Level up is hard? I can Directly Purchase infinite Levels!-Chapter 114: A Shield of Flesh
The runic light barrier of the ruined spire continued to flicker.
"They have at least ten Master-level Protectors behind them, and we can’t all escape," the young man named Thompson said, his gaze fixed on the alien races’ geniuses outside. His expression was serious but not panicked.
He turned to the young man beside him and a girl.
"Borg, you’ll clear the path. Protect Joanna and the others as they break through. The rest of us will stay behind to cover," Thompson ordered.
"No! I’ll stay behind to cover!" the girl named Joanna cried, her eyes wide as she glared at Thompson.
"Follow the discipline, don’t be impulsive!" Thompson furrowed his brows. "They’re prepared. Whether we can escape is still uncertain."
"I have the Blood Knight Armor, which can withstand Master-level attacks. I might be able to buy us a sliver of hope—if I can escape, one of us may get out!" Joanna said desperately.
Thompson was a recognized super genius within his rank. With his rank at Expert Level 9 and the Blood Knight Armor, he even had the strength to momentarily battle against a Master-level powerhouse.
"Joanna, the texts we’ve found here are part of the core inheritance of an ancient force. They are crucial to the human race," Thompson explained, his voice serious. "They must be delivered to your people. That’s our top priority."
Borg also added, his tone firm, "The human race lacks structured skill resources, especially high-level combat technique records. Most of them were hard-won from alien races. The value of these ancient texts is immeasurable. We can’t let this knowledge be lost."
In this harsh era, sometimes the survival of the individual was less significant than the strength of the entire race. The fate of humanity carried too much weight; every bit of power accumulated meant more hope for survival. The individual sacrifice seemed insignificant in comparison.
The others nodded silently, their expressions resolute.
"So you just want me to live... do you really think I can make it?" Joanna’s voice choked with emotion.
Despite her usual strength, she couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with tears at that moment.
"Don’t look back. Just keep running," Thompson urged with a calm smile, as though resigned to death.
"We’ll handle the rest!" Borg shouted with a fiery aura.
Borg, releasing his full Expert Level 8 energy, was the first to charge through the gap in the runic barrier. His fiery rain slammed down like a torrential storm towards Lex of the Thunderclan!
"Brothers, kill!" Borg shouted, leading the charge as ten other human geniuses followed, fighting to the death.
Joanna was at the center of the group, protected by them. She held back her tears and raced towards the opening Borg had cleared.
"They’re trying to stop us!" someone shouted.
"Not good! Stop that girl!" Stonekin’s Andy yelled.
More than thirty alien race geniuses surged forward to intercept them.
Thompson stepped forward, fully encased in a set of dark red-glowing full-body armor. This was the Blood Knight Armor!
The armor covered him completely, and two blood-colored high-frequency blades extended from his back. He gripped them tightly, transforming into a blood-red shadow as he tore through the enemy ranks.
With a single swing of his blade, he cut down an alien genius who had rushed to the front!
"It’s the Blood Knight Armor!" Rob, Andy, and Lex’s expressions changed as they recognized it. They were familiar with this special combat mech developed by the human race.
The Master-level Protectors behind them saw this and stopped watching, their auras locking onto Thompson, preparing to strike at any moment.
But Thompson was fearless, meeting them head-on!
"Go!" Borg bellowed. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Ignoring his own injuries, Borg cleaved through the two alien geniuses blocking their path, clearing a way for Joanna.
Joanna, no longer hesitating, transformed into a streak of light, darting out of the encirclement.
Seven or eight alien race geniuses immediately gave chase, unwilling to let anyone escape.
A Stonekin Master-level Protector coldly sneered and sent a palm strike flying through the air.
"Alien races scum!" Borg roared, his eyes filled with fury.
With a howl, he reversed the energy core inside him, unleashing a destructive annihilation force that gathered around him. Then—
Boom!
The deafening sound of an explosion reverberated through the ruins!
A second, a third explosion followed in quick succession...
"Damn alien races!" Borg spat. "Die together!"
The angry curses echoed, followed by more self-detonations that rang out above the ruins. They had built their final shield with their lives.
Joanna’s face was already drenched in tears, but she dared not look back. Pushing herself to the limit, she fled, carrying the hope that was bought with the lives of her comrades.
"Damn ants! Don’t hold back, kill them first!" Andy shouted, his face twisted with rage as he was thrown off balance by the recent explosion.
The Stonekin Master-level Protector frowned as he watched.
Although they were enemies, witnessing these young humans sacrifice themselves without hesitation for their comrades struck a chord deep inside him. Their lives were only just beginning, yet they had no qualms about giving them up for others. This spirit of selflessness sent a chill through him.
No wonder the seventeen royal families and their powerful allies hadn’t been able to completely wipe out this seemingly weak race.
But it was precisely because of this that his killing intent grew even stronger. If such a race was not fully eradicated, their next generation would only become more terrifying in their desperation.
...
The remaining surviving human geniuses fought to the death, trying to get as many of their comrades to safety as possible.
Thompson, using the immense defensive power granted by the Blood Knight Armor, fought off a dozen alien race geniuses with his Expert Level 9 rank. Even Lex and Rob, both Expert Level 9 geniuses, were unable to pose a fatal threat to him with their numerical advantage.
A Master-level Protector directly intervened. He summoned a massive Godform and struck Thompson, sending him flying.
Thompson’s mech immediately deployed eight high-strength alloy cables, which plunged deep into the ground, halting his retreat.
He swung his blood-red blades, releasing a torrent of sword energy that cut through the enemy lines again, forcing them back.
"Go...!" Thompson shouted at the few remaining comrades preparing to self-detonate.
"Heh, you think they’ll make it?" Andy sneered as he led the charge.
"Even if they can’t escape, we’ll take you all to hell with us!" a human genius cried, his eyes filled with madness as he charged toward Andy.
"You think I’ll give you the chance to self-destruct?" Andy smirked, already prepared. He unleashed his talent ability, summoning several streams of yellow energy sand to bind the human genius’s legs, trapping him in place.
Andy himself quickly retreated.
But just then, a gigantic hand appeared seemingly from nowhere and grabbed Andy.
The next moment, a blood-red figure like a falling meteor crashed behind Andy, transforming into a tall man clad in human military gear.
With a single hand, he gripped Andy’s head, his fingers sinking in like steel claws!
"Ahhh—!!"
Andy screamed in agony as he was hoisted into the air like a chicken.
Raine, with a cold gaze, held him up and locked eyes with the Master-level Protector who had been about to strike at Thompson. In the blink of an eye, he shot forward like lightning!
This sudden turn of events caused the entire battlefield to freeze for a moment!
