Let's Squander A Billion First!-Chapter 1620: Visitor from Beyond (Part 7)
The man quickly reached the window and looked down.
Not noticing anything unusual, he frowned and returned to the room, unable to determine if there was anyone inside without that tracking device.
It seemed there was only one, or else he would have called others up.
Chuzheng watched him pacing the room, making the already cramped space feel even smaller.
Chuzheng could only stand in the corner.
About five minutes later, the man finally gave up and left.
Chuzheng: "..."
The great one’s dignity was almost lost!
Chuzheng glanced at the item in her hand, and after a few seconds, noticed the green dot was not far from her...
The curtain suddenly lifted, and the man appeared at the door again.
Chuzheng: "..."
Seeing nothing unusual, the man truly left this time.
Chuzheng watched the green dot on the screen depart, moving farther and farther away.
What the hell is this high-tech?
Why can it track her?
And that person just now...
"Xiao Chu."
After Lei Ming and the others left, Lian Shan came up hurriedly, his anxiety didn’t seem fake.
Finding Chuzheng safe in the room, he sighed with relief: "Nothing happened just now, right?"
Those people seemed different from the previous guards, more aggressive, and their origin was unknown.
They came in to check IDs; Lei Ming was truly worried Chuzheng might get caught.
Now that everything’s fine, his heart settled completely.
"No problem."
Chuzheng’s tone was indifferent.
"Don’t worry, I’ll save money and get you an ID." Lei Ming patted his chest in assurance.
Chuzheng: "..."
If it wasn’t for you, the original owner wouldn’t have been in trouble; I almost believed you!
-
This inspection scared the nearby residents quite a bit, but Chuzheng wasn’t the only one without an ID.
Outside, people discussed those individuals, and some knowledgeable ones recognized them.
But none of this mattered to Chuzheng; the next day, she left some silver coins and departed the Lei family.
Chuzheng went to Brother Hui’s stall to find someone.
Although he set up a stall, it was clear he had no intention of doing business.
This unusual behavior made people nearby anxious.
Brother Hui came alive as soon as Chuzheng arrived.
"Miss Chuzheng."
"Do you know how to get to District 2?"
"District 2?"
Brother Hui was first startled, then scratched his head: "Your ID is fake, you can’t pass."
That ID might hold up to some scrutiny, but if used at the District 2 border, it would definitely be exposed.
The Underground City was divided into districts, but getting from District 3 to District 2 wasn’t hard as long as one’s ID was clean and healthy.
But the cost of living in District 2 wasn’t something most could afford.
Some people went and soon returned.
Others made a name there and never wanted to come back.
Chuzheng asked as calmly as possible: "Won’t money help?"
She couldn’t believe there wasn’t any smuggling!
A big boss like me has to smuggle!
It’s too much!
Brother Hui: "Uh... you could contact someone in the smuggling business, but the fees... are high."
Fees weren’t an issue. Chuzheng waved a hand: "You handle it, as soon as possible."
Brother Hui, having experienced Chuzheng’s generosity, immediately agreed: "Alright."
Brother Hui knew many people and quickly made contact.
The departure was set for midnight the following night.
Chuzheng hadn’t expected the smuggling route to be along an underground river.
District 2 was not where she thought it was, and was over twenty kilometers from District 3.
This massive Underground City wasn’t built overnight.
Chuzheng felt she needed to learn more about the Underground City’s history.
-
Chuzheng boarded a shabby, disguised boat with many people already on it.
These people were either young and ambitious, seeking to make a mark in District 2, or young, beautiful girls yearning for the clean and bright District 2.
Having given many silver coins, the boatman reserved the best spot for her—a small space shielded by a partition.
Afraid Chuzheng would be dissatisfied, Brother Hui seemed nervous.
But Chuzheng showed no reaction, sitting down as soon as she entered.
"When does the boat leave?"
"Midnight," Brother Hui said, "in ten minutes."
The boat always left on time because there were patrols along the route. They had to hit their spots precisely, wait for the patrol to pass, then continue. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Every minute had to be accounted for, or they’d be discovered.
"Let us on, please."
"No, you only have one ticket, only one can board."
Noise from outside filtered in, the boat owner’s scolding mingling with a woman’s pleas.
Brother Hui tactfully took a look outside.
A couple wanted to board but only had one ticket.
The boatman wouldn’t let them on, and they were pleading with him.
It was ticking toward midnight, and the boatman was getting impatient, calling for them to be thrown off.
If they delayed further, they wouldn’t be leaving today.
"No, don’t throw us off, please, be kind, let us board..."
The boatman frowned: "I’m running a business, not charity. Either one of you comes on, or neither."
He was also risking his head; there was no room for sympathy.
"Boatman." Brother Hui pulled the boatman aside: "Let them on."
The boatman recognized a big client, his demeanor softened: "I..."
Brother Hui handed him a pile of silver coins: "Is this enough?"
The boatman: "..."
"Alright, alright, today you’re lucky to meet a generous person, hurry up." The boatman called to the couple: "Quick, hurry up, don’t stand outside."
Brother Hui: "..."
Spending money feels good.
But it hurts too.
The couple supported each other as they boarded, envious gazes followed them.
They had scraped and saved just for a spot.
This couple got a spot for free...
"Wait..." The woman caught up with Brother Hui, who looked terrifying, making her step back. Cautiously, she thanked: "Thank you."
Brother Hui appeared fearsome but spoke kindly: "No need to thank me, thank my boss for her kindness."
"Uh..."
She hadn’t expected Brother Hui to have a boss.
Fidgeting with her clothes, she asked: "Could... I thank her in person?"
Brother Hui scratched his head: "Wait."
After talking with Chuzheng and getting her approval, he invited the woman inside.
In a somewhat rundown setting, a girl sat in a corner, her expression cool, as if sitting on a throne, radiating brilliance, elevating the entire surroundings.
The woman froze for a moment, then lowered her head in haste, bowing at a perfect 90 degrees: "Thank you."
[Congratulations to the young lady for receiving Thank-You Card ×1]
With a Thank-You Card in hand, Chuzheng felt much better.
