Chapter 98: The ripples around

Inside a forest littered with player corpses, both Danish and Luka held Rodium, while Elish slowly pulled at his nail.

Rodium screamed his lungs out. "Aahhh, please stop... no more?"

Not caring, Elish just grabbed Rodium’s two fingers and, in the next moment, snapped them back.

Before Rodium could scream, Luka grabbed his jaws and forced them shut.

Rodium could only flail his legs in pain while tears flowed down his face.

Elish grabbed Rodium’s hair and stared into his eyes. "Where is the egg?"

Rodium begged her, "I already told you guys. It’s with Cion. We gave him the egg."

Elish slapped him hard.

Paat!

It was so strong that it disoriented Rodium.

She kicked his face and shouted, "Bastard, don’t take us for fools. Tell me, where are the other eggs?"

Rhodium just wept, "Please, I’m sorry. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Please, no more."

He glanced at the dead bodies of all his team members in misery.

Elish cursed and slammed her leg on Rodium’s head. "Fck, this bastard knew nothing."

Bam!

The power behind the attack burst Rodium’s head into pieces, killing him on the spot.

Danish asked Luka, "Who’s next?"

At this, Luka pulled out a list from his inventory.

He crossed out Rodium.

Out of the 7 members on the list, Rodium was the fourth one he had crossed out.

He pointed to Lucami. "Someone spotted this woman in South City. From the information, she’s just part of a small team in the next city."

Elish nodded. "OK, let’s go. We have to recover that egg as soon as possible."

The other two nodded as all four of them started running, not bothering to collect any of the loot from Rodium and his teammates.

...

Outside the game, a medium-built man got out of his gaming pod while screaming in pain.

He dropped to the ground, clutching his hand in phantom pain.

It took him a long time to recover before he noticed a bunch of missed calls and messages.

He opened his team chat and saw everyone in dread.

Most of his teammates were so traumatized that some even left the group, typing that they quit.

The team chat, once filled with memes everyone laughed about, had gone silent.

Many blamed him for this tragedy before leaving the chat.

Only his five closest friends were left in the group, but even they were quiet.

It was clear they also needed rest.

The guy clenched his fist and threw his phone on the ground in frustration. "Fck."

But no matter how frustrated he was, he knew that in front of those three, he was completely helpless.

He just lay there, replaying today’s incident in his mind, etching each and every moment in his memory.

A lot of emotions ran through his head, but the two most prominent were hopelessness and fear.

With the emotions came the realization that this might be the end of his dream to run the Machinery Group.

It only pushed him further into depression as he stared blankly at the ceiling.

...

While someone was crushed inside the game, Veyne leisurely walked back to the dorm.

He spent the rest of the evening packing his stuff, leaving only the bare basics.

Just enough clothes so he could return to the dorm from time to time.

He had received a message from Roonie saying the house was ready to move into.

He looked at the headset but shook his head and decided to sleep early today.

After that suicidal method, he needed some mental rest, and there was no better remedy than sleep.

He jumped on his bed, and a few moments later, he was snoring, already lost in dreamland.

...

At the same time, inside the Dicaso Bar, Roonie looked at two guild reports—one submitted by Zack and the other by his guard.

He stared at the reports for a long time.

In both, he saw new messes created by guild members, but there was something different.

For the first time in a long while, the guild had earned more than it had spent, and there was just one player responsible for it.

It was good, but then he turned to another stack of papers containing information regarding his sibling’s guilds, and he frowned.

Both had begun to call all their guild forces into the cities they controlled.

It was like they were preparing for something big.

Roonie remembered last night’s talk about the big transition that was going to happen in the guild.

The more he thought about it, the more he rubbed his forehead.

All these signs indicated that his guild might have to defend itself in the future.

Heck, even the main guild had started gathering all its scattered members back to the cities.

It was clear that whatever was coming had even the main guild on edge.

He recalled last night’s conversation with Veyne about the big moment from the guilds.

If all of that was true, then he knew it would be impossible for Kiyon to hold the city command for much longer.

He glanced at the guild recruitment and saw that barely a couple of players were not joining the guild; it was nothing compared to his sibling guilds.

Roonie stared at the guild report for a long time.

Now that it had come to this, he asked his guard, "Hey, what do you think? Should I play this game?"

The two of them stared at him with wide eyes.

Others might not know, but they knew why their boss wasn’t joining the game.

Still, it was never their place to decide for their boss, so they just bowed. "Boss, you should do what you see fit."

Roonie just rolled his eyes, expecting a similar response.

The only problem was, even if he joined the guild, it wouldn’t make that much of a difference.

After running Kiyon for a long time, he understood at least this much that being good in the game required a whole different set of skills and mindset.

He would be just another subpar player, but maybe—he glanced at his guards.

If he took most of his guards and maids into the game, that would add a dozen loyal players to the guild.

Also, with how trained they were, they would at least be decent in skill.

If he was lucky, some of them might even have hidden talent in the game.’It’s better than nothing... but is this my only option?’

Roonie thought to himself, knowing that once he entered the game, he’d be tied to it like his other siblings.

Whereas by staying out, he could still attract those rare few who opposed the game.

Roonie threw the paper away and picked up the cold beer can.

As the cool beer entered his throat, he couldn’t help but smirk at his condition.

As a direct descendant of Cobra, his condition was much worse compared to even his cousins, who were at least enjoying their lives as part of the main guild.

At that moment, he heard his phone buzzing. He picked it up and saw a single message from that bitch.

[Your time is up! I hope you are prepared for what’s coming.]

Roonie just stared at the phone and started laughing. "Haha... haha."

He got up and called to his guards, "Come, guys."

One guard asked, "Where to, sir?"

Roonie pointed north. "To the main house. I need a new maid."

They just nodded and led Roonie out of the disco bar.

The three of them got into a big 4-seater as one of the guards started to drive.

While chugging down one beer bottle after another, Roonie made up his mind to go all out.

He didn’t want to lose everything and then be at others’ mercy.

If he was going down, then he would see it to the end.

For that, if he had to join the game, then so be it.

He decided to burn all the boats, to not to even think about backing out.

Either he would fall out with the guild or emerge with them.

It was time for him to move out of the shadows and take command of his life back into his own hands.

Even with so much alcohol in his system, his eyes had this new clarity. He didn’t just drink wine, but along the way, he formulated a plan on the stuff he had to do inside the game.

He even called a few of his close connections, who were already big in the game, to tell him about the nuances.

Before entering, he wanted to have a solid grasp on what and how he had to do things.

Not only that, he even planned to arrange some classes for his other bodyguards and maids to prepare them for the game.

He knew this would reveal his intentions to others, but it’s not like he could hide for long.

So it was better to announce his intentions beforehand.

The night was long for Roonie, as he finally decided to break out of his cocoon. It was time to show others who they were dealing with.
