Chapter 100: The new house

As Roonie walked out of the house, Veyne relaxed on the sofa and closed his eyes.

He wasn’t sure how to feel about Roonie’s sudden change of heart.

Sure, he wanted Roonie inside the game, but from his interactions with him, he knew Roonie would not just randomly change his mind.

Something big might have happened, and he had a feeling this might not be related to the real world, but to the game itself.

The only big thing he could think of was the preparation for the big surge.

In his past life, many kingdoms started these kingdom-level events before the big surge, but he wasn’t sure if the Rowali Kingdom was one of them.

Back then, by this time, he was in a completely different kingdom—one much bigger than Rowali.

From what he remembered, it never had any unrest beforehand, which was why the big surge took so many by surprise.

But maybe Winged Monarch and the Rowali royal family were going to use some other method.

Veyne rubbed his forehead.

He knew that with Roonie in the game, the pressure on Kiyon was going to increase.

He stopped thinking about those things and looked around.

All four guards and Bea were just standing around, waiting for his command.

He turned and waved at them. "Why are you guys standing there for? Come sit here."

Bea was the first to walk toward him, with Casim and the others following behind.

From Roonie’s words, he knew that all these people were, in one way or another, connected to the mafia family.

He just smiled at them and said, "Now that we have to live under the same roof, how about we introduce ourselves? I’ll start."

He looked at everyone and said with a smile, "I’m Veyne Draven. A second-year finance student in the same college as Roonie."

The moment he said "Roonie," Veyne noticed the others frown slightly. Not caring, he continued, "Also, I’m a new player who just started playing the game. So you’ll see me spending most of my time inside it."

As Veyne finished his introduction, a silence followed.

The first to break it was the middle-aged man, Casim.

Casim nodded to him and said, "Sir, I’m Casim. From today onward, I’ll be responsible for securing this apartment with my team."

Following him, the other three gave brief responses.

The first to speak was the clean-shaven blond man. "Sir, I’m Jaxon. Part of the security group specialized in driving."

Next, the man with the mustache said, "Sir, I’m Ratim. Part of the security group, specialized in sniping."

The last was the youngest member, probably around Veyne’s age. "Sir, I’m Zayn. Part of the security group specialized in close to mid-range gunfights."

Veyne just nodded, not sure how to respond.

Sure, he had met a lot of killers in his past life, but none were trained to kill like these people.

He then turned to Bea. Not gonna lie, her looks really surprised him.

Even with no makeup, she looked like a model. But what surprised him most was that a woman like her was working as a maid.

Bea stared at him for a moment, then spoke. "I’m Bea Cobra, part of the second-generation descendants of the Cobra family, trained to serve the direct bloodline of the Cobra leader."

Veyne stared at her, eyes wide.

Now he realized why Roonie’s guard was concerned. She was a distant descendant of the Cobra family.

She continued staring at him with that hidden anger and said, "I’m well-versed in cleaning, cooking, close combat, medicine, and a few other regular skills. From now on, I’ll manage the things inside the house."

She stood up and asked, "I’m going to take a side room on the first floor. Is that okay?"

Veyne just nodded. "Sure."

She turned around, picked up his bag and suitcase, and walked ahead, saying, "I’ll place your stuff inside your room."

With that, she walked away without waiting for his answer.

Veyne couldn’t help but sigh.

Even Casim and the other guards stood up. "Sir, rest assured, we’ll make sure to guard your surroundings." Saying that, he and the other guards walked away, leaving him alone.

Veyne just sighed.

It wasn’t like he didn’t understand their frustration.

Those guys likely came intending to protect Roonie, but instead, they had to serve a nobody.

Well, it didn’t matter.

As long as they did their job, he didn’t care.

As for their behavior, he could overlook it. Now that he finally had some alone time, he decided to walk around this new house.

Similar to what he had seen before, the ground floor had a massive living room with a sofa in the center.

Just in front of the sofa was a big screen TV mounted on the wall.

There was a grand staircase at the bottom left corner that led to the next floor.

Behind the staircase was a gigantic kitchen, separate from the living area. On the right side, there was a large one-bedroom suite with an extra washroom next to it.

As he walked into the bedroom suite, he saw that there were two beds there, along with an attached bathroom. It had all the basic facilities. It was perfect for two of the guards to stay in.

He walked up to the second floor. Well, maybe this should be the first floor.

The thing was, the place he used to live considered the ground floor as the first floor.

They had no concept of the ground floor.

It might be wrong, but he was used to that, so he decided to go with "second floor."

As he walked up the staircase to the second floor, he saw a small corridor.

On the opposite end was the master bedroom, with two side rooms on the left and right of the corridor.

He saw that the door to the master room was slightly open, likely because Bea was arranging his stuff in there.

Also, the room on the left side of the corridor had a sign on the door that read, "Do not open."

Kind of interesting action. He decided to just check the right room.

Its interior was similar to the room on the bottom floor, though this one had just a single bed this time.

He could assign this room, maybe, to Casim.

Next, he decided to walk to the top floor.

Unlike before, he noticed there was already a wall in the middle dividing the floor into two parts.

The area next to the staircase was full of gym equipment, from basic dumbbells to a couple of machines.

The other part on the opposite end was completely empty, with just a big mat on wooden flooring.

It was the perfect size to give him ample space to jump around.

Lastly, there were stairs leading to the terrace.

As he walked up the stairs, he was surprised to find a small storage room at the back of the terrace.

It hadn’t been there when he checked at night. It was likely built for security purposes, maybe.

The roof was perfect for enjoying a sunbath, but what interested him was the back side.

From the roof, he could see a massive pool below.

It was kind of super high, but the placement of the pool was perfect for him to dive.

Even though he had the urge to jump down, he controlled himself and backed away from the edge.

As Veyne moved around, checking everything, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of emptiness inside his heart.

In his past life, he had desperately wanted to have his own house, but as time went on, stuff like that just lost its meaning for him.

Even now, all he cared about in this house was the training room and the swimming pool at the back.

There just wasn’t that lingering attachment he should have felt toward his home.

He wasn’t sure if that was normal or if something was really wrong with him.

Not thinking too much, he walked back to the middle floor.

The door to the master room was already closed. Bea had likely already finished arranging the room.

As he walked into the room, the first thing he noticed was a massive silver gaming pod shining in the center of the room.

His eyes shone with excitement as he moved around the gaming pod, looking at it from all angles.

It was one of those early super-synchronization gaming pods that peaked mental synchronization at 97%.

That was much higher than his old gaming pod and headset.

Unlike the cheap gaming pod he had in his office, this one had a metal door with thick glass instead of flimsy plastic.

He also noticed it had an extra slot to connect his phone to the gaming pod. This would allow him to receive notifications in the game if someone called him while he was inside.

He also noticed a liquid pouch connected inside the pod. It was the latest nutrition supply system that was going to be a revolution in the future.

Though the current version was still very rudimentary, it would provide nutrition to his body for around ten hours inside the game.

It was a big game-changer for pros to maintain their bodies without compromising their game time.

Veyne shut the room door and jumped inside the gaming pod.

It was time to see why there was so much hype about these high-end gaming pods.

Soon, a green light scanned his entire body as a notification popped up in front of him.
