The Snow Ape King’s health was down to 400,000/45,000,000—less than one percent remaining.

On the battlefield, forty to fifty thousand ranged players remained. At this rate, another ten waves of concentrated fire would be enough to bring it down.

Ethan was already prepared. The moment the Snow Ape King collapsed, he would rush in for the loot.

Suddenly, a powerful magical disturbance swept across the battlefield—different from the chaotic spells being cast left and right.

Despite the sheer number of players slinging magic, this wave of energy overshadowed them all.

Ethan’s body tensed, and he instinctively retreated about ten meters, his eyes darting toward the source of the disturbance.

About a hundred meters to his left, a group of seven or eight people stood together. Ethan guessed they were the guild leaders or high-ranking officers overseeing the battle.

The overwhelming magical energy emanated from a mage dressed in a flowing, blue robe. He was a strikingly handsome man, but what caught Ethan’s attention was the scroll in his hand, glowing with a radiant, iridescent light.

Ethan’s eyes narrowed. ’A Divine-tier scroll? What’s he planning?’

The mage’s target was clearly the Snow Ape King, whose health was now below 200,000. Why use a Divine-tier scroll now, when the boss is almost dead? That doesn’t make sense. Even if he uses it to instantly kill the boss, it’s not worth the cost.

In Ethereal, scrolls were incredibly rare items. Even the lowest-tier scrolls were worth thousands of gold coins. But a moment later, Ethan realized what the mage was up to.

The scroll in the mage’s hand flashed brightly before shooting into the air, hovering about twenty meters above the Snow Ape King. A beam of multicolored light descended, enveloping the boss completely.

To Ethan’s astonishment, the Snow Ape King’s health, which had been steadily dropping under the players’ attacks, began to rise instead.

Its health, which had been down to 90,000, quickly climbed back to 450,000. However, the percentage of its health remained the same because its total health pool had also increased.

Now, the Snow Ape King’s health read: 450,000 / 225,000,000.

Ethan’s mind raced as he recognized the scroll’s effect. This must be a [Divine-Tier Genetic Ascension] Scroll!

The scroll had not only restored the boss’s health but also elevated its rank to Divine-tier. The Snow Ape King’s maximum health had quintupled, a clear sign of its newfound power.

Ethan was stunned. I didn’t expect someone in Blackridge to have gotten their hands on such a scroll. However, he guessed that the scroll had a level cap of 45, which was why they had chosen the Snow Ape King as their target. If the scroll could be used on higher-level bosses, they would have undoubtedly gone after something more powerful.

No wonder so many guilds are collaborating and guarding this area so tightly, Ethan thought.

In Ethereal, there were no loot rights for world boss drops. Once an item hit the ground, anyone could pick it up. This mechanic made the game feel more realistic and added an extra layer of excitement—and danger, to open-world encounters.

It also emphasized the importance of teamwork, as any item picked up by a team member would automatically go to the team leader’s inventory for distribution.

Of course, this system had its flaws. Greedy players sometimes left their teams to try and snatch loot for themselves. However, the game had safeguards in place: players who left a team couldn’t pick up items for five minutes, and the team leader would receive a notification, allowing them to quickly rally the group to eliminate the traitor.

Over time, such incidents became rare, as players realized that betraying their team not only meant losing out on loot but also facing relentless.

As for random players trying to steal the loot, if they succeeded, it only meant your team was too weak. In Ethereal, opportunities belonged to those with the skill to seize them.

Ethan watched the scene unfold, thinking, I have to admit, their strategy is pretty clever. First, they weakened the boss to low health, then used the scroll to elevate its rank. Even though the boss’s health increased, it was still easier than fighting a full-health Divine-tier boss from scratch.

A moment later, his eyes gleamed with anticipation. What kind of loot will a level 45 Divine-tier boss drop? Since he’d stumbled upon this opportunity, he wasn’t about to leave empty-handed.

As the ranged players unleashed wave after wave of instant-cast spells, the Divine Snow Ape King’s health bar flickered with a flurry of "-1!" damage numbers, falling like snowflakes.

However, the players were also taking heavy casualties. After ascending to Divine-tier, the Snow Ape King had gained two new skills.

The first was Earthquake Wave, a mid-to-long-range ability. The boss slammed its fists into the ground, causing a line of jagged spikes to erupt in a straight path, impaling anyone in its way.

The second was Snowball Barrage, a long-range area-of-effect attack. A single snowball could instantly kill a dozen or more ranged players.

But the guilds in Blackridge had come prepared. With so many collaborating guilds and the boss’s spawn point located near a resurrection point, players could run back to the fight in just over a minute after dying. Despite the constant casualties, an endless stream of players kept returning to the battlefield.

After another ten minutes, the Snow Ape King’s health finally dropped to 30,000 / 225,000,000.

Ethan had already infiltrated the inner circle. The players, spread out to avoid the boss’s attacks, had left plenty of gaps for him to slip through unnoticed.

With a final roar, the Snow Ape King collapsed, its massive body hitting the ground with a thunderous crash. A shower of loot burst from its corpse, scattering across the snow.

Surprisingly, no one rushed forward to grab the items. Ethan grinned to himself. Perfect. Still in stealth, he darted toward the boss’s body, his eyes locked on a glowing, colourful item. He didn’t know what it was, but its radiant hue clearly marked it as Divine-tier.

"All Priests, cast Radiant Illumination!" a voice shouted from the distance.

Ethan’s heart sank. These guys are sharp—way smarter than the idiots in Blade Syndicate. They knew to flood the loot area with light to reveal any stealthy thieves. Gritting his teeth, Ethan pushed forward even faster, determined to reach the item before it was too late.

Buzz…

Just as Ethan was within two meters of the item, beams of radiant light descended from above, exposing his stealth form.

"It’s a Druid! Take him down! Archers, Gunners, mark him! Don’t let him go back into stealth!"

Ethan’s sudden appearance sent the guilds into a frenzy. But he didn’t hesitate. With a swift motion, he grabbed the glowing, multicolored item and stuffed it into his inventory. His first instinct was to run, but as he turned, his eyes caught sight of something else—a treasure chest lying nearby.

The sky was already filled with incoming spells. Ethan knew that even in Bear Form, he wouldn’t survive the barrage of attacks. He calculated the time it would take for the spells to land. If I run now, I might make it…

But that chest… it was a Divine-tier boss’s treasure chest!

’Screw it. I’m going for it.’
