Special Investigation Team, office area.

Pushing open the door to the office area, Luo An shook the folder in his hand:

"Ladies and gentlemen, team supervisor Potante Byrne has brought us a new gift."

"Wow."

Mona expressed her surprise without any change in her expression, Michelle didn't speak, and Reesi put down her coffee cup and asked:

"What kind of gift is it?"

"The kind every parent in the world fears the most."

Luo An handed the folder to Mona:

"A few hours ago, a 6-year-old girl disappeared from her home."

Upon hearing this, Reesi's brows knitted tightly:

"It doesn't look like the work of human traffickers."

Human traffickers seldom steal children from their homes.

"It might be a kidnapping for ransom."

Luo An patted Michelle's arm, signaling her and Mona to stay in the office to review the surveillance around the location where the child disappeared and to gather information on the parents of the missing child.

"Reesi, you and I will go to the scene."

"No problem!"

In the eastern part of Los Angeles, a residential villa area.

A bald white police chief walked Luo An and Reesi into the villa, saying as they moved:

"The intruder broke into this villa about three hours ago, around 2:20 PM."

"A cozy villa... but a terrifying story."

Luo An scanned the layout and furnishings of the villa and asked:

"Where did the intruder enter from?"

"The back door."

The bald police chief led the two to the villa's back door, where the glass near the door handle was already shattered.

It wasn't hard to deduce that the intruder's method of entry was to break the glass and reach inside to unlock the back door.

"OK."

Luo An stepped forward to closely examine the broken glass. After a moment of thought, Reesi asked:

"Does this villa have an alarm system?"

"Indeed it does, but unfortunately, it didn't serve its purpose."

The bald police chief led Reesi to the second floor of the villa, and at the stairway landing on the second floor, Reesi saw the body of a plump white woman.

"Samira Lee, 45 years old, the family's full-time nanny, had been working for this family for 8 years.

Perhaps due to negligence or some other reason, the villa's alarm system was not activated."

Reesi bent down to look at the woman's body on the floor with a bullet hole in her forehead, her expression growing uneasy:

"So, the intruder entered from the villa's back door, went upstairs with a gun, killed the nanny, and then took the child?"

"Yeah."

The bald police chief nodded, leading Reesi into the little girl's room and pointing to a toy clock in the corner, he said:

"This is a surveillance device. At the time of the incident, the child's mother was out shopping. When she wanted to check on her daughter during her break, she noticed the girl wasn't in her room and couldn't reach the nanny by phone.

Worried, the mother immediately called the neighbors for help, and then the neighbors reported it to the police."

"A situation that leaves a psychological shadow."

Seeing the pink bedroom filled with childish warmth, Reesi frowned and pointed to the monitor:

"Does this thing record video?"

The bald police chief spread his hands helplessly and said:

"No, it's just for live monitoring, there's no footage."

"That's really bad news."

Meanwhile, downstairs in the villa, Luo An gestured to call over an agent from the trace examination department:

"See if there are any bloodstains or other traces on these pieces of glass. Also, check the door handle for fingerprints of the intruder."

The agent from the trace examination department nodded repeatedly:

"Alright, no problem."

"You've had a tough time."

After leaving through the back door, heading towards the villa's living room, a female LAPD officer was sitting on the sofa, quietly comforting a middle-aged Caucasian woman with burgundy long hair who was softly sobbing.

This woman was the mother of the missing little girl, Madeline Allen.

Seeing Luo An arrive, the female LAPD officer showed him a smile, then left the living room of the villa.

Upon recognizing Luo An's FBI identity, Madeline immediately leaned forward, grabbed Luo An's arm, and said excitedly:

"How is it? Have you found my daughter? Found any clues? Oh, God..."

"I am very sorry for what happened to your daughter, but please trust me, Ms. Allen, we will do our utmost to help find your daughter."

Luo An spoke softly to calm Madeline Allen before having her sit back on the sofa. Seeing Reesi arrive and take out her notebook, Luo An began to inquire:

"Ms. Allen, we did not see any men's belongings in the villa, is it just you and your daughter living here? What about the child's father?"

"We are divorced, we parted amicably."

Madeline Allen, while wiping away tears, explained:

"He works in another state for the federal government, and he has a new girlfriend there.

I've just called him, and he's on his way back on a flight."

Luo An kept his composure and continued to ask:

"Have you had any recent arguments over the child? Is it possible that he..."

"No, absolutely not."

Madeline Allen shook her head repeatedly:

"Our relationship has always been good, the divorce was just due to work issues, we're still friends.

And John, he's a good man, he treats Kara well, and also nice to Samira, he would never do such a thing."

John is the name of the ex-husband, and Kara is the name of the daughter Madeline Allen lost.

Reesi, who was beside them, paused for a few seconds before asking:

"Have you had any conflicts with anyone recently? Can you think of anyone who would take your daughter?"

"I work at a securities company, and there are only small work-related conflicts with colleagues, nothing that would escalate to the family level."

As she spoke, Madeline Allen became agitated again:

"Oh, God, I really never imagined this could happen to me..."

Seeing this, Reesi quickly pulled out a tissue and started consoling her in a low voice.

When Madeline Allen's emotions gradually stabilized, Luo An said:

"To help us find Kara as quickly as possible, we need a DNA sample from her, so we'll take some of her toothbrush, comb hair, etc.

Also, we need to monitor your mobile phone, as well as the landline in your house, in case the kidnapper calls to demand a ransom..."

"No problem, no problem, it's all fine."

Madeline Allen nodded repeatedly:

"As long as you can find my daughter, you can do whatever you need."

"OK."

While Reesi continued to calm Madeline Allen down, Luo An gestured to the agents from the Forensic Unit to install surveillance equipment.

While everyone was busily at work, Luo An stepped into a corner and called Mona on his mobile phone:

"How is it going, Mona? What have you found out about the surveillance in the surrounding area?"

"Regrettably, there are no clues."

Michelle in the office area shook her head and replied:

"The surveillance did not reveal any suspicious vehicles."

"Michelle, keep checking the list of sex offenders in the nearby area."

Luo An's expression remained unchanged:

"What about Kara's parents? Is there any unusual information about them?"

"Kara's mother, Madeline Allen, is the manager of a securities firm in Los Angeles.

Kara's father, John Rodriguez, is a partner at a chemical company in Ohio.

Both individuals are in good financial standing, and there's nothing unusual in their call records."

"A wealthy couple."

Luo An glanced at the time, noted that four hours had passed since Kara's disappearance, and said:

"Monitor the phones in Madeline Allen's house first. If the kidnapper is after money, we must be informed immediately."

"No problem."
