Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 65: Undercover? (Seeking Follow-up! Seeking Favorites!)
Leaving the office area of the investigation team five, walking on the outside corridor, DEA's special agent Maren looked gloomy.
Hesitating for a moment, he looked back and saw Augustus laughing heartily with his arm around Luo An's shoulder, his mouth corners immediately downturned.
"I've told you before, Maren."
Seeing the expression on his friend's face, FBI organized crime division's Agent Norton patted his shoulder, laughing:
"Although Luo An has only been officially an agent for less than a week after his internship, he has already solved a serial murder and dismemberment case.
He's not those naive youths who you've convinced with a few words to willingly go undercover in gangs."
"Hey, Norton, going undercover isn't stupid, OK?"
Hearing Norton's words, Maren immediately felt displeased, just about to explain, but Norton spread his hands and asked:
"How many of your DEA people who were sent undercover have come back alive? How long did they serve undercover? Did they get promoted after coming back? Did they receive any bonuses after?
Your DEA methods of sending people undercover are too rough, Luo An Greenwood is a promising FBI agent, I've told you before, he wouldn't agree to do such a job."
Without waiting for Maren to answer, Norton chuckled, patted his shoulder, and strode into the elevator.
Although the FBI organized crime department also deals with gangs and he didn't know the full data of DEA's undercover success rate, he could guess.
Anyway, it's not high.
"... Hmph."
With a cold snort, Maren no longer spoke nonsense, gave a cold look at the area of investigation team five, and strode into the elevator.
——
"Well done, Luo An."
At the doorway of investigation team five, seeing Norton and Maren enter the elevator, Augustus patted Luo An's shoulder, laughing and nodding continuously with satisfaction:
"When you took the check earlier, I was actually about to remind you, but unexpectedly you saw through DEA's intentions by yourself, not bad, smart!"
"Thank you, chief."
Luo An chuckled, not saying much else.
As an assassin, the most important thing is to trust your own instincts, the first time he met Agent Maren, Luo An felt uncomfortable with him.
Initially, he thought there might be some issue with the African-American Joan, or something inappropriate was said, and Maren was here to cause trouble, but it turned out he was here to deliver a check.
However, after receiving the check, the uncomfortable feeling Maren gave him persisted, and considering the nature of DEA's work, Luo An quickly guessed the other party's purpose:
Most likely pulling him to go undercover!
Of course, considering he already made a TV appearance in New York, the undercover location couldn't be New York.
DEA's operational scope covers the entire federation, changing to another city, for instance, Chicago, or even further south, wouldn't be a problem.
After all, people there wouldn't read the New York Daily.
Regarding the job of going undercover, Luo An had only one thought:
Hehe.
Undercover work is one of the highest-risk jobs in the world.
To survive till the end requires brains, strength, luck, and a dependable chief.
Lacking any one of these, and you might wake up to find yourself sunk at the bottom of the Hudson River.
Luo An looked down at himself, having money, looks, and prospects, why should he take up such a strenuous and thankless job?
And it isn't even an FBI job?
So earlier, he blocking the other party's attempt decisively with his words: "Thank you for the check, in the future, if needed, I will provide you all support apart from help!"
The two walked back to the office area of investigation team five, Augustus asked tilting his head:
"How about it, any leads on the 'Lake Female Corpse Serial Murder Case'?"
"A little."
Luo An nodded, sharing with Augustus the connection he found among the four victims, which is their marriage experience at the Little Saint Phil Church, and then said:

"I plan to check the list of newlyweds who have married in that church, to see if I can find new victims and thereby extract more information related to the murderer."
"OK."
Regarding Luo An's idea, Augustus didn't say much. He nodded affirmatively, indicating that he should send a message if support is needed, then turned his head and headed to Vireness's office.
It was said that Virene had something to find him about.
Sitting back at his own workstation, beside him, Mona's fingers danced on the keyboard. Seeing Luo An return, she immediately stopped what she was doing and, pointing at the computer with a tilt of her head, showed a discontent face:
"One good news and one bad news, Luo An, which one do you want to hear first?"
Luo An paused, and said speechlessly:
"Let's start with the bad news."
Mona pursed her lips, pointing at the computer and said:
"The bad news is, you asked me to check murder cases, assault cases, stalking cases, and indecent assault cases centered around Little Saint Phil Church. It's just too much to handle!
The area is too large, and there are countless cases! Just in New Jersey alone, there are more than a dozen unsolved murder cases!
And those are just the reported ones. Some people die on the street, and after the New Jersey police clean up the bodies, no conclusions are drawn..."
Hearing Mona's words, Luo An frowned deeply.
It's no wonder, in America where an average of 120 people die from shootings every day, a person's death in densely populated places like New York and New Jersey really isn't a big deal.
"What's the good news then?"
Mona pursed her lips and after tapping on the keyboard for a bit, a circle appeared on the computer screen:
"Following your request, when I was investigating the cases around the Little Saint Phil Church, I drew a circle with a radius of 3 miles.
It turns out, the state boundary lake where the four victims' bodies were found, as well as the victims' homes, are within this circle."
"What did you say?"
Seeing the circle on the computer, Luo An's eyes widened in surprise.
But seeing the endless list of cases on the computer, Luo An's mouth twitched, he pondered for a moment then spoke:
"Since the first victim, Linda Chipo, disappeared and died eight months ago, when you check the cases next time, set the timeline within the past year.
Also, exclude the cases where the assassin has been caught and is already in prison. Mainly look into cases where the assassin was released within the year and is currently residing within a three-mile radius from Little Saint Phil Church."
"Alright."
Hearing Luo An's arrangement, Mona sighed, took a sip of bitter coffee, then slapped her cheeks, and the sound of rapid typing on the keyboard rang out again.
After a while, Reesi, carrying one large cardboard box, and another team member carrying two large cardboard boxes rushed back.
"Phew—"
They threw the cardboard boxes on the conference room floor, and Reesi and the team member let out a long sigh.
"Hard work."
Luo An poured a coffee for the two, then started to look through the papers in the boxes, which contained information about newlywed couples.
"Luo An, these three boxes contain records of newlywed couples from Little Saint Phil Church in the past two and a half years."
After taking a sip of coffee, Reesi sat down on a chair, her facial expression tense:
"Little Saint Phil Church welcomes newlyweds weekly. On busy days, they can host four pairs, and on slower days, still two pairs.
If you really want to check all the newlywed records from the past ten years, just forget about it. The ten people in our Investigation Team 5 can't handle it."
"That's right, that's right."
The team member next to her nodded continuously, put down his coffee cup, and said, "Just during our trip back and forth, Little Saint Phil Church hosted another newlywed couple."
Hearing this, Luo An immediately furrowed his eyebrows, kept silent for a while, then suddenly slapped his head, stood up, and shook the paper in his hand saying:
"No, we still have to check."
Seeing the disheartened look on Reesi and the team member's faces after hearing his words, Luo An shook his head, and said sternly:
"But we will focus on the records of newlywed couples from the past seven months and from the past two weeks."
"Why?"
The team member perked up hearing this, but Reesi asked confusedly:
"But you mentioned before, Mara Terry got married eight years ago, yet she died two weeks ago, this..."
