.
Still, he didn't ponder over it and thought about the problems of the Labyrinths. The first and most important was that one would get half of the Soul Power inside the Labyrinth compared to outside.
If a human was getting 10 EXP for killing another human of Rank F outside, then they would get 5 for the same task inside, especially if they killed monsters.
The other problem was that Labyrinths were usually harder and more dangerous because of many factors like biomes, corrupted monsters, etc. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
As he looked at the volcanic region before him, Kael thought, 'This is good for our first trip because of their affinity. I also have my leather armour, so I should be fine with my physique.'
Gesturing to his team, he stepped inside the wooden door and was instantly slapped by the hot winds right on his face. The sudden change in temperature threw his body balance off, but he quickly controlled it.
The other three were better in this regard because of their affinity.
"It's the first floor, and it usually spawns F-Rank monsters," Kael said. "Do you want to explore it or quickly head down to the lower floors?"
"I'm close to ranking up to D-Rank, so I think I can stay here for a bit," Kiona said, clenching her fists. "I also have an advantage over here."
Just as Kael was going to say something in response, he sensed an incoming threat and pulled his head backward, only to see a Fireball slicing past him, leaving behind a red tail.
It exploded beside him, sending the dark brown rocks flying everywhere. He turned around and found a humanoid skeleton standing not far from them on one of the stone bridges.
It raised the wooden bow once again and released the string. Its movements were swift and precise, as the arrow, which turned into a Fireball once again, shot toward them.
The four of them easily dodged it by jumping to the side, as Kael chuckled to himself.
'The hell? Did this guy even copied Minecraft? This is the fucking Nether realm.'
He didn't know whether to laugh or cry, as he looked at the skeleton. It was actually square-shaped, which made him even more amused.
His predecessor was actually a diehard fan of a game and even designed a Labyrinth floor based on that. Kael wondered if he would encounter some other monsters or biomes from the game.
Or maybe even other games? Or from novels?
The possibilities were endless since the guy was creative and also played a lot of games.
'Still, how did the first floor begin to spawn E-Rank undead monsters right off the bat?'
